In Mediterranean countries they actually use olive oil even for deep frying, but yes, you have to watch the temperature. Which they do. Keep it at around 200C (~400F), that will be fine even for deep frying. Not sure how high wok temperatures go though.

I believe what you are talking about is extra virgin olive oil. Olive oil have have high smoke point but extra virgin isn’t.
