The Swap Shop is now a shell of its old self.

Still nice to visit from time to time. Affordable produce if nothing else!

Not yet. The similar, but smaller flea market in Opa-Locka closed down not too long ago, however. I hope the swap shop sticks around a bit longer!

I can see how the vendor booths would be having a disappointing day. Most of the customers that day seemed to be enjoying the produce area, which also offers food options while taking in live music.

Is the movie theater closed for ever? Website said it was being remodeled, but and it’s been about a year…

I'm not seeing any signs of the screens being torn down, but I'm also not seeing signs of a year's worth of remodeling, so......

Word is there's a lady who inherited most everything, all of the very high-end cars are gone to storage or sold. My guess, they're milking the place until they sell it as development land. I walked thru there last year and there were buckets catching water from roof leaks.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right. South Florida is undergoing massive development as more and more people move in. I understand that there’s money to be made, but so many cool gems have been demolished for yet another shopping center or condo building. Grand Prix/Boomers was a kickass arcade and go-kart track. Now it’s Dania Pointe, an outdoor shopping mall like any other. Small beach motels in Hollywood and Aventura are continuing to fall victim to high rise condos. Who remembers the Hawaiian Isles Motel?!
