Very interesting and informative! Great podcast!
On finding answers in the temple: it is truly amazing how many really useful answers your subconscious mind can deliver to you while you are in a state of slumber.
#Freemasonry #Kabbalah
Rebecca - I wish I could send you a pic of the view from my front porch. If a temple was constructed across the street, it would cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars in property value. I hate this so much for Fairview 😭😭😭
As a missionary in Africa back in the day, there was also the issue of dowries that needed to be paid before a couple could get married. In many circumstances the dowry was set so high that the couples were living together and raising a family without being married. I know of several families that were permitted to be baptized under such circumstances.
Thanks, RFM, for explaining why Chad and Lori's sentences weren't the same.
Regarding hymns. I’d bet a few bucks that the hymn that talks about Kolob will be banished.
And heavenly Mother. Would be shocked to see that stay.
And Masonry...
The government of Mozambique just approved Starlink Internet in the country, so it won’t be long before that growth slows/declines.
The thing that’s so frustrating about these temples is that many of the places aren’t against a temple, they just want the church to respect the zoning/building laws. It’s so frustrating.
I think the church is using it as a way to anger members into thinking they are persecuted (that don’t necessarily live where the temples are being built) so that they can get more loyalty.
Also, I agree with RFM. It’s all about MONEY. Always is.
RFM, could you not hold back so much? ;) love this trio!
Betcha they clean up the Come Thou Font lyrics. (Prone to wander, lord I fear it, prone to leave the god I love...)
Best part of starting the week is this show
Love you guys
Primary pianist and choir director were my 2 favorite callings. I have also been Primary pianist since I was 12.
I love the idea to include at least one Veggie Tales song RFM! 😂
I heard that one of the church's hymn is called "Highway to Outer Darkness ". It is Rusty's favorite one to sing 😅
I hope it's four lanes so there's no traffic jams
Wouldn’t it be weird if a huge flock of seagulls came swooping in and built another couple hundred feet onto the steeple? Jonathan Livingston Steeple 😂🤣😂
Love this new song:
Poly, poly, poly
Po-lyg-amy
Get several Brides
and it's not bigamy!
So...basically...the Church is treating local members the way that parents get toddlers to bear their "testimonies" in F&T meetings. "I know dat...what mommy?...oh...I know dat steepows are twue and...and...[sound of whispering]...okay...and a steepow must be vewy, vewy tall or Jesus will be sad. namajesnuscryest amen."
Tall steeples are a Catholic doctrine, aren't they?
The very best temple experiences I've had were in the "small" Memphis temple.
If I never hear the name Chad Daybel or Lori Valo again it will be too soon!
Hey! Never-Mo here, and pretty surprised by these hymns changing. I can see why there are people splitting off from the LDS church when it begins to look like Protestantism and no longer what really set it apart as the "One True Church".
I do enjoy the tune of most these songs being added- while growing up Protestant, but really would be confused to hear LDS sing them. Some of the Protestant hymns previously in the hymnal were meant for the temple endowment, before the priest was removed, and used ultimately by the Satan character- yet now more of those Protestant songs join the hymnal as ones to be encouraged by? Although I do not believe, I can see why some really think the LDS church has been deceived by Satan and fallen into apostacy. Devout believers should join the Community of Christ where integrity still remains in my opinion. All the changes the main church has done to things lately are confusing, and frankly "To me, it is a mass of confusion."
38:34 we played the hymn game using the phrase “in the bathtub” For example song “See The Mighty Priesthood Gathered… In the bathtub” 😂 “Rise Up O Men of God… In the bathtub”
I love Bill Reel and RFM's sense of humour
On doctrinally problematic hymnes: the church has more tools available to it than you take into account. You may recall when the church included "How Great Thou Art" in the hymnal. They boldly changed the words! "All the works Thy hands have made" became "All the worlds..." Now we don't get worlds, will they change it back?
They don't have to remove "Oh My Father" to neuter it. For example, "Tells me I've a mother there" can easily become "Tells me I've a family there." And then just end the song there.
"Praise to the Man" can become "Praise to the Lamb" and now become Christ-centered.
Of course, they've changed things before. I'm old enough to still sing "You who unto Jesus" instead of "Who unto the Savior."
Our game was to put "on the toilet" after each hymn name.
Rejoice! A Glorious Sound is Heard on the Toilet...classic.
I can tell you that in the prison system RFM is exactly right! I worked in prison corrections in WA state for 20 years and it is unsafe for the officers of these things are not in place
RFM is giving me Frasier vibes tonight. I mean that in the best way possible.
My favorite sitcom and sitcom character. Same vibes!
The death penalty can cost the state more than life because of the long appeal process.
On changing the hymns, you know it’s about time I was worried they were going to run out of useless things to do with their time🙄🙄
Are they going to remove the Hymn "If you Could Hie to Kolob" from the Church hymnbook? Isn't it pretty much banned from being sung in church already?
I bet a sing will be added "An Ode to Prophet Nelson"
Using the tune of the ode to joy.
When I lived in SLC, I remember hearing a news story about a gospel choir convention being held nearby. This was weird because UT and gospel music doesn't exactly mesh. The faces of disdain from the news anchors after the story spoke volumes about how they felt about it. I wonder how they will feel about this new contemporary Christian vibe. EDIT: The new fun Halloween songs can be about coffee and tea
There was definitely new evidence like phone calls and Tylee’s DNA on Chad’s pickaxe. In my opinion, after following both cases, Chad was the puppet master of it all. I think he may have even been the one who killed Tylee.
I agree. I think he killed Tylee. And it was different than Lori's case.
I think he killed her too 😭
The "shot a raccoon" story he texted to his wife may have been a cover story in case that was heard by someone.
44:33 I taught the primary kids a song called “My Own Sacred Grove” by Angie Killian. it’s really pretty and I would expect it to be included in the new children’s songs.
It happens to be the last song I could stomach teaching the kids. Or should I say, I couldn’t stomach teaching the kids these songs that bind the kids to the church anymore and had to switch to only teaching songs about nature until I finally asked to be released.
But look up my own sacred grove. It’s pretty.
Also “The Miracle” by Shawna Edwards
Africa is not a country, it's a continent that contains 54 countries, such as Mozambique, which was mentioned in the first half of the segment. I know it wasn't the main point of the episode, but it's a pretty cringe-y couple of minutes.
38:22 We always went with "...in the bathtub."
Same! In the bathtub! So funny and so scandalous!
I think the reason there wasn't 40 days between conviction and sentencing was to do with fact there'd already been this process after Lori's conviction, so the relevant information was already available and had been gone through...
Is "Follow The Prophet" still going to be in there? Now they can sing it in Sacrament Meeting since it's all one book.
Where’s the link for the McIney Tx city council meeting?
The headline, I'm like what songs did they remove, what's most embarrassing. Then I'm like, probably the one by my ancestor: say what is truth.
Will they keep “If you could hie to Kolob” ?
Regarding the temples: I would think that a true prophet of an all-knowing God could foresee that a given location would be problematic, and plan to put his temples somewhere else. And also get the location right the first time (cough Prosper Texas cough).
All this hubbub just confirms to me that RMN is not a prophet of any God that I care to worship.
LDS ZZtop!
“Filet-o-fish” OMG Bill 😂😂😂
The LDS Church in the Philippines is probably getting stronger as you said…and recently, they’ve started raising their public profile. Part of it was having an apostle and the Tabernacle Choir simultaneously visit, and a relatively well publicized two-night show where one of the featured singers is a Filipina American LDS member who was signed to a major label here a year ago.
Prior offer no mitigation for Chad
Africa is a continent composed of many, many countries
Did I miss something? RF refers to John Delin as if he is gone. Is he?
I watch both cases for oJ and Chad and Lori. We discovered even more depravity
Do you think Chad also wanted the continuance because he saw a chance to throw Lori under the bus? Do you think Chad encouraged Lori to refuse her continuance for the same reason?
Covenants and honoring or heritage in the temple should be free and in small, clean spaces. Homeless shelters, homes for single moms, safe places for abuse victims, should be large and honored
Africa is not a country
Bill said the steeple hight thing first. Not that it's a competition, just sayin.
Ha! I love Bill letting people know, in all seriousness, that McDonald's is the one with the fillet-o-fish
Bobby Darin Covenant Path Taakin a bath...
And Chad’s attorney did not even have any dna testing done afterall
Bill, Africa is a CONTINENT not a country… apart from this lamentable biased slip, great show.
I was aware of that. I just slipped up.
I think at one point in the show I said continent and then goofed up
One unified hymn book for all languages and nations? That's impractical and problematic.
I am familiar with the 1985 hymnal in English, French and Spanish. The English version includes "America the Beautiful", "My Country 'Tis of Thee", "The Star Spangled Banner", and "God Save the King." The French one includes The Marseilles. And several French Christmas carols. The Spanish has an Evan Stephens hymn that is no longer sung in the English church and can no longer be found in the English hymnal.
How will these sorts of things be handled if it is a one-size-fits-all world?
I thought a piano was a sringed instrument?!
Technically a piano is a percussive instrument with strings.
But they have always allowed violins or cellos as well, string instruments with a bow vs a pick or your fingers.
Sorry, but as much as I love this show, I've got a pet peeve here! Bill manages to perpetuate a misconception about Africa even as he is trying to dispel another by repeatedly referring to it as a "country" rather than as a "continent". He mentions having a conversation with someone from "Africa", but she doesn't seem to come from any particular country. We wouldn't think of doing that when talking about people from France, Argentina, Japan, or the United States. Africa isn't some amorphous blob. It's a collection of different countries, each of which is unique. If we respect people from other continents to refer to the individual countries, we should afford Africans the same degree of respect.
Africa is a developing country? Africa is over 50 countries.
btw you could actually give some artists the 25-50 bucks you throw constantly at the ai companies for the pictures, they'd need it. plus the look is really getting old and cringy... there must be some way where the money doesn't get completely wasted
Ask ensign peaks..they care.about young artists or anyone??
My neighbor had a chicken salad sandwich for lunch
