    Scoey sure looked good in yellow!! Really a fun episode!! Patti Duke resembled Fannie here, her hair and outfit!

    Gene was so funny with the technical problems! I saw one episode where someone on the panel had their microphone lose a screw and Gene got a screwdriver and fixed it during the show! He was the best game show host ever.

      Well he had the sensibility to realize that the show, even in the 70's as we have to think about the general mentality of those days, was not a methodical brick-by-brick and strictly organized appearance as many other shows were and still are.
      He seen the humour and the farces of the whole thing and his natural, cool, calm and suave activity enabled him to get everyone to carry on as regular people and it makes great television. You can embarrass yourself here and not feel bad

    Interesting factoid, the "Governor" that they mention for the Prisoner question who isn't married back in 1975, is the same Governor of California now. Jerry Brown was governor from 1975-1983 and has been governor again since 2011. :)

    I'm always amazed and saddened to see how people in those years couldn't even manage to down their cigarettes long enough to do a television show. Times have changed....and much for the better in that regard. But the great old TV shows are gone too.

    • @sydIRISH
      @sydIRISH 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Agree on the cigarettes, disagree on times being better. Political correctness has ruined this country. People said what they felt back then, and if it offended others...they got the fuck over it. People are weak as hell these days. Always whining about something offending them. Life is hard. Deal with it. They did back then, and managed to have plenty of good times. We are also a lot dumber these days as well...thanks "smart devices". This show was way before my time, but I like old school everything, movies, music, guitars, music gear, cars etc. Because they just don't make them like that anymore, I will take the 60's-70's over the 2000's any day everyday and 6 times on Sunday.

    You know, I watched quite afew shows with Scoey on them. And their right, I think he's only gotten the right answer about twice now. I guess it would help if he wasn't so blocked up during the whole week. But at the same time, I realize that the other stars are too along with Gene....especially Brett. But I guess Her & Charles have had a whole season to get used to it. And what about Patti Deutsch's answers? She doesn't do any better as far as getting the right one either.

    I love this great show and laugh at it a lot. But the more I see it, the more I think that Gene's cutesy banter with the stars (particularly Brett) needed to be dialed back just a little in favor of actually playing the game. I particularly dislike the answers that are obviously intended to be funny and far out, but which could never be a match. The guy who always got it just right was Richard Dawson. He was funny and entertaining, but he played the game too. Apart from the regulars, the cutesy bits the stars do before revealing their answers are often more annoying than funny.

    • @radiorob7543
      @radiorob7543 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Agreed. It seemed as Richard really cared about the contestants. Surely a good reason why he was asked to be a host (of Family Feud) Charming man.

    • @AlmostWorthless
      @AlmostWorthless 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The "cutesy banter" was what made the show popular to this day. I honestly don't know what everyone sees in Richard. Most of the time he acted like he was above everyone else and by the time he left to do Family Feud, he was a just a flat-out jerk. The only people he cared about were the ingenues sitting to his right.

    • @crissrudd4554
      @crissrudd4554 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      AlmostWorthless Richard was the best because he did care for contestants, both here and on FF. People always picked him because he had good ESP with the contestants. He was flirty but he always wanted fairness. Sure he had arguments with producers but many times it was because he didnt want contestants getting screwed which did happen on many occasions on both shows (look up Match Game School Riot). As far as him being a jerk, watch his farewell speech on Family Feud.

    • @brookehanley3659
      @brookehanley3659 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Trumploy....a French word meaning fool the eye............and the big money answer was "Point of no return "...... 1975... uncanny.

      Fortunately nothing to do with Trump -- and not spelled like that, either... : )

    I am surprised they did not reshoot the opening. Cameramen were unprepared. Although I shouldn't be . i attended a taping of the price is right years ago and one of the models was to pull a sheet off of a new car but it got caught on the fender and she had to pull and pull. I asked Bob Barker if they will re film that segment. he said, ''we are going to leave it just the way it is'' BTW They dont treat their audiences very well. They keep you waiting many hours before they let you into the studio for taping. We had to be there at 7AM and they did not tape until 2pm . Never again.

      Some shows kind of thrive on mistakes and this was one of them. Some of them were probably on purpose. Or, at least, they knew a smooth running operation was counter to the mission.

    Does anyone know what was the most won or the longest reigning champion? The prizes by today's standards are not very impressive, but as a 70s child I remember my mom winning a $200 X Mas raffle, and it buying ALOT of luxuries that we never could have afforded on her salary.

      Samidella idella - John Schlicker won $8,800 in 1975, that's about $40,000 in today's money. Not too shabby.

      AD77 did you pick up at all how uncomfortable one person in particular seemed to feel that entire episode? and with pretty good reason?
      this was simply hard to watch.

      @@Rhythmic22 It's fraught, though, to watch stuff through a modern lens and make those conclusions. Whether Scoey was really ticked off or if it was his comedic approach. Or both! I just know that if I was making a TV show today, I'd be making it for 2019 and not 2060.
