Morelia is such an underrated city.
It’s one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico in my opinion.

@@TheMortells Agreed! It is such an underrated city. I have family and friends that live in Morelia and in nearby vicinities. I easily go there up to 5 times a year to visit my parents (who retired and live there now) and my closest friends. I am looking into hopefully moving there and splitting my time between Chicago (where I live) and Morelia. Such a beautiful city filled with so much history and culture!

I have lived in Morelia-Michoacán for 35 years and it is a quiet place, I have never been assaulted, I have never been present in a shooting, I think that if you are, it is because you have very bad luck, almost as if lightning struck your head :D, going out at night is safe, and in the center it is very cozy, you can take an Uber anywhere, we love that people from other countries come and visit our beautiful city. I recommend not going to nearby places in Michoacán such as Apatzingan, Tepalcatepec, La Ruana, Arteaga, those places have problems with drug trafficking, it is very likely that the mafia is not interested in you, but there sometimes there are wars between rivals.

Thanks so much for your comment! We've heard the same from several other people from Morelia and Michoacán. Our experience was wonderful, and we're glad that that is the typical experience for visitors. Thank you for welcoming people like us with open arms!

So much beauty lies within Mexico however I still wouldn’t consider it a safe place as no such areas controlled by drug cartels exists in America and America is pretty dangerous. Im not saying you can’t survive there without being attacked but at the same I wouldn’t urge any tourist to visit a foreign place where the government isn’t always in charge.

If you give yourself the opportunity, you are welcome to this country, far from what you might believe from the scandalous news, it is quite safe, sometimes it is a shame that the media is so alarmist to have more ratings, and it creates too many fears.@@JohhLK94

I’m Mexican, from Mexico City, but fell badly in love with Morelia when I was 21 (I’m 28 now) I first started going there for an ex girlfriend who studied there, I was doing the trip like every week or 2 weeks, and sometimes staying for 1 or 2 months at a time, that lasted for about 4 years, and then I moved there for work, it was my dream to live there and from the very beginning I enjoyed the city so much, the food, the people, the mercados, and for someone who truly truly loves walking with no purpose Morelia is just amazing, I now live all the way in the north and miss Morelia so much, hope I can someday go back to stay.

We relocated to Morelia almost three years ago. My wife is a Mexican citizen and I'm from Reno, Nevada. I've never been victimized, or approached by ANY crime. Have never been scammed, because I'm from the US. I've never been made to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome. The people, culture, architecture, and the people have been wonderful! As in EVERY big city around the world, if you look for trouble, you can find it.

I've lived in Michoacán for 24 years, very near Morelia. In all that time, the U.S. State Department has been whining about how you should not visit it. It's baloney. Don't visit bad areas, but the same can be said in the United States.

Just stumbled on your channel looking for info on Morelia. That is so cool that you travel with your pets, especially your cat (crazy cat lady here!). I am wondering about the logistics of that. Your kitty must be pretty mellow and I would imagine you got him(?) used to traveling at a young age. Helps that he’s orange 😸 Anyway, good luck on your travels and have fun!

It did take some time for him to get comfortable to traveling but he isn't the type of cat that tries to run away so that makes life on the road a lot easier. We have met quite a few traveling cats on the road the last couple of years!
