  • Hey guys! I hope you enjoy the views of my bike commute.
I use the Brompton folding bike most of the times, as it's comfortable and I keep it under my desk.

Nice video. I live in Zhuhai (China) and work in Macau and I commute to work with my Brompton all the time except on rainny days.
It is 15km ride one way and takes me about 1 hour including crossing the border between China and Macau.
Riding the Brompton is by far the fastest way among all options as it will not be affected by traffic congestion during peak hours

Neat. That is crazy traffic but not surprising with a border crossing.

I'm an adult who has never cycled my entire life. Your videos make me want to learn how to ride a bike. Waiting for my cycle to work scheme certificate to be approved by the HR as the cheapest Brompton bike is around £780. Keep those videos coming! Watching all the way from London🇬🇧

Hey Matt, you're definitely not alone on this one. A lot of people learn how to ride a bike as an adult and get the hang of it pretty fast. You'll be happy to know that a folding bike is often indicated for adults to learn how to balance themselves. You can lower the seat post halfway, and use it as a child's balance bike. If you don't know what a balance bike is, look it up. You'll be riding in no time! Welcome to the channel!

Hey Matt, a couple of suggestions from someone who has a Brompton and commutes using it in London. When you say the cheapest Brompton, I am guessing you're going for the B75. If that's the case, make sure you buy some mudguards for that one - surprisingly, they do not come with mudguards as a standard. Come winter, you will thank me for this suggestion. :) Additionally, if you don't feel as confident about cycling in London/have never ridden a bike before, your local borough most likely has free classes to both teach you how to ride a bike and build confidence - these are geared towards people of all ages so no need to be shy! Lastly, make sure to look up "London Cycling Campaign" and see if you would be interested in joining. LCC do some amazing work lobbying for world-class cycling infrastructure and each borough has a local branch of LCC. I wish you all the best!

    • @mattbalajadia
      @mattbalajadia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@additional09 yes it is indeed the B75! Ordered from Evans Cycles. And yes, I ordered some mudguards, rack, folding pedals because it is always, always raining in London! And i just checked as you suggested, Brent does offer free cycling lessons. Cheers mate for letting me know!

@@mattbalajadia Awesome! I wish you lots of happy riding in London - it's increasingly safer and calmer city to ride in. Here's the local branch of LCC for Brent. Once COVID situation calms down, you should be able to go on "guided rides" and group events with them: www.brentcyclists.org.uk/

Nice channel - love watching people getting around by bike. :-)
I started using a bike around town (Vancouver, Canada) many years ago when my car was stolen, and pretty quickly decided I didn't really need a car in the city. Shortly afterwards I went on my first bike trip (New Zealand) and got hooked on touring for the next decade or so. My last major trip was down the west coast from Vancouver to the Mexican border - highly recommended if only you can find the time to do it.
I still get so much pleasure out of just riding around town doing errands or exploring different parts of the city & surroundings, sometimes putting the bike on a bus or train & starting off at the end of the line. Like you I've discovered that there's virtually nothing in daily life that can't be done, or transported, wth a bike and occasional trailer use.
If I ever came across the person who stole my car, the most logical thing would be to thank him. :-)

Live in Minneapolis but I am a consultant so where I work changes. Last year, I used an e-bike to on a commute that was 27 miles one way (54 total!), or I would use a Brompton to ride 10 miles to a bus stop and do the rest by bus. The great thing about the Brompton is it gives me lots of flexibility to hop on a bus, train, etc. if I want to change my commute, or I could put it in the trunk of a colleague's car if we go for beers after work. :)

    lovely channel, nice videos.
I‘m located in Dortmund, Germany and ride my bikes daily. Mostly I use my cargo bike (Omnium minimax) for my daily commute and shopping. My Brompton is used more for long distance multi mode travels, but with the trailer you’ve presented it could even replace my cargo bike in most situations.
For driving our son around to sports and other events we use our Tern GSD. So - no car needed over here. Just some bikes- for one car you can buy plenty of bikes :-)

For work, it’s around 34-36km round trip. If I do groceries here at the mall near home, around 9km round trip. I loved the bike infrastructure you have there in your city. We are hoping and praying that one day, we’ll have a better infra for cycling/walking here in our country. Thank you for your great content. Brompton is my dream bike. I will surely invest in that bike one day. Stay safe! 😊

Thanks for you comment Jenel, and welcome to this channel! I lived in Brazil my whole life, so I understand what it means to not have bike infrastructure. I also hope things get better there in that sense, even though the government is sooo slow when it comes to bike investments... stay safe, and stick around! There are a few non-Brompton videos planned for the future, but it will all be related to biking in the city!

This is a great video which really captures why a commute by bike is almost always better than a commute trapped in a car. I am shocked that a car-centric city like Atlanta has such a wonderful bikeway such as the one that you traveled on in this video, which give me hope for similarly sprawling cities like Phoenix.

I also cycle with my Brompton M6R every day 6 km each way, near Barcelona (Spain) including a significant level uprise in a space of just 250 meters! Thats why I've included on my Brompton chainring reduction in order to climb that little hill. And as you said, yes, the original light is not so good at night. I mean, it does the job, but far from I thought. See you!

I also have the reduced chainring and think it's worth it, even for flat cities. But I enjoy riding slowly. The normal chainring really helps on going faster.

Before I retired in 2005 I used my first Brompton during the summer to commute 8 miles to work, 7 of these were on a bike path along the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal where I used to be tracked by a heron, and once saw a kingfisher. The Brompton was better than a normal bike due to rear suspension, but worse due to the dreaded rear wheel punctures. However with a Brompton I could transfer to a bus. Sadly since 2005 the surfacing of the cycleway has deteriorated so badly that it is no longer rideable except by mountain bike. Regards Stewart Dorrell from Chester England

    • @EverydayCycling
      @EverydayCycling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Stewart, that sounds like such a great route! And I see you enjoyed the bird encounters you had. Awesome! I also think the Brompton is more comfortable than other bikes because of the rear suspension block. I've had quite a bit of punctures on the rear tire to the point that now I'm totally comfortable with fixing them. Haha Thanks for being here and taking the time to comment! Have a great weekend!

I was really taken with what a lovely route you've chosen, though I initially racked my brain tyring to establish how you were able to record from the high, rear position whilst cycling,
I then saw the shadow of your stick!
The drone shots were really neat and I thought how good it would be if you could have a drone automatically track your journey and how it would be better than dash type camera footage due to its airborne advantage!
However, when I saw that there was a Concorde engine in the foyer of your work, I simply sat, agog at what I was seeing!
This was simply spectacular, such beautiful engineering just sitting in the foyer!
It's hardly surprising that your subscription and viewing figures are increasing, as you're an interesting, enthusiastic, objective and honest presenter and narrator.
You have excellent videography and editing skills and you genuinely care about the content you create.
Your production quality is top notch, and your care and commitment are really appreciated by your subscribers and viewers.
Edited to say that I'm in London.

Thank you! It's interacting with people like you that keep me motivated to record these videos.
Thanks for being an active member of the channel!
Unfortunately I can't have the drone follow me for the entire ride, that would be awesome... first because my drone is very simple and doesn't have reliable obstacle avoidance, and second because before any flight I need to go in an app, register a rough flight route and get permission. It's such a pain that I end up doing my rides twice. I go once to record all the angles except for the drone footage, and then I ride again with the intention of getting only the drone shots. A bit tedious but the result if fun!
I like inventing different angles and experimenting with my videography, so you'll see some different formats of video in this channel, and your feedback will always be greatly appreciated!

If I had the opportunity to commute that route to work it may tempt me from semi-retirement, not, but great ride and excellent camera work sir!
My wife and me each have a 6 speed Brompton and ride them for pleasure only. We are in the East Midlands of the UK, without any decent riding routes. We would have to ride out in the car to find half decent places to cycle for any distance - cyclist awareness by most drivers is appalling here, which puts my wife off from riding ‘normal’ roads... 🤷🏼‍♂️ 🤔

Everyday Cycling Thank you! Not ignorance at all, apology not necessary. Currently we are in East Northamptonshire living pretty much rural in a rented farm cottage. It is a lovely location, just not good for pleasure cycling. We will be moving a couple of miles along the road in a few months when our house is finished. Not quite so rural then, on the edge of a tiny village. If it helps, we are kind of between Peterborough city and Oundle town. Keep enjoying that wonderful commute... 👍🏻😉
