That mysterious purple and grey checker pattern is the default texture for the Unreal Engine when Arkham Asylum was being developed. That is why it appears in so many out of bounds locations. You can probably find it in a bunch of other games as well.

There is a lot of stuff out of bounds in Batman Arkham games. But the only thing that bugs me to this day is the fact that, the world in Batman Arkham games, such as Arkham Asylum, City and Origins outside of playable area is not the same in comparison to each other. And even if you compare it to Batman Arkham Knight, it is still not the same, and even locations of previous games are placed in wrong directions in Arkham Knight. It's almost like all of the games set in different universes.
27:27 What the hell happened on that part? I was expecting to see the best scenario of the Arkham franchise, which is the Arkham Asylum, by Arkham City perspective, but the video suddenly got cut off.

I think when you are in Arkham Origins, the reason you can’t see Black Mask’s real face is because that mask IS his real face, and that’s why other thugs have one and he does not.
Umm, we literally see him without the mask in the game. When Batman has to rescue him and then gets attacked by copperhead. I think the mask getting burned onto him happens later on, but in origins it seems like it hasn’t happened yet.
