Astro definitely has their own sound.
We also have a forever member in Astro. Moonbin. April 19th was the 1 year anniversary of him becoming out forever member.
his loss devastated the group, Aroha and kpop in general. He was precious to the entire industry

Wow! What a nice surprise! Of all other non-BTS groups to check out, you happened to pick Astro, which is not as big of a group as others, but the only group I follow. Their songs and their personalities just hit me differently, and I will forever be a fan. You won't find super hard, dark concepts from this group, which is not my taste. They are more on the bright, uplifting side. It's a niche sound that not many go for and I like that about them. They have dabbled with different styles (not too far) but always come back to their signature sound. The last 2 digital singles they released after Moonbin's passing are the typical/original Astro sound that I love (Circles and Fly). But their more popular ones that seem to capture more people's attention are All Night, Blue Flame, Knock, and One. You won't go wrong with any of these. Hope you check out more of their work!

Definitely chuck out more Astro, they’re underrated and SUPER talented as well. I didn’t expect this to be the next bg for you to check but I’m glad it is! I highly recommend “Blue Flame”, “All Night”, and “Knock”, these are some of my favorite title tracks from them.
Just a little background/info on the group. Astro debuted as a 6 member group in 2016. They are now a 4 member group as one of the members, Rocky, decided not to resign with company again after their contract expired last year in February, so he left and became a solo artist. The other member unfortunately passed away last year, April 19th. His passing was a huge shock and hit for the kpop industry/community, although Astro never was mainstream in terms of popularity Moonbin started his career as a child actor then turned singer so he’s been in the industry for a long time and befriended many idols/k-celebs so in a way the industry really took a pause for a moment when news broke out, not only that but his sister is also an idol too so this was big news. Since his passing the rest of the members have yet to release any music as a group (which is completely understandable) but have released solo songs that they dedicated to him during his birthday and death anniversary. They also have done a few solo projects as well but so far there is no news on new music/comeback. Regardless I hope you continue to check out their music as a group, music from their subunits and any solo releases too!

This group is magic to my ears, it has great influence from music of many styles, I just don't think they make very dark concepts. They have something special and each song grows as it plays.
I like all their songs, it's one of those bands that has incredible b-sides and subunits that provide what the group doesn't have (so if you want something funkier you have Jinjin-Rocky and if you want something darker you have Moonbin and Sanha) Mj (their main vocalist) has a Trot album which is a traditional Korean style. Recently, after the group suffered a lot last year, Cha Eunwoo released a solo album, it was the last of the group to release something alone or as a subunit, the album is called Entity and it is a sea of emotions, I love U&I, Stay and Where am I. But the whole album is super emotional and honest.
This group is very involved in the creation of their songs, I recommend Knock, All Night, After Midnight, One, Cazy Sexy Cool, Blue Flame, Again, More, When you call my Name.....I'm sorry, there are many, and I'm missing haha
If you want you can see their practice dances, which are great. They come from a company that has suffered a lot of problems so they have polished themselves and rarely have the massive diffusion that kpop normally does, you will not find a lot of super productions (the company does not invest much in general), but The quality of the boys is excellent. I hope to see more reactions to Astro! Thanks for reacting to them and for reading my super long message haha have a good day!

I love this song! Great reaction video! Another Astro song I recommend is “All Night”. I Absolutely LOVE IT!
Thank you for taking a look at Astro. Last year was a pretty devastating year for them. One member named Rocky left the group and formed his own label. Another member named Moonbin passed away. 🤍He is missed dearly. They’re left with four members now. Jinjin is the leader and the rapper. MJ (I believe he’s recently back from his military duty) is the main vocalist. Sanha is a vocalist and the youngest member of the group “The maknae”. Eunwoo is a vocalist and also a popular actor.
Their fandom’s name is Aroha and their company is Fantagio.

As I’m in a hurry and headed out the door I feel like my little comment isn’t enough…
It feels a little insulting to just leave it at that about Moonbin. He wasn’t just a loss for Astro and Aroha but the whole kpop community really suffered a big loss. He was so very talented and such a personality, sweet and kind, known by everyone… he put out daily content and followed by so many people.
I’m a kpop fan that was late to kpop but I followed Moonbin almost from the very beginning of my kpop journey. I had kinda a rough time with his passing. So if anyone reads my comments who’s in pain from this loss I want to be respectful and thoughtful with my words.

Thanks for reacting to Astro! I remember I was surprised the first time I heard rap in K-pop, but then I remembered that western boy bands also sometimes had rap breaks, like The Backstreet Boys in Get Down, and then 5ive (a British boyband) had rappers as well.
Astro’s song One kinda has that old school NSYNC/Boyzone boy band sound. Definitely worth checking out!

Ah Astro… my first loves. If you want a well-executed, light pop, boy group aesthetic with amazing synchronized choreo, Astro is a good place to start. Check out Baby (still #1 on my favorite dance practice list), Hide &Seek, Crazy Sexy Cool, and the song that started my Kpop journey- All Night. Although we lost Moonbin last year, it’s so nice to see others wanting to get to know Astro. It’s hard to work your way out of the BTS rabbit hole, but it’s worth it! I recommend GOT7, Seventeen , and NCT Dream (you’re not quite ready for NCT, but Dream is a good start? Lol) Great reaction!

Kpop has generations. BTS and Astro are among the 3rd gen ( 2012 - 2017) kpop groups. Also 3rd gen groups are Seventeen, Blackpink, Exo, Twice, NCT and Mamamoo. Stray Kids, Itzy, TXT, Ateez, New Jeans, Le Sserafim are among 4th gen (2018 - 2022) idols. Currently kpop is now debuting 5th gen (2023 - present) idols. Some very popular 2nd gen (2005-2011) idols are BigBang, 2ne1, Girls Generation, Super Junior and Shinee. 1st gen (1996 - 2004) idols basically started kpop. Here we have groups like Shinhwa and H.O.T. Most experts credit Seo Taiji and Boys as really the pioneer of k-pop and they have more of a hip-hop sound and look. You should listen to their song Come Back Home. It's really good.

Fun fact: since you mentioned Michael Jackson.. H.O.T (the first kpop "idol" boygroup) and S.E.S (popular kpop girlgroup back in the 90s) performed as guests at Michael Jackson's benefit concert in Seoul in 1999. If that's not the only one, it's definitely one of the only "direct" interactions between Michael Jackson and Kpop lol.
H.O.T was not only the first group created under the ""formula"" most kpop companies follow nowadays, but it was the most popular kpop group in South Korea in the late 90s and even had fan bases in other East Asian countries, which could be considered the first expansion of kpop internationally. With the 2nd generation this internacional audience increased significantly. With the 3rd it was more explosive. Something directly related to the globalization and massification of internet use in the world.
I recommend H.O.T's song "Hope", a very iconic song inspired by Beethoven's Ode to Joy (Symphony No.9 in D minor) that H.O.T's Kangta composed as a way to encourage people who were going through difficult times due to the Asian financial crisis in 1998 and it was performed at MJ's concert. That's a song with a more classic 90s pop sound, but I feel a lot of the most popular Seo Taiji or H.O.T songs would sound too crazy or even atrocious to unfamiliar ears, but it's a fact they influenced many groups later and normalized korean experimental music and mixing genres in shocking/crazy ways, which some old kpop fans believe is one of the unique elements that Kpop offers, or frequently offered before it globalized and became more "friendly", "appealing" or "easier to digest" to international audiences.
Anyway, moving on, if you want to explore a very interesting discography in kpop I highly recommend checking out ONF! Their most recent release "Bye My Monster" and songs like "Goosebumps", "Ugly Dance" and "Popping". Incredibly talented group with amazing live vocals.
From ASTRO I would recommend their songs "Knock" or "ONE" if you want to explore other sounds of theirs. They're also a group known for their light and nostalgic pop ballads such as "No, I don't", "We Still" or "Waterfall". They're one of my favorite groups bc of their most softer sound and unique dance style 💜 Though I confess that the loss of one of their members took me away from their music a little, it was extremely sad, but little by little nostalgia won me over and I'm coming back to their discography.
    Thank you for the video!

    First off, R.I.P to Moonbin
The first kpop group is tricky some say it was Seo Taiji and boys and some say it was H.O.T.
What most people think of as kpop is really genre called idol music which was started by H.O.T. but it wouldn't be possible without Seo Taiji and boys. It's usually seen as Seo Taiji is the father of modern kpop and H.O.T. are the first idol group. We track idol music with generations which is also tricky to categorize.
There is no set rule on how to define the generations in kpop. I've seen people say were in the 5th or even 6th generation of kpop. I think this subject is tricky because of Time. Or our perception of time to be more specific. Take 3 year. In high school that's going into 9th grade to start of the 12th year. That seemed like forever when I was in school but now as an adult working that's 2021 to now. That seemed like yesterday. I can see how people could squeeze 2-3 generation of kpop in 6-8 years because if you're younger that seems like such a long time. Also the only time you know when a generation is over is when a new one comes around. So working backwards from when kpop started which is in 1992 and no one questions that. I think there's only 4 generations. And here's how I define them.
    1st generation: The Fondation generation
Spark: Seo Taiji and boys release their self title debut breaking the ultra conservative korean music industry norms and inspiring a new generation of kids.
Defining moment: SM entertainment creates a system to train their artists based on American pop music and Japanese idol culture.
    Defining group: H.O.T.
    2nd generation: The Creative generation
Spark: SM entertainments solo star BoA break out of the Korean music industry and becomes a superstar in the rest of Asia. People in the music industry scramble to recreate SMs success by creating new companies to compete in the larger Asian community and flooding South Korea with idol groups and have to be increasingly creative for their idols to stand out.
Defining moment: A small hip-hop label called YG decides to captialize the popularity of idols and switches their focus from hip-hop to idol music. They create their first idol group called BigBang and give them creative freedom and control. They go on to inspire the next generation and reshape kpop with their creativity.
    Defining group: BigBang
    3rd generation: The Global generation
Spark: Psy's Gangnam style becomes a global phenomenon and redefines what's possible with korean music. To recreate YG's success companies start focus on breaking into the global music market.
Defining moment: A small company called BigHit use social media to market their idol group called BTS directly to music fans after being drowned out in the overcrowded Korean market.
    Defining group: BTS
    4th generation: The Westerized generation
Spark: BTS's Dynamite goes supernova and becomes a hit everywhere with lyrics completely in English. Companies scramble to copy BTS's success by making their idols speak more English and cater to western tastes.
    Defining moment: To be determined
    Defining group: To be defined

Loved this reaction. Im also slowly listening to other groups than BTS. I also love The Rose. Early on would see Astro at award shows with BTS and then Eunwoo of Astro is good friends with Jungkook and Jimin away from the music world. Its crazy how the mandatory military service for Korean men have interrupted the Kpop mens groups! But one Kpop singer you may want to check out is Taeyang with Jimin. He was a member of BigBang, got married, did his military service and after 6 years came back to do a collab with Jimin w song called Vibe last year. Nate....You Nice, Keep Going!!!💜
