@@MisterPolitical1 “Mary Lou McDonald is the next Taoiseach” Yeah sure she is. It’s definitely not wishful Sinn Fein thinking. O’Neill isn’t the first minister of anything until the executive is allowed to form.
Can anyone explain the history of the Red Hand to me, is it a myth or did the severed Red Hand actually happen in a battle, and which battle and did was it.? An Ulsterman once give me a brief account of what happened when I worked at Harland's shipyard in 1999, but he din't mention an actual battle or date, therefore I think it may have come from Cuhulain or something similar. Cheers either way for any information on which story you were taught and by whom. Gilly WATP!
Its believed an ancient ancestor/Ulaid Hero named Conall Cernach hacked the bloodied hand off an enemy combatant and pressed it against a stolen banner, leaving a bloody handprint. He did this as a way to avenge his slain friend, Cú Chulainn, who was another Ulaid hero. This story is recounted in The Ulster Cycle of Irish Folklore.
