Back in O.C. Calif when I was 30 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a David Gilmour show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. Hard to explain how awesome that moment was in my life. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.

Watching Rick Wright here playing so beautifully on this STUNNING version of “Echoes” makes me cry with joy and sorrow simultaneously. This was his last public playing before his death - he was always the quiet member yet his sound anchored the band and gave them that mysterious, melancholy, and haunting Pink Floyd sound. Thank you Rick for the beauty and light you gave us!

Mr. Wright seemed like the type of person that would not say anything ill about anybody.

The presence of the three Davids (Gilmour, Bowie, Crosby) on stage, along, the soothing and exalting harmonies of Gilmour, Crosby, & Nash, and Gilmour’s ownincomparable melodious voice, make this an experience to be cherished. Right from the first song ('On an Island'), you can observe Crosby and Nash lovingly basking in the music. My favourites ('Echoes,' 'Wish You Were Here') surpassed previous performances. The audience is seen gently head-banging to some of the more robust songs, often appearing as if they were playing the guitar alongside Gilmour. Rick Wright displays his genius unflinchingly proving he is a perfect pairing with Gilmour. For decades, I've been captivated by Pink Floyd's ability to weave words into poetry and transform music into something truly magical, profound, and transportive. Thank you David Gilmour. You will live FOREVER. Yours is music God himself listens to.

This is fantastic, couldn’t sleep so I got up and found this marvelous production, my late husband , introduced me to you! He admired you greatly. Rick, my deceased husband, started playing the drums at thirteen. He played in local night clubs. Later
He and other high school friends formed small bands. Charlie Rich and Rick were friends and Charlie asked Rick to go on tour with him. His mother would not allow it. Rick went to college. He met a group of guys and they formed The Swinging Sensations! They went on to Memphis and placed first in competition! Then like the song Rick, Mike and Bill got married. Chris went on a mission trip. Never married, it was fun while it lasted thanks for this wonderful music to wrap myself in memories on this cold night! Love this BAND!

There is NO ONE AND NOTHING like David Gilmour, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason (absent here). All the Floyds music penetrates the very core of my body and soul. David Gilmour continues to hypnotize me, sending my senses into another realm. I have adored the Floyd and David Gilmour since I was 11 years old. I'm now 61 and NEVER get tired of hearing them. I've seen him perform twice, and it's not enough... I will NEVER get enough of this 'master of his artistry'. Watching this today and honoring the indomitable Richard Wright, David Bowie, and David Crosby, may they rest in peace.

I know you are all hardcore fans. The first Act really demonstrates how Pink Floyd music was communal. It took the whole group to make the Art we love an' can't get enough of. The magic of synchronation, the people involved, and not just the core musicians, their friends and techies, too, their skills musically and peoplely, coming together truely produced incredible things. Then all of a sudden, this beautiful sound that slowly creeps up on you.wow, my senses reeling.and just builds and builds, all these different musical sounds just had all my senses charged.
My brother had just put on, shine on you crazy diamonds from the wish you were here album.and to say i was hooked, was a tremendous understatement.

Just goes to show, (the show must go on. And on) nothing really changes. (There’s no dark side of the moon really, matter of fact it’s all dark). Everyone’s life depicted in their moon And Wall albums. Nobody can escape going on stage, needing (some kind of) help now n then too perform. Revolts consistent through the generations, modern ones created and controlled by “teachers”. Like the similarities in todays overall world, regarding Orwells 1984, so goes each generation and the lives that want and seek the dark side of things, only to find there is no dark side, its ALL RELATIVE, only differences being, the UNDERSTANDING , facing the truths and acceptance of life’s realities. So With that my barnyard friends, I’ll see you, on the Dark side of the Moon. Someday.. ps: ‘ALAN PARSONS PROJECT’ goes well if not a necessary compliment to the TURNtable.

There's an answer to this: listen and let the sound and music carry you away. Of course this is what happens to the listener, but to the performing artist as well! The art, maybe better put: an important part of the artist's craftmanship, is to put yourself in a state of mind that will allow for this. Another important part of the craftmanship is having a lot of audio/motoric routines in your body (brain included), and trust in this performing so you can put your mind to the carrying away part. Both crafts come from practice, which in turn comes from ambition.

The take of "When I Close My Eyes" here is great too - beautifully played, slowly rising with wistful nostalgia - and leading up to that dignified cornet solo by Robert Wyatt, sitting in a wheelchair (he fell out of a window during a party night around 1973) but still managing those graceful high notes. The way the others are treating him and making sure he's allright is so touching, and David's voice is thick with emotion as he announces him just after the song, you can hear the lump in his throat.
And yes, this is one of the last stage performances of David Bowie.
This one and Waters' "In the Flesh" dvd from a few years earlier are, in my opinion, the best Floyd-related concert films ever, they feel more alive and "into the core" of the music than e.g. Pulse.

Yes - I honestly think he has perfect pitch, as in the rarest form, perfect absolute pitch (meaning one has it from day one vs perfect relative pitch, which is developed by great musicians over time as they learn music). Gilmour’s interval relationships, intonation, and command of the slide - as in never missing pitches or flatting or sharping them - is just awe inspiring. Very very few guitarists with this command of the ear (pitch) AND the instrument (ability to hit every note perfectly)

Then they play some of the best deep cuts off of the epic _Meddle_ (yes, it's _Echoes_ in its entirety!)...
