Horyuji Temple is the Oldest Wooden Buildings in the world. It also includes the amazing wood carvings inside the Horyuji five-storied pagoda and one of the three earliest Ancient Buddha murals in Asia in the Horyuji Main Hall. The design of Horyuji Temple comes from the Chinese culture of the Sui Dynasty and is the only reference in the world. In Chinese mainland during the Sui Dynasty, all the ancient monuments of the Sui Dynasty have been totally destroyed in entire chinese mainland in the millennia of war. The entire Horyuji Temple Complex has been through earthquakes, typhoons, and wars and has existed intact for more than 1,300 years, just like Itsukushima Shrine. It is important to know that any stone-brick monuments in Europe, Central America, and Ancient Egypt cannot guarantee that they will survive any earthquake for more than 1,000 years. The earthquake resistance of the five-storied pagoda and the amazing ancient Buddha murals in Horyuji Main Hall are completely masterpieces of human creative genius. The current Horyuji Main Hall murals was repainted later, because it was destroyed by a fire during the restoration process in 1949, and it has become a major loss to the world's cultural heritage of humanity. But fortunately, the image of the mural had been captured through glass photographic plates before the fire, and all the burnt murals have been moved to another place for preservation. How can wooden building last that long? Did it experience any restoration?
It requires a lot of maintenance and care, which has been kept up over the centuries. Thanks for watching 👍
most japanese structures are rebuilt/restored due to damage by fire/natural disasters over the years
