Dan, after all of the Open Heart Surgery you’ve had, we all are amazed at what you’re accomplishing in these videos. PLEASE don’t apologize for taking care of your health.
Adventure of a lifetime! Wandering around the western US, looking a rocks, mining with friends, learning and exploring, spending time with Evan. Good on ya Dan
"Hey everyone, I just had to take a moment to talk about California Gold! WooHoo! There's just something magical about the Golden State, from the glittering beaches and towering redwoods to the bustling cities and picturesque vineyards. California truly has it all, and I feel so lucky to call it my home. So if you're looking for a place that's filled with adventure, beauty, and excitement, come join us in California Gold! Woohoo!"
I used to work in a factory that processes spices. We used a lot of very similar equipment, but on a much, much larger scale. It's interesting to see the similarities. We had hammer mills (not this video, but previous). We had sifters using 20, 30, 40, 100 mesh, etc, to separate the finished product. I think it's really cool to see the crossover. Processing large materials into small materials seems to be quite similar, regardless of what it is.
Being underground is my home I've been in 5 different gold mines this week and going to be doing some exploring of course I'm after Pockets rather than the finding disseminated stuff but congratulations Mount Baker
I wish I was young enough so I could go pan gold again in Northern California. Those Rivers and Creeks are going to be all stirred up from the huge runoff and I guarantee you there will be gold to be had if one had the physical ability to go get it. When I was a young man I panned the Truckee River off and on and it was a blast getting Gold Fever when I saw a few precious flakes in the pan. Those were good times for me.
Dan, I have a suggestion: Since you have a beard, wearing a half face negative pressure respirator provides you with no respiratory protection against inhaled rock dust! The dust just leaks through your beard past the face seals of respirator. Get a powered air purifying respirator and wear it every time you may be exposed to rock dust. (One of the Mine Operator guys wore his and appeared well protected.) I'm a retired safety guy and I just couldn't help myself 😷😅
That mineralized quartz is EXACTLY the same as the pebbles I find in the glacial moraine here in central NJ. It's 100% identical in appearance, peppered with tiny black hematite crystals, and small crumbly pockets of weathered sulfides and calcites. And, sure enough, it contains very fine gold. The largest flakes I've ever found are only about 2 millimeters across, and foil-thin. I also find greenstone-carrying quartz, and quartz with manganese streaks and splotches. Since it's from a glacier that dragged stuff all the way from Canada, it has EVERYTHING it picked up in the journey all mixed together.
Dan just a little fyi. If you ever go panning for gold in Calufirnia you will want to know that much of our gold in Coloma, Folsom, American River and various other water ways has Gold covered in Mercury! So you could be panning and end up with lots of grey/silver stuff at the bottom of your pan that is where the gold should be. I used to gold pan with my dad as we are California natives that live with the areas where large amounts of gold are found " Gold Country". We used to find gold with Mercury from the old miners. It's so detrimrntal to the environment & sad. Dad had to deal with the Mercury issue out side in the fresh air. There are still areas with clean beautiful gold here though. I live about 20 min ftom all the huge 20/30 ft. Tailings /Piles left over from the huge commercial dredges that were used during the Gold Rush. The gold on the American River is pretty clean but Coloma's gold is faurly polluted. Take Care.
Well I wasn't going to do any prospecting today and relax, but, once again you got me all hyped up so it's off to the river I go, another great video Dan!
If you ever get a chance; a video from Sutter's Creek. CA would be interesting. I worked for UPRR a ways North of there and when we dug a 7'x7'x7' foundation I found a 3' across quartz crystal cluster. Sadly, since we were on the clock. I couldn't take the time I wish I could have. I have about 30 crystals ranging from 3" wide x 5" long to 1"x 3". I found a few 1/8" chunks that might be gold. The quartz vein went from the top of the hole, diagonal, to the bottom corner where we found the cluster. It's under road, sidewalk and RR crossing mechs now.
I love your adventurous and awesome wild adventures on your quest to find gold. Good job wearing the correct gear as it could be dangerous down there digging. Exciting stuff.
The kid in me wants to dig for rocks and gold just because it looks so fun! My wife has a friend who sells and hunts for crystals, and he always offers for my family to come with him crystal hunting. It’s so much fun! Thank you for documenting your work and life!
When classifying to 20 mesh and how dry the material is, would winnowing be an effective method of separation or would the fine gold blow away in the process? Just noticing the wind and the dust and it came to mind.
Great video thanks Dan. Does all gold look either yellow or sometime black? I was digging in gravel about 12 feet deep I found some stuff that was very brassy colored it was heavy in the bottom of my pan and it moved like mud if I kept it in water was told it was nothing but no one could say what it was. This was years ago now. I still wonder what I had. Thanks again
I live in this area! I wish I had known I'd have come and said hello! You picked a great time in Mar, It's getting hot now here already. And thank you I learned some new stuff about the area.
Quite an operation! Mbmmllc has the machinery to get the gold out. Maybe when I'm out in cali for good soon will do some real prospecting. Az has gold but it's so over worked all over it's getting scarce! Cali has unlimited supply. In the right spots.
best part of Dan's videos is that he says"i hope to earn your subscription"... unlike most people telling you. main reason he has mine for his type of content.
Thanks for the great episode Dan Hurd! I am concrete guy by trade and thought a concrete vibe wand would a great way to classify material in a bucket for us hobbyists. Just an idea that I will try out.
Great adventure Dan, so happy to see this one on my feed. I have a crazy idea for you that just may be of benefit to tour panning adventures, this is idea from your talking about the mud packing up around @19:00, I was a builder for a few years and when we did concrete we'd use giant vibrators to liquefy and settle the big stuff and get rid of air, but on a smaller scale might that would probably vibrate the gold to the bottom? Just throwing this out there 'cause I love all these adventures so does my kid (old kid), and I was just about to post a rant about masks when you were mucking with the powder quartz, please don't breathe any of that crap man, silicosis is horrible, then you put your mask on and I love you again :P I digress, my basic thought to pass on to you was a small low voltage vibrator you can just sit your pan on ;) Invent it before some one else does and shoot me nugget :)
Dan you use a lot of drone for your videos, do you try using them for prospecting so you don't have to walk so far? Saves on my back a lot! Have a great day God bless
Dan you should really do a video with Gary from two toes you tube channel, I am sure he would put you on some california placer gold in the motherlode of northern California, that would be an amazing video!
I would love to hear how a site like this would be discovered. In other videos as well I have seen gold mines that goes straight down from flat sandy ground. How did they know it would be gold under there?
I wonder if you should have ran the tailings of your pannings back through the crusher - I feel like it may have been more representative of how well finer processing liberates the gold from the hard rock. That way you only see the representative fraction of what you missed? (I know it's not an assay, but it might paint a clearer picture)
Dan, after all of the Open Heart Surgery you’ve had, we all are amazed at what you’re accomplishing in these videos. PLEASE don’t apologize for taking care of your health.
Got to say I really enjoy watching you and Jason work together!
What???
It’s been so fun watching these trips from both Dan and Jason’s perspectives
And overhearing about half of Dan's video in the background of Jason's, before Dan's is released 😂

I love when you make videos with Jason. Always interesting. You have some pretty good friends there Dan.
Hang in there Dan the real truth will come out. I know you wouldn't cheat anyone. Love the Chanel. Keep on keeping on.

Huh, and here I thought spice producers just hired a bunch of Oompa-Loompas to crush the nutmeg by hand.
;D
What a blast coming by. Great day out there fam. Keep on having fun getting that au and living the dream. Gold Squad Out!!!
You and Jason have the best collaboration videos! Awesome
So pretty! Fascinating too. Glad they're able to get the leftovers

I ❤ gold. It's fun to find, it's fun to buy and sell and its entertaining to watch. Thanks for sharing!

Nice drone shots Evan 🏜👍 Nice to see the shiny Gold Dan 👍 Have fun in Sunny California 🌅
Love the crusher on a bucket. Catching all the crush in. Nice for location work.
California Gold was a tv series on public TV with Huell Hauser. A travelogue of many wonderful sites in our California.
Dan seems very excited about California gold specifically, it must be a *bucket* list item (buh-dum TSSS)
Great shots Evan, @Dan Hurd great to ‘see’ the gradual passing of knowledge and pre verbal torches. Wonderful journeys ~Smile oN
Freaking awesome Dan! That was a whole lot of fun!
Love seeing you and Jason together.
Well I wasn't going to do any prospecting today and relax, but, once again you got me all hyped up so it's off to the river I go, another great video Dan!
The skip makes things a loot easier. I'm hoping to find some California gold this summer also!
That's pretty cool that not only did they let you mine their mine, but then they crushed the ore for you to pan! 👍
I’m so glad you had a good time in my state.

Great video! Thanks for bringing all of us with you on your journeys! Heavy pans!
You are so brave to go in all these mines

You should prospect the motherlode or yuba river here in California. ❤. So cool you were here
Great video. What a professional unit.
I appreciated the slow-motion video clips.
Great Video Dan!! Thx 4 Sharing Buddy! Cheers JJ
How many ounces per ton do you need to make a hard rock gold mine profitable? Like the mine in the video for instance.
Usually it's grams per ton, and it varies depending on cost, but you can Google it.
Dan it is always very interesting & entertaining watching your videos!
Fellas that bump you heard was the right front wheel on your cart hitting the first post right when it took off
"Mining" the NEW spectators sport!
Would like to see you get some riverbed California gold from one of the Gold Country streams/rivers....
You guys are awesome !!
Hugely Enjoyable !
Nice to see some from a source, Dan ^5!
Mmmmm. Gold laced chocolate milk. Yummy..
I remember the California Gold that comes out of Humbolt County. Not quite as expensive though!

@Danhurd can you stratify a bucket of river concentrate enough that you can scoop out a bunch and add more concentrates before going to pan?
Dan you use a lot of drone for your videos, do you try using them for prospecting so you don't have to walk so far? Saves on my back a lot! Have a great day God bless
Good video Dan, nice weather though.
Barstow and San Bernardino areas are good places to check out alluvial mining
Awesome thanks
I like the color green

The video speaks for itself!
