I had a 1982 Brat, loved the Cyclop eye. The Brat's were great little off road car's with the standard steel skid plate and the dual range 4wd. I lifted mine slightly with oversize rear shocks and spacers on the front struts and a local shop fabricated a differential guard for the rear. I still managed to break the muffler off a couple of times. I had 135,000 miles on it and it was still running great when my wife insisted I get rid of it. I should have gotten rid of her earlier instead. The friend I sold it to did a complete overhaul and repaint. It looked brand new and he put another 50k on it before it smashed and burned by vandals when he parked on the street in Chicago.
I still have my 79 brat here now in Phoenix AZ
Love my Brat,I'm from Mid MI!

So sad to read what happened to the Brat...
