those harsh lights you mentioned I actually point those towards the wall and it provides a nice even lighting for my webcam interviews. I then dim the lights in my office ceiling and it gives me a nice pop. It could be better but it does the job
I liked the bounced ring light best. Seemed to have less highlights (forehead and upper cheeks) to have to deal with. I like the green screen idea. Not that I'll ever use it, I just like it.
Are these mainly for shooting one person at a time? I'm trying to light a two person interview sitting with small table between them, kinda like a late night talk show. Any advice for a set up around $100? Last time I tried it we ended up with shiney heads too, as one is pretty much bald, it wasn't a good look.
Could you do a tutorial about how to get a glowing light behind you and your back drop... I’ve seen lots of them but not sure how it’s achieved??? Thank you!!
Thanks for posting! Very Helpful!!! I'm working with a ring light and felt like I was washing myself out so I'll probably use your tactic of bouncing light using my ring light. Take care and keep posting!
30 inches seems really large. Besides price, can you get similar results from a smaller ring in the 19 inch range assuming the device quality is the same?
Exactly what I was thinking. Sometimes the model and informer don't compliment each other. This is not the case. You look like you are having fun and it makes the video more fun to watch. :)
Anyone know if bouncing the light would work for people with glasses stopping glare? Wanting to start a Vlog but lighting isn't playing well with my specs. Thanks.
Hello J.P.! Love your youtube videos so much! Really cool stuff on your channel! Don't you mind if I translate some into Russian? Links to original videos will be placed in description, for sure.
definitively you need to have this girl as a PERMANENT member of your team not only she is VERY pleasing to look at with her little acting on the side it keeps everything light, fun and entertaining! Great work boss, great work.
I think Jay P missed the mark on this one. That’s a $700 ring light he’s using. What vlogger has that kind of money to spend just on a single light? Anyone with a budget like that would be much better off buying an Aputure 120d. A demo with a $100-$150 light would much more accurately reflect what the audience for this message would be spending. Those $150 lights work fine, but they will not have the performance of the light demonstrated in this video.
Mm, yeah it doesn't make people seem a little bit off. It's probably because we aren't used to seeing real people with their eyes lit with rings. Bouncing the ring light at the wall gets rid of that problem though!
My eyes!!!!!!!!! Beginning is so bright
Hope you learned a thing or two!

Great suggestions. Thanks for sharing!

Agree; the highlights looked blown on the direct ring lighting.
Great observation. When I looked at the video I thought so too the bounced ring light created the softest light.
Yes, I prefer the bounced light too for the reasons mentioned.
Agree with you totally

Your best bet is 2 soft boxes. It really depends on how they are seated. Great topic for a new lesson. Look for it.
Shadow on green screen looks like wings - angel!
Shh, it's a secret
its fantastic but when we use rgb color backlight on white background the ring light is reducing the color background
is there any solution for that
Unfortunately the only solution is to move the background further away because the ring light does wash out the color.

A glowing light? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you have a photo refernce?
The moment he started talking I subscribed 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Welcome! You might enjoy our Laws of Light series!
The Slanted Lens yeah definitely
Me too🤣🤣🤣
that ring light has some severe over exposed areas. The bounced one looks much better.
Its a matter of make up and exposure. I probably over exposed it a bit. I love the look personally. It has an interesting look.
Should the camera be behind the ring, inline with it, or in front of it?
In front looking through the ring.
Since Jay doesn't mention the particular ring light he's using, it's the Boltzen Cassiopeia by CAME-TV. www.came-tv.com/collections/folding-ring-light
We showed it briefly here 0:44 but thanks for the clarification!
Great instructive video. Lighting is something I struggle with.
Thank you for watching, we have a couple series on lighting! Check out our most recent one here: th-cam.com/video/b8oFpSO6SbI/w-d-xo.html

Good to hear. Glad you found it helpful!

Yes, a smaller 19" ring light will give you beautiful light.
when you bounce a led light off a wall do you still need high cri led light ? the color you get is now the color of the wall that is never pure white.
What lens was used to show the examples of the lighting? I love the bokeh
It's the 28-75mm 2.8 sony E lens from Tamron.
wow that ring light looked amazing but the bounced light looks so much better on that side to side comparison
Nice video! You guys make a great pair, your advice is easy on the ears and Natalie is easy on the eyes.
I LOVE IT!! Natalie was great to work with. We will have her back.

Hope you are learning some good lighting tips!
Where did you purchase the ring light?
it's CAME-TV Boltzen Cassiopeia Slim Folding Daylight 125 Watt Ring Light LED
www.came-tv.com/collections/folding-ring-light/products/boltzen-daylight-125-watt-ring-light-led
It would be great if you did a complete TH-cam studio setup for $1,000, $500 and $250.
That's a great suggestion! We will definitely keep that in mind for our future videos :)
Very helpful, thank you
Great video! You kept it fun and interested. Love it. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for shedding some light on this often-complicated topic! :0)
Of course! We had a lot of fun pretending to be vloggers for the day :D
Awesome thank you brother and sister. Great info and very very beautiful model:))
Much preferred the bounced light look since the ring catch light in her eyes is so very distracting. Fantastic model though.
It's a personal preference for many. Thanks for sharing with us! Natalia was really enthusiastic about the whole shoot, great atmosphere to shoot :)
I mean... everything looks pretty if you put her in it hahahah
Hope you learned some good pointers.
GREAT VIDEO!! THANK YOU!
Model is awesome

Agreed-Natalie is a delightful, active presence.

Its because he's making money off of affiliate links. Also the bounced lighting looks way better
Direct ring source vs ring bounced. Direct ring was over exposed
I like the look of the bounce light much better than a direct ring light. It's a personal choice.
Amazing as Always.
Thanks Eddie! We really enjoyed shooting with Came-TV's Ring light!
Natalie ❤️
She was terrific to work with. Thanks for watching!
Just looked up that ring light man the remote is a huge letdown! Who designed it...ROFL
go over prices
Stupid light circles in the eyes, realy disconnects me with the person lit with it.
Mm, yeah it doesn't make people seem a little bit off. It's probably because we aren't used to seeing real people with their eyes lit with rings. Bouncing the ring light at the wall gets rid of that problem though!
how cute is she
Thanks for watching and keep on clickin!
Yeah..... and the most important part probably would be what to do if you wear glasses like you. It reflects everything.... so what then?
You can get a coating on your lenses that doesn’t show reflection on your glasses. It’s not that much to get that coating

God damn that's expensive T_T
There are cheaper alternatives on the market! We just really like this light!
There are cheaper alternatives on the market! We just really like this light! We will be doing a comparison of similar low range lights in the future!
I hate ring-lights! I hate the light and hate the catchlights! They make everything look so unnatural! They bounce great though!
Man, she is gorgeous! I have been looking at her all-time watching this video.
Our professional models are all beautiful.
@@TheSlantedLens Agreed
And you look like bubbles from trailer park boys
Heard that a few times before. Thanks for watching!
