I have always loved Splash Mountain, it is my favorite ride, and never even knew there was a film it was based upon until I was in my early twenties. I always wondered while growing up, Why was there never a film made about these characters...
The whole world DID NOT have a problem with this movie. I grew up overseas with the VHS and books. Only a handful of “special” people in the 🇺🇸 had a problem with it.

Also I've seen interviews of older African American people who claim the stories within the film hold history for them and they don't see the attraction or the film as racist. Hell, each time I hear people claim it is, I just see white people trying to be culturally sensitive on behalf of black people who never asked for it. Finally, most children never even knew wtf the ride was about and have many fond memories with it, none of which involve race.

Disney's CEO Michael Eisner brought Song of the South back on DVD in the 80s, and people didn't have the problem with the movie at all. But ever since Bob Iger took ever, he decided to take the movie again because he made that statement saying "It wouldn't feel as appropriate in today's society", and had to follow politics and caused Splash Mountain to get rethemed. And Tiana's Bayou Adventure is including a salt mine that was originally for the enslaved people. And that's okay?! Like, come on. And they complain about Splash Mountain saying it's racist, which is not. But that's the woke agenda. And your following it, and you think Splash Mountain is racist. Even though the ride wasn't racist at all. But you can follow whatever you are picking.

I wish they would have made a full-length animated feature called Splash Mountain with state-of-the-art animation. A film that could be completely separated from the live-action film, so that there would be no controversy, and that it would be exciting. I have been wishing this for 30 years, if the Disney Company had released a full-length animated film Splash Mountain, basing it off of the ride, it would have been such a huge hit, especially in the mid to late 90s.

Thank you so much for making this video! Grew up a Disney kid loving Splash Mountain. Once I learned about its history as an adult i was absolutely appalled Disney opened it to begin with. As stated, the racism was just ignored for the sake of money. As we’ve seen these past few years racism and supremacy is so ingrained in our culture so many are blind to it and prefer to jump off a cliff (er, mountain?) defending it. The auction scene change was ridiculous, even my 12 year old daughter was like "why are they buying chickens?" When I told her it used to be a bride auction first thing she said was "why would they change it?" She spotted the absurdity without me saying a thing. The song actually says WE KIDNAP AND RAVAGE AND DON'T GIVE A HOOT! Also, I've seen Song of the South multiple times. I'm sorry, but I don't believe anyone can in good faith claim it's per se "racist." Former slaves did often stay on and work on the plantations where they'd been living their whole lives. Booker T. Washington in Up From Slavery explained that the south was destroyed and extremely poor after the war. Most freed slaves had neither the ability nor the desire to relocate, even when they could find work in other places. There was often real affection between former master and former slave, despite the system itself being evil. Song of the South is depicting that reality. Further, Song of the South depicts a young upper-class white boy growing up with a father who is always gone. His father absence is filled by Uncle Remus, a kind man with a wealth of stories and good advice. During this time the boy makes friends with the former slaves and grows to love a black man who gives him the love and guidance he so desperately needs. It's actually a very touching story about crossing racial and class divides to create real affection and love in a war-torn world. Finally, like so many have said, the ride excised any problematic parts of the movie and focused on the story Uncle Remus told of a clever rabbit who was small but used his brains to beat his enemies. Splash Mountain told that story in a three-part structure: leaving home to find an adventure, getting in over his head and the danger reaching its climax, followed by the daring escape and eventual homecoming. These are classic story beats, and they told it using a fun ride system, catchy music (far better than Princess and Frog), fun lively visuals and immersive scenes. It should have stayed.
Woke at its finest. Splash Mountain and Song Of The South was never racist. In fact, because of Song Of The South, James Baskett was the first black person to win an Oscar and an Academy Award. Disney downplaying that and the censorship is racist. Disney should have kept Splash Mountain and built Tiana’s Bayou Adventures in another location inside the park from scratch so everyone can enjoy both.

The ride ended with a celebration featuring one of the greatest movie songs ever written, "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Da." Splash Mountain was also one of the most popular rides at Disneyland and Disney World. So DEIsney kills the ride and replaces it with a ride based on a mediocre movie, with poor storytelling, craptacular animatronics, empty spaces, and the most forgettable song in Disney ride history.
