    Hi Sir m. Why when it comes to effective stress for consolidation settlement The point of interest is always the center of clay layer?

      yes because permeability of clay soil is very less. hence consolidation occur at very slow rate.

    If instead of single drainage if the number of drainage is increased to two in corresponding soil what happens to the rate of consolidation ?

      Faster consolidation. See, consolidation means the expulsion of pore water from the voids. If there is double drainage, means more water is going out. Hence, faster rate of consolidation.

    drainage path ratio should be 2 H in the denominator
