My sister-in-law and I took a class in stretch and sew. They had their own store here in NE Ohio. All patterns have to be made with knits. This was back in the early 80s. 😊
Oh my!!! My maternal grandmother majored in home economics and taught it in high schools. There wasn't anything that she couldn't make!! Over the decades, she sewed coats and shirts for my brother's. Sewed lined wool suits for my mother to wear to work. I always had new clothes every year for school..skirts, blouses, vests, dresses usually color coordinated to match and be interchangeable. She taught me how to sew, but I wish I had paid more attention!!! Love your videos!!!
When I lived in Fairfield Ct there was a Stretch & Sew Store. It was great. They had sewing classes, fashion shows made up from the Stretch & Sew patterns. It was such a fun group. There were some really terrific outfits. People can be so creative. I bet I bought almost every pattern along with tons of fabrics. Still have them all.
Hey Vivmom, i just wanted to say that my mom's name was Vivianne, with that spelling, I haven't seen anywhere else. I discovered sewing videos last year, and yours is my favorite by far! Thank you!
You cute thing... love your shows. I remember Stretch and Sew. When I took that class I made a an ankle length dress I could wear long, then with a belt could make a-blouson [remember those?], a bathing suit, lingerie,[does anyone wear a half slip anymore?] It is just two oblongs and can be made so pretty with lace and flowers etc. I would make several colors to give at bridal showers. Learned also how to put in a fly zipper easily. My favorite memory is the day before we were going on a trip (I cut out the day before) but in that one day I made an unconstructed (unlined jacket) skirt, pants with fly front, boat neck top and half slip. Then I breathed. You are helping me so much to think of sewing again. I used to love it so much. Even covered several pairs of shoes. Not as hard as one would think. I got fabric and patterns for many years from HELEN ENOX and loved that woman but she died, her daughter died and finally the shop went out of business. We no longer have Hancocks and I’m not finding fabric at JOANNE’s that makes my heart rate accelerate. Because of the fabrics you show from online I am almost ready to jump in and try. You are an inspiration.
I like that you use the Big 4 patterns as I don’t want to pay the prices of the indies, so thanks for concentrating on used or on sale ones. I’m getting back into garment sewing and try to sew every day. I love having someone around that lives, eats and breaths sewing. It’s the best. Thank you so much! I didn’t think I was normal with my need for sewing but you make it ok.
Hi Susan👋, thanks for this great message. You will always feel comfortable here with anything sewing related, trust me. I buy tons of fabric and lots of patterns, and I’m often confused by sewing instructions. I learn right along with everyone else. It’s great!🌸👍And I do sew exclusively Big 4, or Big 6 or whatever it comes to with New Look, Kwik Sew and Burda tossed in (I’m very new to Burda.) Hobby Lobby is featuring Simplicity patterns for $1.99 this week, score!! Guess you’ll be seeing a pattern haul soon enough.😄
I realize I only just found this video but oh my goodness the fabric is amazing. The Windom cotton print reminded me of Laugh-In!! Haha. Smiling. Will be checking out metro textiles. I've also ordered from fabric Mart in the past and they are wonderful. Thanks for sharing your goodies with us and your knowledge. Have a good weekend and stay safe.
I am so thrilled to hear that you are a homeschooling mom! I was too! We graduated our youngest in 2015. I have struggled since then to find something "rewarding" for myself now that the kids are all grown. I too learned to sew in middle school and learned some from my grandma. Can you share how you got started making these videos? I sure am enjoying them, thank you!
the stretch and sew patterns are wonderful. I took the classes when they first came out . the suit pattern is wonderful.a lot of work but perfect. the suggestions for shaping the fabric with the iron is different than you are used to. You should try their suggestions they are really different.
I have several Stretch and Sew patterns from back in the day. We lived in the Seattle area in the 90s and there was a fabric store/outlet that carried almost nothing but knits and Stretch and Sew patterns. I was so upset when they closed. But I kept the patterns! I made my daughter swimsuits when she was in elementary school, they were easy and darling!
I would have been upset too, Cynthia! Nice that you still have the patterns. So they were still going strong in the 90’s? That’s amazing! I bet those swimsuits were adorable.😄💕Thanks for writing!
I love stretch and sew patterns I took classes for years and love them cause you can draft a garment that fits you very well there is many updates that you can do you just trace the one that fits your body I had all the patterns that they made untill they went out of business in my area. Then I got sick and my children cleaned out my house and threw away all my sewing pattern and much more but that's another story. Anyway I serviced the cancer and am now living in my own apartment and sewing again love your show.
Oh Viv I am dying here. Lolol. I took a stretch and sew class with my mom when I was in high school. It was in Toledo Ohio. They had a huge studio. I am pretty sure they supplied the sewing machines for classes. Everything was made with double knit polyester fabric, that they sold. We are talking leisure suit time for men. Pantsuits for women. I made everyone in my family, for Christmas 1973 or 1974, a shirt of the same hideous blue and white double knit. I never saw them worn. Lol. Love your video as always, and your fabric haul.
Let’s hear it for Leisure Suits! (Maybe a cheer for the fact that they fizzled out.) My dad had a giant green plaid leisure suit and he thought he was some kind of king in that monstrosity. It makes me laugh just to think of it. It was all the rage!! Thanks for the funny memory, Robin. I love it when you comment!😄👍Stretch and Sew was legit in its day - think of all the studios and sewing machines!!
Fabulous fabrics I love your ideas for them. I’m nearly finished a drape front cardigan I’ve been busy sewing this evening and enjoying your company whilst I sew. But as it’s nearly 11 pm and I’m tired it’s off to bed I don’t want to ruin the finish because I’m in a rush. Thank you for giving me the push to sew garments again I’d forgotten how much fun it is. Xx
Vivmom! I love the dress, it's so cute. I came across this old video. Just to preface - I'm not a stalker, I recently was let go from work and have been watching your videos as I peruse jobs opportunities on linked in! So fun. I'm spending my unemployment sewing and lamenting the work world. I love the vivmom genesis and I'm so impressed with the homeschooling! It's great to learn a little more about you. You're a celebrity to me!!
Hi jackie, I’m so sorry about your job. We know the feeling of being suddenly thrust into a set of circumstances you didn’t see coming. Prayers for your peace of mind and a great opportunity to come your way - it will. In the meantime, you’ve got a great attitude and boy that’s half the battle right there. Sewing is often more than a hobby or past time, it’s a lifesaver! That’s how I’ve come to see it throughout my life and particularly with the shifting sands of kids getting older and moving on. I always say sewing is there like an old friend, and it is! I’m happy you’re here, watch away! Hope to hear more from you.😃Thanks again for writing.
I love your videos! And I especially love your facial expressions!!!! I am slowly working through all your videos and I thoroughly enjoy every single one!
Hi I am from Jamaica and I am watching your show and I don't have one sewing machine as yet but I am learning everything u said and I go to a school that I learn to sew and I love how u talk about the pattern
Fabulous Fabric Mart haul! I think the dress that you are wearing is adorable! I also homeschooled all 4 of my children and I think they turned out fabulous--very successful, each one. I guess that's why we sew so much now--we got the time--lol Have a great time in Florida!
Well that sounds wonderful about your kids, Joanne, congrats.👍Thanks for liking my dress, I wish I hadn’t tossed the pattern. I think I’ll survive though.😄Florida is glorious. I could get used to this. (The Ritz Carlton isn’t too shabby either. It’s nice to tag along on business trips!)
Yes, I think I would tag along also!! Have fun. We have been to Florida a number of times and have enjoyed it. I am always so excited about seeing all of the different foliage--it's just amazing! Enjoy!@@vivmomsews4962
Ohhh I just bought that crazy bright fabric from fabric mart too! I LOVE IT! Not sure what I'm making with it yet, but your idea of a vintage dress is good! It looks very 60'sish. I want to make a bag out of it too. I just sewed up 5 pairs of sweats for grandsons. And now I'm sewing baby leggings for our grand daughter. Hey have you ever tried any of the "Patterns for Pirates"? I may have already asked you that. I love love love how easy and clear their instructions are, and most are easy to customize to a perfect fit. You got me totally addicted to sewing again Viv! LoL My mom gave me a bunch of stretch and sew patterns. I look at them and think "ugghhh" but yet I can't part with them. Weird. Have a great time in Naples! So close to my home town, Ft. Myers. Enjoy those sunsets on the ocean :)
Aw what a sweet grandma you are, Lorraine. And 5 pairs of sweats is no joke! Hats off! I bet the grandkids are precious.💕I can’t believe we bought the same fabric!! Well, yes, I can, because it’s pretty amazing.👍 Vintage dress - or hey, what about pants?! Might be too crazy.🙃I have definitely heard of Patterns for Pirates; I normally stick with Big 4 because I can cut them up and not worry about cost. It’s music to my ears to hear that you’re loving sewing and it sounds like you are crushing it! Go Lorraine!🎊🎉🔥
Hello, glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Couldn't believe you said you brought your family to West Virginia. I'm doing my best to get out and you come here for Holiday. lol I live in a very small town, we don't even have a stop light. lol My husband is from here and I am from Louisville, Ky. We met through friends. I love watching your video's. If I were in a fabric shop I wouldn't even bother to walk up to the prints you just showed us. That's my problem. I can't see it in a garment. I can't wait to see what you make out of your haul. I'm trying to see it. lol Safe travels and catch you in the warmer state.
Hi Dorene👋, we just love Canaan Valley. We’ve been visiting for 20 years now! We started by renting very small pedestal chalets, when we just had our first 2 children. Now we rent big vacation homes to have room for everyone, 3 children and their significant others.😄👍I’m glad you’re intrigued by the prints I choose. I visualize how they’re going to look as a garment and then I run with it. Here’s hoping I find success! Thanks for writing.🌸
How lucky your kids were to have you stay home and also school them! The blue Fabulace print is really pretty. Will be looking to see what you make with that. Wish I could be heading to a warmer place that New England right now. Enjoy Naples!!
Aw, Nomad, thanks so much for this message.😄💕I agree about the pale blue knit - I’m wild for the print. Wish they’d had more, but they have very limited supplies of certain fabrics. I just took what I could get. New England is a marvelous place to be in winter because it does winter right.👍None of this half baked drizzly cold rain - it SNOWS. I love it up there! Used to travel to see friends in Rhode Island when my children were little. Thanks again for being your usual lovely self and writing me such a great note.🌸
Vivmom, I love your videos. I am a 26 year old seamstress and love your pattern and textile choices! Hip and fun, now to convince my mom that pineapple print is for everybody Ha! I turn your videos on when I sew and just let them play in the background. I've seen them all about a dozen times so keep the new vids coming! Sending good vibes your way! -Ash
Well, Ash, you have put a smile on my face from ear to ear. Thank you so much!! I am honored to have younger viewers like you, it means a lot. It’s nice that fashion doesn’t have to drop off into drab or predictable as we age. Be true to yourself, and let your personality shine through. Because you sound like an adorable person.😄💕And get that pineapple fabric from Fabric Mart before they sell out!👍
Oh my goodness! I had forgotten all about my Stretch and Sew Patterns! Those were so popular during the late 70's & early 80's! I took classes on how to measure and fit perfectly with Stretch and Sew! I thought the whole point of having stretch and sew was that ya didn't have to fit! LoL I wonder where those patterns got off too?? I'm going to search the barn, and perhaps I will find them or what is left of them there. I just hope the rats didn't get into them. Yikes!! Maybe I should search eBay instead! Thanks for bringing back great memories with theses patterns, Viv! Love your great finds!
Hi Viv, yes I am loving that knit a lot myself. I wish there were more than 1 yard but I’ll take it. Maybe a little summer tee...hmm...I’m thinking a flounce might be nice...no, maybe too cutesy for this fabric. Decisions decisions. Best part of sewing! (No, not even.) ok I’ll be quiet now!😄👍Great to see you here!🌸
Good to hear from you! That vintage dress you are wearing is so cute! Of course I cannot wait to see what you sew with all the fabric you just bought. Love you sharing your family with us. So happy to hear of Levi getting another chance at the good life. We also took in 2 rescue dogs. It's a little work, but so worth it! Hugs to Levi! Xx oo! Safe travels Vivmom!
Well, Jo Marie, I’m not surprised in the least that you rescue animals - you’re a kind person and that is evident from everything you write, your thoughts and observations, your generosity. Thank you for being part of this channel and for always giving me a smile.😄💕
Hi Vivmom, Joy was the first sewing lady I subscribed to when I got my IPad , 3 years ago ,and now you’re another of my favorites, with both of you I feel like lm talking to friends who share the same love of fabric and patterns . Love your videos!!
Hello marina and thanks so much!😄💕There is no shortage of love for fabric and patterns around here. You probably gathered that. How do you like your iPad? My MIL loves hers and she likes using a stylus. Anyway, I’m happy you’re here and that you enjoy all the sewing talk like I do!👍
Thank you, Lorna, I am tickled that you’re enjoying the channel. If you had asked me earlier this year if I’d have a TH-cam channel with all these marvelous sewing pals, I would have found it amazing. And I do!! I really appreciate your support. Thanks for writing!😄💕
Another wonderful visit with you Vivmom! Those Stretch & Sew patterns are fun. I found two at a thrift store a while ago that had about 10 patterns each in them. Fortunately for me - no mens vests among them - ugg - I guess in their time they were something - I don't know what - but something... Thanks for sharing your haul and enjoy your time in the sun - I look forward to some beach views! Safe travels - Becky
Hi Becky👋, thanks for writing!🌸💕You’re making me laugh about that Stretch & Sew vest pattern. What a hoot! Could it be any shorter?! I am really warming to the idea of a knit blazer, though. And the cardigans are timeless. Not sure about the lapels on the men’s jackets. Your Stretch & Sew score sounds pretty amazing! Wow!🎉🎊
Viv, do you really need more patterns :-D YES of course you do, you made me giggle again. I'm trying not to buy too much fabric (I bought more last week though) so I love to see what you get in your hauls. Enjoy your break in the sunshine, its very cold and windy in Yorkshire (UK) where we are so not jealous at all.......xx
Yes, I decree that we ALL need more patterns, Gaynor. There was discussion over at Pattern Review about Butterick being late with their winter/holiday release, and the lack of recent sales. Maybe things are shifting at Big 4?? I hope they don’t decide to discontinue the $1.99 or .99 sales - but listen to me. I have enough patterns to last until the cows come home. I’ll be interested to see what happens. As always, thanks for ringing in!😄💕
@@vivmomsews4962 Yes, I think things must be shifting for the big 4 with all the new Indie patterns emerging. I'm not a bit fan of Butterick/Burda/ Mccalls I find Simplicity/Newlook/Kwiksew better for me and really like the way that Indie patterns are put together. x
Love that your dress matches the painting behind you! You look stunning! Very nice to rescue Levi!! All my kitties are rescues! Awww good for you staying home with your kids ! What a blessing! Please take care and don't run your sewing needle into a nub (giggle ) Peace, love and light p.s. make a shawl out of that brown knit..gorgeous ! I really gotta watch the whole video before commenting..lol
Love the dress your wearing.. super cute.. [wonder why, we always throw away those patterns, only to discover, we really like the dress.lol I do this all too frequently.ha] I love your explanation of your vivmom name.. It is perfect. My kids are all grown too, and I loved the time I spent with them.. It is something, we can never get back.. You are special. Hope you have a wonderful trip to Florida..[I must admit, I am a little jealous. smile.]
Aw judy, so sweet. Thank you. I’m kicking myself for tossing the Vogue dress pattern but for heaven’s sake, I have 800 more. (Well, slight exaggeration!)😄I so agree with you about time spent with our kids. We didn’t know the years would go so quickly, did we? Makes me a little sad! You’re so dear to say that I am special.💕Florida has been a marvel - I can’t get over that I was sitting on the beach today in full sun while my husband was in cold and gloom back home. I need to get on the ball with Christmas; how can it be December?!🎄
I understand the "800" patterns.. Me too... I tell my kids all the time, I could live to be 100, and never sew ALL these patterns.. Their response, " why , do you keep buying them?" Oh my... what fun it is.. If only to look at. lol So happy your enjoying Florida... sorry to hear you have a cold [ have watched your Florida post]. Cute patterns and fabric.. You really need your sewing machine in that hotel room.. smile. Be safe, and enjoy your warm weather.
Hey Vivmom Love your dress and your haul. The story about your channel name is adorable. LOVE, LOVE that you will be in Naples. It would be fun to connect at Joanne's. It is cold here. We are going into the 40's tonight. Weather should be warm when you come.
How could we meet up?? Email me at gramcan@juno.com and perhaps if the planets align we could bump into each other at Joann! I am tagging along on my daughter’s business trip so I’m not sure how much access to the car I will have. If it doesn’t work out, know that I totally appreciate your enthusiasm and always-kind notes, Carmen!😄👍
Hi vivmom' I'm here as Joy Bernhardt mentioned you on her site. Wow I can see why she wants to make dresses now! You look absolutely gorgeous in them and your fabric choices are what make them. Some of those prints I would have walked right by, but when I see them made up on your vintage dresses..... All I can say is WOW. You and Joy truly have a gift for picking just the best fabrics!..... I will be following you too. Have a relaxed and peaceful vacation in sunny florida!!
Love your videos! They always get me in the mood to sew. You mentioned the Simplicity patterns for 1.99 with a limit of 10 and wanted to let you know I was in Hobby Lobby yesterday and the sale is going on now. I was so excited to get 10 patterns for that price!
Hey Viv, good to see you as always! Love the Wyndham fabric, very Viv vibe! You are cracking me up “ I need more patterns!” Enjoy your trip to Naples, glad you are getting to enjoy the warm weather soon. Here in Texas when we want different weather, we just wait five minutes and then we get it, hehe. P.S. I need my head examined too!
Hi Julie👋, thanks for this fun message! I wish FM would get in some more Windham cottons, the quality is very nice. And yes - that fabric is very Viv, especially when it will get sewn into a 1960’s dress!👗Where are you in TX? We have family in Houston and Austin, though we don’t get down there too often.
Wish we lived closer so I could have your scraps for doll clothes. My etsy store supports my private yorkie dog rescue. I sell the doll clothes to pay the vet bills. So thanks for rescuing levi.
Oh Cherry, I would love to give you my scraps! Do you have a good source? And bless you for your yorkie dog rescue services. We need more wonderful, compassionate people like you in this cold old world!😄💕Levi melts my heart. He has issues but he’s really coming along, and they are taking excellent care of him.
Wish you could be, Cynthia!🌴It’s beautiful. I’m going to have a hard time switching gears into Christmas when I get home, whoa. Thank you for your kind note!😄👍
Awww.... that's the best reason ever for calling your channel that name 💝. I hope I'm a friend enough to call you Viv 😉. That vintage style cotton is gorgeous and I can definitely see a lovely vintage dress appearing soon 😁. Great haul there and I'm sure you'll have some fantastic things sewn up in no time knowing you 😉. Happy sewing Viv 👍😘
So glad you and Joy have found each other. I saw that she had mentioned you. Peas in a pod... You both have so much to share. I love all those old patterns, and that 60s fabric, with all the little designs on it. I'd certainly put one of those patterns together with that fabric. Nice haul. Thanks for sharing it.
Hi Lynn!👋I think Joy’s sewing knowledge could run circles around mine, but you’re a dear to say I have much to share. Thank you!😄 Yes, I am totally on board with a 60’s dress out of the quirky cotton print. Match made in heaven! Hopefully it’ll turn out - sometimes these things can miss and then it’s a bit disappointing. I’ll think positive!🌸Thanks for writing!
I have a stretch N sew pattern, it was a great find, I found it on Etsy. I LOVE that Knit Blazer pattern, that looks really nice! That would make a great vintage dress! Great haul as usual, you know I love some prints! How cool that they sent you some zippers. Have a great time in Naples!
Hi Natieda!👋 Yes! The idea of a knit blazer is really growing on me. Fabric Mart ponte, here I come! And isn’t that Windham cotton something else?! Who comes up with these prints and color combos? Whoever it is, I’m a fan. The more color the better, I say. I know that you’re partial to purple.💐👍Oh, and I’m so excited about my zippers!😄Thanks for the happy travel wishes.
just discovered your videos as I try to get inspired to try Simplicity #8657, a short caftan for an upcoming cruise. I have not followed or even cut a pattern in many years.... yikes! Your videos are so amazing- you are so talented! Am going to go look for one that you might have made about cutting your patterns.....
Thanks so much, pam! Welcome!😄👍It was sunny and 80’s today so I’m pretty much in heaven. And I just found out Hobby Lobby has Simplicity patterns on sale this week for $1.99. Pardon me while I peel out!💨
I was missing you and then I found you tonight!! Hope you have a great trip to Naples and I look forward to your videos from there (LOVE Florida!!) Always feels like I have visited with an old friend! Will be waiting for your next video!
Hi Mary, and right back at ya!😄👍I love chatting with everyone and it just feels comfortable. And we all love fabrics and patterns, so what could be better?!💕Thanks for the great-trip wishes, I hope to report in from the beach.😎You write such nice things to me.
Hi darling Rahayu!👋Thanks for making me smile like you always do. I hope I have something of value to say from Florida...maybe I can scare up some patterns or fabric from Joann down there. I’ll make that sacrifice for the channel.🤣
Hi Viv, You made me smile as you began to show us your Fabric Mart stuff. The first cotton lawn that you held up is one that I got a couple of weeks ago. I made the asymmetrical top from HotPatterns #1111. All I have left to do is the buttonholes and buttons. I bought 5 pieces of their cotton lawn and LOVE them all.
Wooo hoooo! I love what you’ve done with that lawn, Jane!🎉🎊🎈Thanks so much for telling me! It feels like a beautiful cotton, so crisp yet soft, and the muted purples are sooo pretty. Can I see your shirt on Instagram perhaps? Would love to take a peek!👍
Thanks for explaining the Vivmom....yes some days I think I need my head examined too. I am sitting here in a tan knit top like you rib knit..like the fabric... I've got so much on my plate no seeing until after the holidays....the probably for the grands..matching clothes for the dolls too. Do like your dress...had a similar pattern at one time .looking forward to your next video...we have sun here but it isn't warm.
Hi Gale👋, great message, thank you! I’m glad to hear you like the rib knit; I think it’ll actually be plenty warm despite being on the thin side. December is a tough month for squeezing in sewing, and I doubt I’ll be able to do it.🌸But come January - yes indeed! I’m also glad to hear you have sun. I’ll sit on the beach in 30 degrees, I don’t mind. But it’s going to warm up, I just know it!😎
Hi Vivvy, I was so happy and excited to see your beautiful face in my feed. I am loving your outfit of the day🤣. I will most definitely be visiting those Esty shop's to see what goodies I can find. Love the story about your channel name. I am homeschooling our only daughter she is 9 years old and in the 5th grade and I enjoy spending that time with her. My husband and I have been married for 23 years and still going strong. I will be turning the big 50 on February 2nd! Any hoo, I must go on eBay and see if I can find those Stretch and Sew patterns. I have never heard of that company. I just bought a few sewing magiznes that came with free patterns in the package and inside of the magazines too. I bought them at Joann's. OMG! I was like wow look at all of these free wonderful patterns. They are called Sew Style Vintage, Sew Style Stitch your Look, Sew Style Quick and Easy, Sew Magazine, How to Sew, and La Maison Victor. They are UK Magazine's but the patterns are Simplicity. They are a little pricey $19.99 each and the Victor was $12.99. They are well worth the price because of all of the free patterns. I hope you all have a wonderful time in Florida and see you on your next video. 😘
Oh Kris, you made my day. Your note is just so sweet and I love hearing about your daughter! She’s got a precious mom!😄💐Thank you for saying all the wonderful things you say to me. Gosh, so nice. Now - about those patterns in the magazines...zounds!!😳You hit the jackpot! I’m going to try and get to the Joann in Naples and I will have to look for those.👍Stretch & Sew are old patterns; their heyday was back in the 70’s and early 80’s. I haven’t sewn one of them yet, they’re printed on thick paper on both sides so I’m going to have to trace. If the world reverses rotation one day, that’ll be me tracing. (I’m being dramatic again.)🤣I hope that your home schooling adventures are fruitful, and it’s just fabulous that you’re turning 50! It sounds like you have a beautiful family.
Happy to see you 😊 Gorgeous fabrics! You're very fortunate to home school your children. Great mom! 💐💐💐 I wanted to do it but I couldn't so I really admire you!!! Vivmom " I think I need my head examine" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm guilty of that, every time when I see fabrics and patterns I must buy it . But thank the Lord I'm not the only one. I like the dress, it looks super comfi and you look nice in it I'm expecting to see 2 duster as you promise. Have fun in nice sunny Florida While the rest of us are in frigid temperatures😊
Aw, you sweetheart...don’t admire me too much. It was a good fit for our family and I didn’t know what I was doing most of the time. Laughter played the biggest part, thank God. And my children still speak to me, so that’s good.👍Fabrics & Patterns: our bread and butter. (Mmmm, bread and butter😋) I am so over the moon to have found a group of people who love fabric and patterns as much as I do. Thank you for being here, for always being a ray of sunshine, for writing to me, and for making me feel great!💕
Yes, yes & yes to all that you’ve said, Laura. But I don’t know what to make with the plum suiting...hmmm....I am enjoying Florida immensely, we arrived on Saturday to sunny skies. Yes! (This reply is all yes, isn’t it?!😄)
Love all your fabrics! Those patterns are interesting and so big. You give me something to look forward to, all the cute things you will be making! You made me laugh when you said Hobby Lobby has a sale on patterns and you need some! LOL
Hi Diane👋, yes - aren’t those patterns huge?! Aww, thank you for saying I’ll be making cute things. You’re so kind.💕Hobby Lobby hasn’t run a pattern sale in waaaay too long (probably a couple weeks, lol). The world may be telling me “Enough with the patterns! Be content with what you’ve got!” Then again, I certainly hope not.
Viv, I am totally digging the knitwear patterns, they had some flair going on in the 70's, didn't they! I actually have a store bought blazer that is made out of a sweatshirt jersey and I love that thing, it looks really cool. So, they may have something there! Great fabrics from Fabric Mart, now I am going to have to go check out the etsy shop too! I hope you have a blast in Florida and I will be hunkered down here in the cold living vicariously through you!
Yes! A knit blazer actually does sound kind of awesome. I’ll have to pick up some of that nice quality rayon/nylon/Lycra ponte from FM. Any excuse to go shopping at FM is fine with me. I tried to find Fabulace in the search bar on Etsy and nothing came up. What the?? I hope everyone can find it. (Maybe it’s the world telling me to cease and desist with the fabric buying already.)👊Always happy to see you pop up, you know. Thanks bud!!😄💕
You homeschooled 3 children? That is the ultimate mom! Vivmom is perfect for you. No wonder they are such wonderful kids! Enjoy your holiday. Look forward to your sharing because I agree...you have a void in your available patterns and fabric...lol.
Awww, this is so kind, HiLuvs. Really, I’m bowled over. I am nowhere near being the ultimate mom, but you’re a sweetheart for saying that.😄💕Thank you. I’m so excited about my trip with my daughter. She can bring a guest along on her business trip and she picked me! We are going to have a ball. I don’t think I’ve ever left home for a week without husband and kids, but husband and son will be “back at the ranch” without me. I cooked and left them menus for the week. This way I’m footloose and fancy free...Naples Joann, here I come!😄👍
@@vivmomsews4962 Having your daughter select you as her guest is a testament to you. You're even taking care of those back at the ranch! I think that's pretty ultimate!
What a pretty setting for you to get together with your family. Love the mountains of our state. I live on the western side of WV. I really need to check out fabric mart. You seem to get good deals.
We discovered Canaan Valley in 1998, and just celebrated our 20th year of vacationing there! (We got some special cupcakes and had a toast over Thanksgiving.😄) Your state is beautiful, Regina! And such happy memories we have of time in the mountains. I encourage you to visit fabricmartfabrics.com but know this! You’ll find lots of fabric that you love!😄🌸
Thanks, Teri, and you’re right. I’m warming to the idea of a blazer in a knit. I mean, why not? I think it might be iffy finding the right knit for men, but quality ponte for women is a win.😄👍
Stretch & Sew is iconic for a certain time in sewing history. My mother-in-law has a stack of Stretch & Sew patterns and talks fondly of taking the classes. It was a fun thing to do, and made sewing with those unfamiliar polyesters less intimidating. They struck at the perfect time and produced a quality product. I’m very interested to sew one up! Thanks for writing, Kathy!😄🌸
When you showed the blue and orange knit I thought “dang it Viv, now there will be a run on that, and I have it in my cart!”. I actually had a 2 yard piece, and I ordered it immediately! I have it cut in a tunic, Hope to sew it tonight. I have been reorganizing my sew room, so I have to put things back in order before I can sew. I got several things from Fabulace. When I first opened my package I had buyer’s remorse, but upon matching the photos to fabrics, I found things did actually match up, except one the colors were a bit different. But the fabrics were a very good value. I got two of those lace inserts like you see on the back of ready to wear, I have never seen them for sale anywhere. One is purple and green, really beautiful, the other is apricot, more of a casual look. Once I sew up some, I will buy more. Oh, I got a light gray sweater knit, just one yard, but I was able to get a long sleeve tunic by piecing the sleeve.
Girl, you’re killin’ it! A long sleeve tunic out of 1 yard of fabric?! Fabulous. I forgot about Fabulace! (That should tell you how much fabric I buy, i.e., too much.) I just reordered from High End Fabrics on Etsy to get more of that rayon gabardine that I made the brown floral Vogue dress with. (I had thought it was denim. Nope. Rayon gabardine. Great stuff!) Oh, and that blue and orange floral knit is so gorgeous!! You have 2 yards!! You’ll be a wizard with that much!😄👍
Vivmom Sews I bought a knit linen from high end fabrics, it is so soft after I washed it. I think hubby will get a nice T-shirts out of that. Buying fabric is absolutely addictive, the creative process of picturing it made up, etc. I have never bought sweater knit till this year. I have mixed feelings, it is so stretchy and I am having to learn how to manage sewing it. But what is a better way to spend a nasty winter day than sewing? 😀
Hello there, lovely to see you. Glad to see your fabric haul. Loved the fir tree and potential duster. That purple would make the most fab trousers suite. Like a Spanish bullfighter style or cut. Lol I don't know what that style is called. All beautiful. Have a lovely time. Enjoy your sewing and above all, please be Happy. God bless and keep you glad you had a lovely Thanksgiving x
Thank you, Miss Mary H, you’re a dear.💕Isn’t that fir tree fabric glorious?! It makes me happy! Well, I think almost all fabric makes me happy these days. I just like looking at it. Let alone sewing it!😄You are so very sweet to wish me happiness and a good trip. Hugs to you!🌸
Hi christine👋, those days flew past didn’t they?! I miss the happy cacophony of kids in the house but Lord knows I don’t have the energy these days. Colin is a senior in high school and nearly self sufficient with his studies - yay! Congratulations on teaching your children!🎊🎉😄👍
Hi Viv! I don’t know why Inlike looking at your fabric selections, BUT I DO! I can’t wait to start sewing AFTER MY WEDDING ON DEC 9!!!! Yes, decided on the plum dress, chiffon plated skirt with lining. My alterations lady is charging me $100 to hem it, but that’s ok! Wish I could send a pic! Good to see you! Glad you had a good Thanksgiving.
That’ll be the best $100 you ever spent, Vicky. (Well, I guess I’m exaggerating, but truly - hemming a wedding dress is a feat!) Congratulations, the dress sounds gorgeous. Your wedding is just around the corner and I am sending you the happiest wishes for a joyful day and marriage! Yay!!🎊🎉🌸💕
Thank you nana. I am accompanying my daughter on her business trip and we get to stay in the Ritz Carlton! Wooo hoo, I’m so excited. I promise to stay safe!😄👍🌸
Your choice of patterns seem to enhance your figure and fit you perfectly. You don't seem to need to make too many adjustments to patterns. This is such a time-saving inspiration! I'd like to see a video that condenses your thoughts on how to pick the correct pattern for your body type. Such as why you would choose a certain neckline, sleeve, hemline or silhouette. Such as what you thought would be the most enhancing qualities about the fit of certain patterns. Garments don't need to be made. Just a video displaying certain patterns that you find to be the most classic, timeless and fool-proof for most body types. This general knowledge would be very valuable to your audience. As we age, we lose our waistline. This seems to be the most endearing quality of your choice of patterns. Just by choosing certain patterns, you'd never know that you have an expanding waistline, which is probably the most common problem for women. Thanks again for your astute knowledge, ingenuity and brilliance! Your clever, intuitive and discerning perception is wise and insightful.
Ah Diane, you write beautifully, and you have given me much to think about. I believe that your suggestion for “content” in a video is a great one. I don’t sew muslins (test garments) and I don’t sew tailored things because frankly, I just want comfortable, flattering clothes that are not complicated. I’m at a point in my life where my pace of living has slowed down and taken on a mostly predictable rhythm, as opposed to the hubbub of child rearing, teaching and running my home. Having time for sewing is a luxury that I don’t take for granted. I’m also a believer that we don’t have to default to losing our shapes with the advent (and aftermath) of menopause. But it’s a battle, baby! I’m still going to choose clothes that feel good on me. Plus I just like loose and shapeless. Not everyone does. At any rate, thanks for your thoughts and encouragement. Much appreciated!!🌺
Oh the pucker knit would be darling in an infinity scarf, Lynn! Fabulous idea. Wonder if I can get a duster and a scarf out of it...? Thanks for the inspiration!😄🌸
I learned of your channel from "The Cursing Seamstress" although she never curses so I'm curious about the name. I'm grateful for the information and really enjoy your videos. Wow! You do an amazing amount of garments.
Hi Kathy!👋I’m with you on the curiosity of the Cursing Seamstress’ channel name.😂She was awfully nice to mention me! Thanks so much for coming over!💕🌸I’m not always churning out a lot of garments; December will be decidedly light between travel and Christmas. Maybe I can knock some things out in January. I still have that wool coat to make that I’ve been avoiding. I got out the wool and brought it down to the sewing table. Ha, big progress.😄
Hi Viv, another lovely video... great to hear a bit more about your life and how you named your channel. There is someone on here called 'Jessalli' and I assumed her name was Jess but its actually Sophia! so I know you can never assume someone's username is their actual name, though I was pretty certain in your case. Would be hilarious if your name was actually Diane or something!! heehee... some great fabrics, you always find such lovely pieces!!!! I do wish we had more fabric shops like you guys but I guess we cannot complain!!! x
Hi Claire, lovely to see you as always.🌸Yes, it would be funny if I were named something completely different from Viv, but you’re right - it happens. I wondered why Barbara’s channel is called Sewing Janey, and then she said Janey is her middle name. Aha! Anyway, thanks so much for complimenting the fabric. Fabric Mart makes it easy (a little too easy) to get great stuff. Do they ship to Britain? I guess the cost would be prohibitively high.👎 But you get beautiful fabrics as well!!
Hi Viv, Nice to see you. Thanks for the Etsy link, I'm going to check it out! I do hope you had a Lovely Thanksgiving! Sounds like you did. :) Can't wait to see your creations with the new patterns and fabric. OMIGOODNESS Viv, Guess where I was at 6AM Black Friday!? 3 towns over from where I live only because it's the Biggest JoAnne's in the area. 3 hours later and a carload of fabric I was on my way home!! That's not all I also went a teenie tiny bit crazy at JoAnne's online over the weekend too...but c'mon 70% off fleece, 75% off remnants. etc. etc. I really didn't tell my husband about all that....but he get's it, every time he's opened the door over the past several days he's tripping over boxes. (I should really make him something) ; ) Okay Viv, We'll see you soon.
Yes, yes, make him something! That tends to soften the blow. And distract them from the boxes of fabric rolling in!!😄👍You did so well on your Fabric Sales Sleuthing and it sounds like you hit the jackpot with fleece and remnants. Wow!! Let me know what you’re going to sew first. I’m inspired just reading about all that fabric, R!!🎊🎉
@@vivmomsews4962 Hey Viv, I've already made something fun with one of my remnant finds! So I found this Bright Teal faux fur at JoAnne's. It was fun looking and I knew my daughter would LOVE it. I made her a long vest with a drawstring waist lined with teal fleece. I added pockets on the outside. The cool part about that is when the vest is fluffed out the pockets are invisible. She LOVES it and has worn it twice this week to school. She hides her Pokemon cards in her pocket. :) Too Fun!!
My sister-in-law and I took a class in stretch and sew. They had their own store here in NE Ohio. All patterns have to be made with knits. This was back in the early 80s. 😊
I'm binge watching your videos... I remember my Mom sewing Stretch n Sew patterns. (I'm 50 now...)
Thank you!
Aww how sweet! Thanks for being here Cindy!😄
Love that you are/were into being a mom. It is truly the MOST important assignment we ever take on.
I love the dress your wearing!❤
Love how your top matches the painting behind you ! Love all your videos!!!!
My favorite memory is the day before we were going on a trip
(I cut out the day before) but in that one day I made an unconstructed (unlined jacket) skirt, pants with fly front, boat neck top and half slip.
I love the dress you are wearing. Very Autumnal.
You are hilarious, you put a smile on my face
Fabulous fabrics I love your ideas for them. I’m nearly finished a drape front cardigan I’ve been busy sewing this evening and enjoying your company whilst I sew. But as it’s nearly 11 pm and I’m tired it’s off to bed I don’t want to ruin the finish because I’m in a rush. Thank you for giving me the push to sew garments again I’d forgotten how much fun it is. Xx
I get so excited when you post videos!
Aw, what a gracious thing to say to me, TTT! You’re a sweetheart. Thank you.😄💕
I love Joy she is funny and smart and amazing.
Hope you have a safe trip see you when you get or I should say see you when you get where you’re going! 🤗
@@vivmomsews4962 Thanks for your note. You're a doll. Keep smiling!!!
I love Stretch and sew!!! I didn't know you could still find them!! They are a dream to sew and easy!!
I love your videos! And I especially love your facial expressions!!!! I am slowly working through all your videos and I thoroughly enjoy every single one!
Thank you, Jennifer! You’re so nice to leave me this wonderful feedback.💕
Hi I am from Jamaica and I am watching your show and I don't have one sewing machine as yet but I am learning everything u said and I go to a school that I learn to sew and I love how u talk about the pattern
I have almost all those patterns. I took all the classes and have the teaching books that go with them. You will enjoy them.
Wow, Stretch and Sew! You have been taking me back to life with my mom.
Hi Wendy👋, so nice to hear this! I hope your memories of Stretch and Sew patterns are happy ones.😄
Lol, you have me in stitches...... All that fabric! We must be related and separated by the pond. You go girl!
Oh honey, there’s always more...always more. Ain’t life grand?! Thanks for your greetings and cheer from across the pond, Jenni!😄💕
LoL
My mom gave me a bunch of stretch and sew patterns.
LOL Love those design elements ...They give things character..Especially quilts or crocheting
Yes ma’am!😄👍
The light blue floral is stunning, can’t wait to see what you create!
(No, not even.) ok I’ll be quiet now!😄👍Great to see you here!🌸
Love ya Viv! Have fun in Florida😎🙋
Thank you, Debbie! Right back at ya!😄💕
Anyway, I’m happy you’re here and that you enjoy all the sewing talk like I do!👍
Love that dress. Great pattern on the fabric. Beautiful neckline for you.
I love the fabrics. I have watch Joy for years. I have learned so much from her.
Hi Brigitte👋, nice to see you! Thanks so much for loving the fabrics...always a good thing to hear!😄🌸
Love your TH-cam blogs! Can’t wait to see on the beach vlog!! Enjoy 😘👍
You’re an absolute dearheart, Anneliese. Thanks for all of these generous, kind words! Always love it when you stop by.😄👍
It does match the picture...you are very observant!
Love the dress your wearing.. super cute.. [wonder why, we always throw away those patterns, only to discover, we really like the dress.lol I do this all too frequently.ha]
I love your explanation of your vivmom name..
Great to see you!!! That wild color fabric .. I just love it... Have a safe trip lovely lady.. See ya on the beach.. 😊😊😊😊
Oh yes indeed, my friend, I’m going to report in from the beach. Can’t wait! So glad to hear from Peppy Pamela who makes me smile!😄💕
Hahaha......your so delightful! See you in maples Florida!!😜
Thank you, Cindy, you’re pretty delightful yourself!😄👍
I homeschooled my 4 children. It was challenging at times but so rewarding. I enjoyed watching. You got some good prices on your fabric. Very nice.
Love a good fabric deal, don’t we?! Congrats on teaching your children, Barbara!😄👍
@@vivmomsews4962 Hey there, we are North of Houston in Humble. Would love to see you if you are in the area! You are always welcome!
@@vivmomsews4962 yes I do get a lot of fabrics from various sources, much more than I can use.
Great buys! Have a fab time in Florida xx
Hello Kathie👋, many thanks!!💕
Glad your back and look forward to pretending I’m on the beach too! Happy shopping🏖
Heck yes you can call me Viv! I insist. And thank you for your always-kind, always-classy remarks. You’re a joy, Sally.😄💕
I know that you’re partial to purple.💐👍Oh, and I’m so excited about my zippers!😄Thanks for the happy travel wishes.
ooo a new one on Etsy...lol love Etsy...Lace beauty is my favorite of all time....Gorgeous lace.
Thanks C!😄
just discovered your videos as I try to get inspired to try Simplicity #8657, a short caftan for an upcoming cruise. I have not followed or even cut a pattern in many years.... yikes! Your videos are so amazing- you are so talented! Am going to go look for one that you might have made about cutting your patterns.....
I’m from Joy’s channel. She’s right you are wonderful. Enjoyed your video. New subbie. Enjoy the beach. Oh how I wish I was there. Take care.
Thanks so much, pam! Welcome!😄👍It was sunny and 80’s today so I’m pretty much in heaven. And I just found out Hobby Lobby has Simplicity patterns on sale this week for $1.99. Pardon me while I peel out!💨
Vivmom Sews Lol. Hope you found plenty of patterns. Enjoy the sunny weather. Going to be in the 30-40’s here in Tennessee. I’m jealous!!! Ha
Viv, you make some smile (actually I laughed a couple of times too) you're so entertaining!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Judy
My pleasure, Judy. I couldn’t ask for a nicer bunch of sewing pals.😄💕
YEAY!! I cant wait for your vlog from Florida. I've always enjoyed your videos. You always made me laugh and giggle.Thank you for sharing Vivmom! 😘
Hi darling Rahayu!👋Thanks for making me smile like you always do. I hope I have something of value to say from Florida...maybe I can scare up some patterns or fabric from Joann down there. I’ll make that sacrifice for the channel.🤣
Hi Viv,
You made me smile as you began to show us your Fabric Mart stuff.
Do like your dress...had a similar pattern at one time
.looking forward to your next video...we have sun here but it isn't warm.
Happy to see you 😊
Gorgeous fabrics! You're very fortunate to home school your children. Great mom! 💐💐💐
I wanted to do it but I couldn't so I really admire you!!!
Vivmom " I think I need my head examine" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm guilty of that, every time when I see fabrics and patterns I must buy it .
Thank you for being here, for always being a ray of sunshine, for writing to me, and for making me feel great!💕
Great fabric haul! Love the Windham cotton-it's fabulous! The plum suiting is beautiful. Enjoy your trip to Florida.😊
Yes, yes & yes to all that you’ve said, Laura. But I don’t know what to make with the plum suiting...hmmm....I am enjoying Florida immensely, we arrived on Saturday to sunny skies. Yes! (This reply is all yes, isn’t it?!😄)
Hi Viv. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and even more wonderful New Year.
Thanks Carol, right back at ya!!
I loved hearing about how much your children mean to you! I was homeschooled, and am so thankful my mom made that decision too ❤️
Aw, so sweet Tuskenknits. Your mom has a beautiful daughter.😄💕
@@vivmomsews4962 sounds like fabric mart could be dangerous for my bank account. Lol
Bless you for being such a good mom... not everyone can do that job well!
Oh my, you give me too much credit. Thank you 1tribble. I appreciate all the kind and wonderful things you’ve written to me. You’re a treasure.😄💕
You are most welcome! @@vivmomsews4962
Congrats on your win. I think the blazer would be great in a good ponte
Thanks, Teri, and you’re right. I’m warming to the idea of a blazer in a knit. I mean, why not? I think it might be iffy finding the right knit for men, but quality ponte for women is a win.😄👍
They used to come into your house and give classes like a Tupperware party!!! 70's revisit👏👏💃
Oh wow! I didn’t know they made house calls. That is so cool. Thanks for writing, Cindy!😃
love joy and like your videos and like power tools with thread too all ya'll got very good youtube videos
hi Viv, what an unexpected treat to see you in my notifications today! Always lovely to see you and your hauls. Have a great time in Florida
Aw kaz, you’re the best. Thank you! I’ll be seeing you from Florida.😎👍
I loved stretch and sew, made many things for myself and four kids, love those prices
Love ya vivmom! Lotsa fun stuffs - thanks for sharing! xo
You are so welcome, and love ya right back elizzievb!😄💕
I love the material of your dress.
Thanks, Leslie!😃
Yay Levi! Love that dress and the fabric!!!!
Yay Levi indeed!🐶Thanks 1tribble.😄💕Oh and thank you for liking the dress. Doesn’t it figure I tossed the pattern?! It’s kind of a rare one, too.
I did a search for it yesterday and found it on Etsy and when I went back to find it today it was gone! @@vivmomsews4962

Yay!!🎊🎉🌸💕
Have a wonderful trip. Stay safe.
@@vivmomsews4962 Exactly! Simple, flattering comfort. That says it all!
Dress reminds me of the 70's! And Love the tan knit. I am looking for something to make infinity scarves for Christmas gifts.
Oh the pucker knit would be darling in an infinity scarf, Lynn! Fabulous idea. Wonder if I can get a duster and a scarf out of it...? Thanks for the inspiration!😄🌸
I homeschool. 12 kids (one passed away as an infant), my last graduates this year. Started homeschooling in 1984.

@@vivmomsews4962 Ooh! I have 🙂
I learned of your channel from "The Cursing Seamstress" although she never curses so I'm curious about the name.
Enjoy your vacation in Florida! Snowing and cold in Minnesota! Brrrrrr......
Thanks Connie! Stay warm!😄💕
