Every once in a while, developers have to return to the origins of a franchise to re-evaluate how it appeals to all players. The fifth generation of Pokemon is a great instance of how this can be done well, so let's figure out what makes Pokemon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 a great set of games.

After the video I realized you haven't even mentioned the pokemon world tournament! Its a testament of how much content there is in these games! I love gen 5 so much.

I'll just say it, Pokemon Black and White is my favorite mainline Pokemon game. I know it has its problems, but after Gen 4 nearly made me lose interest in Pokemon, Black and White got me right back into it, to the point where it's the last mainline Pokemon game I bothered to finish. I believe there are two factors for what got me re-invested; one was that for most of the game, it was entirely new Pokemon. This felt like a breath of fresh air, with exclusively new Pokemon (at least at first), it recaptured the feeling I had of not knowing what Pokemon I'd see, which made it especially interesting visiting caves since I knew I wouldn't be swamped with Zubats and Geodudes. Second is the game's story, which was the only time I felt truly invested in what the antagonists were up to. I do like that Team Plasma is essentially the PETA of Pokemon, advocating for Pokemon rights while at the same time being massive self-serving hypocrites, though N is a true believer at least. It is weird how it handles the moralizing, since the focus is less on whether or not it's right to battle Pokemon and whatnot, but rather on differing opinions and ideologies. I guess Game Freak and the Pokemon Company don't want players thinking TOO deeply about the moral implications of what is essentially forcing animals to fight. Still, really love these games, plus Golurk is my second favorite Pokemon of all time.

Gen 5 really was a breath of fresh air. While I honestly found the region of Unova itself kind of forgettable, I really enjoyed all the changes made to the gameplay, the polish, and the story. The twist at the end of the first game was really mind-blowing for a long time Pokemon fan.

phew, I was SO hyped for B/W that I downloaded the Rom before releaase. However I ran through it until I got to the league, when I burned out of having fun. Which sadly was when the games released, so I never bought nor finished them :O
Probably if they ever remake this, it will be the first and only remake that I would really need. (however I LOVE they finally did gen 4 and how it looks)

I disagree strongly with the games being "polished", the graphics were a major downgrade form the other DS games
