I haven't seen the full flick in years, but the darned thing sure holds up. It's startling to see how dated and naive the 80's look now, but the themes of the movie have only gained more resonance over the years.

This movie was super-stylized and self-consciously naive, though - the naivety was played up, but admittedly in a way that itself at least appears to be naive. That is, crafting a movie so as to appear as if one is naive in their execution of knowingly exaggerating their own naivety. This breaks my brain a little.

This… this is the 1980’s in it’s purest visual AND audio form as I’ve ever experienced… I grew up listening to these guys as my parents played some their stuff, always their Top 40 stuff, no deep cuts… I just now discovered True Stories, the album AND film, and my sister and I cannot believe we are both almost 40 years old and just now getting to this… *sigh* this album has lived on repeat for days now…

Be aware that True Stories (the entire movie) is very addictive.

fun fact: the "chocolate" the band is shown to be covered in is actually a liquid used for oil refining. David byrne was told it was safe to use so he did.

I freakin loved this movie. It was so goddamn creative. Really quirky, which I love, very obtusely critical of American culture of the late 20th century, and awesome musical pieces, that played on MTV nearly constantly. This was my favorite band in high school, and I got such shit for it. I liked other groups, but TH were my favorite. They were so creative, stylish, and could really rip it. David (who I'm sure would drive me nuts) is maybe in the top five all-time musical geniuses of rock. Loved all their stuff, especially this and Stop Making Sense, which I think is in the top three all-time greatest concert films.

Me too. It's one of the best movies ever made - right up there with Brazil (Terry Gilliam).

During this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, "Love for Sale" is more relevant today than in 1986. To better cope with self-isolation and
quarantining, it's victims (consumers) must seek products symbolizing love, comfort, safety and security. Hence, this is a great tune to help you cope with and better manage social distancing.
