Whoa! She sure responded great from the winter pruning! This is fantastic! I took a ton of notes yet again. I’m a couple seasons behind you, so I sure appreciate this.
Nice job pruning on the lemon. Try a 0-5-1 for getting the lemon to bloom. There is a bloom boost, 0-50-0 and that gets the hardest to bloom. With this, the lemon should bloom in winter. That is what mine do. A bit crazy, but for the North, that is what it does. At least for me. Try a higher middle number though for blooming.
Watching your videos really reminds me of some of the basics in a sort of outside the box way that inspires me. Great trees, Great video. Thanks Nigel!
My parents have a 40 year old orange tree in a large pot. In the winter time they didn't do anything special with it. Literally just had it sit on a stool by a window in the dining room. My experience with citrus trees is that you can literally just keep them indoors in the winter at around room temperature and treat them as you would if it were spring or summer. They will still thrive. Their native habitats have far warmer winters than upstate new york, other northern states or Canada...
Very beautiful bark on those trees! I will have to grow from seed. Nursery citrus are $70 - 280 ish here. As soon as you rubbed off those buds the sirens went, I was like, Oh no! They're coming for you now! LOL
Finally, I am up to date with all your videos (been watching them chronologically starting from the very first)! And this particular lemon tree is exactly what brought me to your channel in the first place. 😅 I was browsing yt for citrus trees pruning ideas and there it was: The Bonsai Zone. Greetings from Poland! ❤
@Nigel Saunders, The Bonsai Zone so have you ever counted the number of episodes you have created?? Off the top of my head I would think about... let's see one video a day times the the number of years..... 🎉🧠🤯 that's definitely in the thousands.. that would take a month of Watching your videos for 4 hours a day to complete half of your play list... totally didn't really Calculate the numbers so I'm probably wayyyyyyyy off..😂
@@mmjnice97 I am not sure how long it would take to watch TBZ daily, but I had the stats set for yt, and according to the app I have spent in the zone around 15h per week. I started watching the channel last July, so it took a while. 😅 Plus, I like to get back to some videos a few times, if I find it especially amusing, instructive and fun. It is safe to say I am in The Bonsai Zone most of the time. 😅
When to repot lemon tree to bonsai training pot? I have a lemon tree about one inch thick trunk. I want to turn it into a bonsai. Last fall I trunk, chopped it, leaving 9 inches on the trunk. It leafed out well. I live in North Alabama USA and do not have a greenhouse. It’s in a large 18-20 inch pot. I want to reduce into a oil pan at this stage. Right now we have 90° days in 70° nights.
It should be OK to do it now, the best time is late spring, just before the tree pushes out new growth, if the tree has been kept cool over the winter.
It's interesting the variation you get in citrus leaves, some years they look very different from other years. I think it depends on the vigor and wintering conditions?
When you see Nigel for so long you almost say Zombie Apocalypse at the same time. Priceless.
Lol!
It gets even worse, if you start thinking "Zombie Apocalypse" whenever you hear the Police siren, lol! 😅
@@justynamaek agree.
That Lemon tree sure has a nice shape! It is quite a sight to behold. Enjoyed watching you work on this little citrus.
Hi Nigel can't wait for ficus Friday's
The weather is slowly getting warmer, but we can still get freezing temperatures almost until June!!
@@TheBonsaiZone yeah even here in India the temperatures are cold , we even had a hailstorm yesterday.
It's hard to style the branches of citrus trees in bonsai. But their trunks look great! I love them.
Thanks for going into so much detail about the structure of this Lemon. It really gives me great ideas.
Thank you 😊

I will post my bonsai lemon tree in a couple day. This looks amazing

Good info. Thanks
Sometimes when you start talking about a branch, I know you're about to say: "I think I'm going to take it off" :D
Cuteness overload 😍😂

You got it 🤘
Fo shizzle!😂
The weather can be very fickle this time of year. Where I am at we had a high of 83f or around 25c yesterday's high was more like 51f or 6c.
Yes, it's been a roller coaster!!!
Has🎉
@16:35 not sure if they are soil gnats or aphids, but looks like you have some critters, Nigel.

Looks very nice, is this a Kaffir Lemon ?
I'm not sure what kind it is, I never got a tag with it when it was given to me!
hey Nigel odd question beside using the 20-20-20 have ever thought bout using root rescue?
I'm not sure what that product is, is it like SuperThrive?
I have noticed that scale insects seem to be a large yearly winter issue. Have you ever considered using a systematic insectide for the winter?
I asked Jay that once n he said that it’s not permitted in Canada ✌️
No, I don't want to die of cancer or poison the Earth!
Hi Nigel, do you fertilize the same way the entire year period?
Yes!
Interesting, the leaves are coming out segmented, with two sections, looks more like my grapefruit tree instead of a lemon trees.

I respect the fact that you don't wire your trees but man I wish you could hear me screaming put some wire on that branch don't cut it hehehehe
