One day in Cairo in a niqab

  • I spent one day in Cairo wearing a niqab (some of you may call it burka!) - definitely an interesting experience.
**note** when I say I didn't want to get in trouble if discovered under my niqab, it's because after the Egyptian Revolution there was a period of paranoia when all the foreigners were suspected of being spies... if you don't know about this it's because you're not a foreigner and didn't have to escape your flat ;) So stop bitching. Cheers.

If Muslim men cannot cope with women who are not covered up because they cannot control their rampant sexual desires then obviously Muslim men should not be allowed in Western countries where women are not covered up.
This is a matter of logic and I look forward to the Muslims scholars giving their opinion on this matter.

mark carey I definitely think the ideology of Muslim men in the Middle East and Muslim men in Western countries are very different. In the Middle East and other Arabic countries, going out without a hijab or any other type of covering is like going out naked. Even men don’t usually wear shorts and short-sleeved shirts. In the west it is different. Woman choose to wear what they want, and are never forced. Diversity is amazing, would you really want to live in a country with only one race and religion?

I'm not religious so I don't care about that but as for the multiple races well, yes, I agree we need to mix in

It's much less the sexual desires of men and more about the beauty of a woman. The woman is seen as something lovely and a gift to anything around her, so rather than share the gift, her beauty is seen as something that she owns to herself and it's rude to force someone to give themselves away like that. It's the Islamic version of prostitution so to speak? Like if you force a lady to show her face/hair/body then it's considered obscene and awful and definitely not something that's ideal

    • @markcarey8426
      @markcarey8426 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@polybeel5187 Ok I get your point. But I don't think that's all there is to it. The words " The woman is seen as something lovely and a gift..." etc etc does nothing to explain how a woman might feel. Do women have the choice? No they don't. Unless you consider being ostracised, assaulted and possibly threatened with murder an option.

@@markcarey8426 I'm a niqabi living in the southwestern USA, and my entire family is nonmuslim. There is absolutely nothing and nobody pressuring me into it, and in fact I'm assaulted regularly for wearing it at all. It's because I respect my body and my mind that I don't invest in the useless vanity like fashion and the self obsession people engage in now. I feel it gives me power, happiness and comradery with my fellow niqabis, since I have the freedom to choose if you see my body or how much of it.
And I do get your point on choice. Not everyone is as lucky as I am, and I can admit that. That isn't Islamic, that's cultural. There are several verses in the Qur'an regarding this practice and it's haram or impermissible. I can cite evidences if you'd like or link to several articles.

a lor of people wear this in my country Uk. I bought one. it is a great piece of attire. it is water resistant. the rain just rolls off. in Cairo I wore it coming off the plane I was left in peace ro catch my cab. around town I was left in peace to shop and walk. I am a red head so it hid the sun of my sensitive face and body. it kept the sand off my body. it kept the dirt off my clothes. men did not ask me for money. men that looked smiled respectfully. sometimes people judged my white face, they could see from my eyes I was not African. I love my faith and Noone needs to know what my faith is. I wear it when I. feeling shy. it's a private place the body sometimes. and I can sick my tub in there Noone knows or cares. however alot of people around me disagree with me wearing it. I maintain my human right to wear what I want when i want. if I am not doing anyone harm. one thing I find difficult with this style of dress is that it covers the ears, so I could not hear traffic so well or people talking. also crossing roads I found it hard to check for traffic because it creates a blind spot on each side of the face.

The Jilbab and Headscarf protect me from direct heat of the sun. And when Jilbab is loose and modest it allows air to circulate and you feel cooler.

I agree with you.Wearing this outfit as a costume is not really getting the true meaning.
You could dress as a Nun or nurse but unless you know the deeper faith and the joy that SOME Muslim women get from this tribute to Allah ,it is just a costume.
Don't get me wrong.I'm white English and do not understand Islam at all .As long as the women are wearing them out of choice and not under servitude of a man Let them do so without judgement from others and admiration from us for showing their faith as a Nun would..

im a muslim, i dont wear niqab or burka, i just simply wear hijab/scarf. i live in malaysia where there is sun all year around. i simply wear the hijab becasue it is what Islam says and I am glad to wear it becasue it keeps me safe from bad eyes and stares. some people ask me, how do i manage to do things with hijab, the answer is simple, i just do it, like any other people. when i swim, i cover my body, when i hike, i cover my body (and head too, of course), just like any other people.
talking abt the hot wether, well, it is a matter of types of materials that u choose. anyone would never wear leather jacket in a hot humid day, right?

The problem with Islam today is that they put the blame on women, which is in fact contradictory to what Prophet Muhammad practiced and taught. Prophet Muhammad never blamed or stated that women is the cause for sexual deviance.
Firstly, why don't sheikhs or religious scholars place greater emphasise on men having to lower their gaze? When it clearly states that it's sin for a man to look at a woman with lust, sexual desires or thoughts? Regardless if she's veiled or not. Since, everyone is so gung-ho about Shariah, why aren't men punished for looking at women when the Quran states that he should do eitherwise?
Secondly, theres a hadith narration regarding Prophet Muhammad turning the face of his male companion 3 times in the presence of a beautiful woman. The Prophet has never once told the woman to cover her face, nor to turn away, nor did he ask her to leave or go away, nor did he blame the woman for causing 'lustful" gaze upon the man. Instead, he turned the face of his male companion 3 times as to not look at her with with lustful gaze.
Thirdly, another hadith narration was reported at the battlefield when angels descended to greet the matyrs. Prophet Muhammad was noticed to cover his eyes and facing right to left repeatedly. When asked why he did so, he replied saying that there so many angles who came rushing to greet the martyrs, parts of the garments would slid open and expose their thighs and calves. The reason why he closed his eyes was so that he did not see the exposed parts of the angels, and the reason why he repeatedly faced left to right was because the angels were coming in all directions, he did not know where to look.
This was the character of Prophet Muhammad and what Islam preaches. Unlike the corrupt religious Islamic scholars we see and have today.

And I am free not to associate with you. You want to hide from the world? Be my guest. I will treat you as you want to be treated--as if you're not there, as if you don't exist. What you don't understand is that by covering your face like this, you are demeaning ME. You are telling me that I can't be trusted to treat you decently, that I will only sexualize you and think dirty thoughts about you if I see your face. That is insulting to me. So go ahead and cover up, convincing yourself that you're pleasing God. You think you're being extra pious. I think you're ridiculous and pitiable.

If it's Black doesn't it make your head overheat? Can you wear an abaya and no other clothes under it? If you work as a doctor for example and you all wear the same color coverings how do they know which doctor you are so they can call you?

How awkward a woman's life can be just because her 'sexuality' is a problem to everyone else, other men and sometimes other women, so to avoid hassel she covers to this extent. That's the rub: A WOMAN'S SEXUALITY IS EVERYONE ELSE'S PROBLEM BUT HER OWN. Giulia has a pleasing face and what a joy to see. Imagine life if NOBODY's face was visible, even men? I can obviously see the annoying aspects of wearing this item of clothing, but I do think that it can be somehow great for women because by wearing it, it "frees" them from all the men that could look at them. I have been gathering the articles to try this myself around a Muslim community in my area, since I probably will not get to Cairo. Many other women who have experimented with this at "try a Niqab Day" event in various cities, come away with the opinion that it creates a certain "freedom", anonymity and privacy that they no lo0nger are being stared at or treated like a sex object of meat.
I would certainly be willing also to give this a try and experience it for myself, without having to be Muslim.

All I'm trying to say is that Islam tells both men and women to use prevention rather than a cure . If u noticed in Egypt that some practicing men were wearing beards and also covering in modest dress. Islam also requires them to do their part so that u curb the social dangers that ppl being human can fall into. Not all men and not all women r going to use self restrain to stop them selves from their desires .

Salam alaikum :) Nice experiment. I agree that wearing the niqab MUST be a woman's choice. It does have hardships that go along with it, and a woman has to be prepared for those, if she is forced to wear a niqab, then she won't be able to deal with some hardships. I've worn niqab for quite a while now, and you certainly have to be strong to do it.

very interesting video.. as an american woman ive always wondered about the convenience of these coverings (hope that word doesnt offend.. my apologies if it does).. like eating/drinking in public and i thought the fabric would be easier to breath through but as you said its not.. the things those women go through! kudos to them all.

@lampka666 May peace be with you (my greeting to you). The Niqab is a religious clothing not for worn for a man but worn for the woman. If the niqab is worn wrong then yes it will be hard to breath and hard to see. But if worn correctly you will be able to breath as if you have nothing on and be able to see as if there is nothing covering the lower half of the face. The "black, heavy bag" is called a Abaya and it is not heavy nor is it hot or anything of that nature.

The heartbreaks of our parents are not really our heartbreaks. We understand them. We must learn from them. Humanity has the potential of being at the center of Creation's greatest jewel, but if we do not understand how great is this responsibility, we will be cast aside and in the greater scheme of life. We will become an extinct player in the ongoing cycle of life. Must we end? I do not think it is necessary, if we act accordingly.

Obviously all the men cant stay at home so it is better 4 women to protect themselves.it is not wrong if one show his precious thing in the public, it's wrong when someone steals it,so wise people always hide such thing from public display.same is the example of women.she is VERY precious that's why she should cover herself.

  • @moekazi9338
    @moekazi9338 11 ปีที่แล้ว

While praying you shouldn't cover your face - true, didn't say you should. The issue is whether it's ONLY a "cultural thing". Quite simply put - it's not. When the verse in Sura Nisa was revealed about the Jilbaab, the women who heard this, quickly started tearing excess pieces of their clothing in order to cover their face.. Now, the niqab, in public (not whilst praying) isn't Fardh, but it isn't just a "cultural thing" ..and this aint a debate, since by basis is from hadith.. Was Salaam :)

To be honest, you only show how annoying it is, how you can not eat, you can not breath.
But the woman who wear this dont even think about this, its something to please Allah. Fasting is also difficult, but also something to show how much you love Allah and in how far you want to go by pleasing Him.

if I was in a muslim country, I would wear this also - I have no intention of being accosted by random randy men thinking they have a right to insult a woman...this illustrates the problem however: why does a woman have to look like a tent, to stop eating an ice cream or drink a coffee with pleasure in a cafe in order to help men behave? Men are in charge of themselves (before they are in charge of anything else)...why demand women be responsible for men's sexual morality?

During Christ's trial, the chief priests asked Him point blank, "Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." And He said,
    • "I am." (Mark 14:60-62)
    • "Yes, it is as you say." (Matt. 26: 63-65)
    • "You are right in saying I am." (Luke 22:67-70)
In John's gospel, he recounts Jesus' interview with Pontius Pilate (John 18:33-37). Pilate wanted to know if He were the King of the Jews. Jesus then talked about how His kingdom was not of this world. The truth is, he is King of the whole universe.

I have a question for you-what are you going to do when you learn that Allah is a myth, and you have spent all your life coering your beautiful body in shame.???JUST FOR MEN....The reason they want you covered up is because it was written by a man.
