27 Apr 2024 1) For a vintage '54 oldie film dug out from the archives, the quality of this reel is practically brand new! Kudos to the archivists' outstanding preservation work! 2) Not from that era myself, I'm really having some trouble matching the many names with the faces of this long dramatis personae list (I believe many viewers in 2024 are facing my situation too). A deliberate benign strategy obviously by the casting director to open doors, so to speak, for emerging acting talents of the day. Considering especially how minor/fleeting roles a fair number of them were assigned. 3) Of course Leong Seng Bor, Sun Ma Shi Zeng, Foong Wong Luei, Fong Yim Fun, Neng Moong were already established names by this time. And they would go onto grace the screen for at least the next decade or so, bequeathing a rich, sumptuous and heart-warming celluloid/cultural legacy for posterity. For that we are eternally grateful indeed. 4) These multi-generational family structures with a patriarch/matriarch presiding over their large brood - including seconding wives at that - with their external trappings of old-school if under-stated wealth and mansion-style living - domestic servants in tow - seems to me like three lifetimes away. Particularly given today's nuclear families set-up (deteriorating traditional Confucian filial piety obligations?), (steeply) falling birth rates in the majority of advanced economies (and that includes mainland China herself!), disintegration of the extended family-under-one-roof living arrangement in spacious landed property - definitely not in land-scarce Hong Kong/Singapore! 5) In tandem with these significant shifts in cultural norms are of course the exponential technological advancements impacting dramatically and drastically family dynamics around the world today in the 21st century, literally. The wrapped-up-in-one's-own immersive world of alternative cyber universe, ignoring the human interaction element of even the person sitting right next to oneself - any wonder why humankind's state of relations have plummeted to such abysmal depths today? Fodder for academic/scholastic dissertation there. 6) The sudden revelation at 18.05 comes as a shocker even for this (supposed) veteran worldly-wise viewer by my own proud esteem. Brilliant scriptwriting I say. 7) Undercurrents of domestic disputes lurking beneath the seeming placid lake surface - always a reliable trope from movies since time immemorial. Foong Wong Luei's role here as the de facto power-dictating daughter-in-law to whom even her father-in-law ("Bor Shuk") has to lean on for financial security - expect nothing less from her proud, strutting (but infertile) phoenix-eyes demeanour. Clear case of playing to one's unique facial features/attributes by the screenwriters. 8) 34.30 - thundery, stormy night. Could there be a more ominous symbolism/premonition for star-crossed lovers? Standard fare in Shakespearean tragedies/romance novels in truth. 9) The film at a mere 1 hr 27 mins appears truncated/dissected. Its ending too, events as they stand, certainly give nudge enough for a follow-up sequel (I share viewer @waifonglee3006's comments herein). A number of unresolved situations are left hanging in the air : Bor Shuk's extra-marital dalliance with one "Lucy"; his dodgy business finances; Sun Ma's tricky romantic manoeuvres with Yim Fun impeded by his female cousin's (unwanted) attentions; Foong Wong Luei's marital spat with husband. Was this in fact a rushed job by the movie's producers, for whatever reason? 10) Lastly, discerning viewers would not have failed to notice the vastly ironical film title of Happy-Harmonious-Congenial Garden when in fact the overall theme is that of a tear-jerker. Gracias.

自己是首次看此片當中有不同電影公司演員合作有梅蘭，金雷，夏春秋，余美華，梁素梅，李香瑩（即李鳳聲）。余美華在電影多做壞女人角色而演出電影結婚的秘密和業債親情表現出色。另梁素梅也參演很多電影可惜命運坎坷，自資拍攝的電影叫好不叫座若此片有整套結局更理想多謝上載。

鳯凰女做王𤋮鳯簡直一絕，最適合的人選
《紅樓夢》改編成時裝片，衆多主要人物都在場，算是很大膽的巨構。鳳凰女的王熙鳳真是好出色，但在原著中平兒是鳳姐的左右手，到最後還救了巧姐，她對鳳姐恩重如山。鳳姐和平兒的改編過度失真。或者呢部片太著重芳艷芬和新馬的大展歌喉，夜吊白芙蓉成為大觀園結局，重心失衡。結尾晴雯對寶玉示愛，太誇張，拍攝形象也很難看，誠為敗筆。不過本片作爲文物，冇得頂，因此點讚了，感謝上傳。👍👍👍

此片看每位女演員服裝都好端裝高貴美麗！！
在50尾及60年代初看女士們服裝款式和髮型都十分好看。
至60年代中期女士們髮型感覺好冇美感，每每電到蓬鬆硬崩崩，如面形或身型嬌細更覺顯得頭大身細，難看！
