Not trying to be a d1ck but did his lifting get worse? I have found consistently with higher level clients that are men (who squat over say 400) that they regress whenever training with their spouse for a prolonged period. However, the women seem to get better results. There are quite a few reasons for this, none of them the usual sexist crap people say. I am interested only in finding a solution that works for couples. I suspect that elite lifters do not have this problem because they all can focus correctly but I don’t coach enough people to draw a conclusion from that level of lifter
@@MichaelWarrenPerform Nope, he's right on track in accordance to his progressive overload program. My role in his program is to keep ego lifting in check and provide feedback on maintaining standard ROM and good form.
My training partner of the last 2 years is a woman I work with in the Air Force. Only person I’ve met who stuck with me and my level of intensity for over a week. We drive each other, we’re best friends, and we are better for having each other. My coach is also a WPD/WBB IFBB Pro, Alyssa Kiessling. I work with ppl who make me better and it doesn’t matter who they are, all that matters is the results and how they fuel my fire.
Me and my wife have trained together every workout for 10 years and she always pushes me especially on leg days. Her volume capacity is insane and it kicks ass to see women kick ass in the gym
I have yet to find a reliable training partner, been pushing myself to the limits alone, but always hear Dr. Mike's voice in my head when I feel like quitting telling me to push more, that rep was bull shit, etc.
The two best training partners I ever had were women. Both of them were Hawaiian Tropics bikini models and had the "I'll do what you do" approach. They never missed a leg day unlike my bro training buddies ha ha. They trained hard and we motivated each other. Those were some of my best and fun training years.
Absolutely. I’ve been training with an elite female bodybuilder, and we go pound for pound, yep for rep. They’re brutal workouts and we’re 50+ . No one trains as hard as us at my gym and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Side note: many men I’ve talked to won’t train with strong women because their ego won’t allow it.
My girlfriend and I lift together 4 days per week on a 5/3/1 split. When we started her deadlift was 85x8, now it’s 225x6 a year later. 🤣 I think lifting with a girl might increase acute testosterone levels.
It probably does mate, most men like feeling strong when they are being watched by their partner. I'll say it probably does motivate you in those last reps when bench pressing haha

Yes. Men and women make great training partners. I've been training with my wife for the last 18 months and made amazing progress because of that. I've had female training partners in the past as well. As long as both are dedicated then it works.
Feel like finding a good female training partner is just as hard as finding a good male one. Not many girls lift and many start just to lose some weight, guys are often ego lifters and not as good with form and not just being a motivation video in human form. I admit I've only ever only had one training partner, for about 4 months for a team workout contest, it was a girl. PS- love the "I'm Batman" 👌👏
I LOVE a training partner. I prefer someone strong, but honestly I just enjoy company. Knowing there are eyes on me also helps keep my technique honest.
Rp I want to thank you guys so much. I'm in the 3rd week of my 4week +1 deload plan. Your guy's training methods are unrivaled and I'm so glad you are sharing
I really only prefer training with a partner when I’m doing legs. I don’t mind either way for push and pull, but for legs it’s helps me push myself a lot harder
i train with my husband, I've got him into lifting and he gets good results, and although im 4.8ft tall, and there is a certain gap between the weight he takes and the weight i can take, we work the same muscle groups, help on failing reps, and its really great to motivate each other
me and my missus do the exact same push pull legs program and we train together 6 times a week, all we have to do is change the weights a little bit, it's way more motivating having a training partner
@@andrewevans6826 that is bs. Have you ever even trained with someone? if you are as motivated alone as while training with someone, you probably are a sociopath.
I had a couple female lifting partners for a couple years. Highly recommend. They were great about watching for form mistakes and that kind of stuff that a spotter should do but most don't. The only problem we had was that I lifted much more than them and made gains much faster than them. So they had to check their egos and I had to make sure not to brag or show off.
I've always thought it was best to pick a partner who is better than you for what you're training for. Personally, I have a male powerlifter train with me for any strength cycles that focus more on setting weight PRs and my wife actually helps me in volume training. So personally, having a female partner could actually give you an idea of your relative strength and hypertrophy in how you set up a progression
For me the biggest issue is machine fit (this goes for working in with anyone). If we can safely use the same settings yay. If they're 5" shorter or taller than me, odds are bad. Have to move the J cups (if on a rack), safety's etc.
Seeing a lot of the same comments, just going to say everyone is biased bc everyone's opinion of themselves is they train great.Just as a thought experiment, how many people do you know will admit they've trained for a long period of time AND say they train poorly? Lol. Basically no one. You know what's a lot easier than working hard? Talking about how hard you work.
My only issue is on squats being 6 4, but also have the same issue with most male training partners. That being said I have no problem stripping weight, so it isn’t a major issue.

why do people hit the top of the machine (bang) every time? I always feel if I can squeeze hard and quick enough to hit the top then it’s too light for me and I need to add a bit more weight.
I wish I had a good bro training partner at my gym. But either they have ulterior motives (i.e. get in my pants) or don't follow a similar protocol. Full body 3x/week with focus on legs is not popular with the guys.
As far as my experience in strength sports training partners don't necessarily go to the gym and do the same shit, taking turns back and forth, rather they are two people that train at the same time and may even eat together as well to support each other in their progress. I've seen physique types and strength types train together, they spot each other but generally are doing different stuff. Gender doesn't really apply here. Since all bodies are unique, your training should always be unique to you once you've gotten beyond beginner. This is why trying to necessarily match your partners routine isn't always a good idea.
