Met Hayward and Bullen at Pitchfork (they did a fucking meet and greet!). Told them I flew from Oregon to Chicago just to see them then turned and said "I have to admit though, The Ghost Trade is my favorite thing you've ever done." His response was "Oh yeah, we drove ourselves up the fucking wall doing that one!" Love it.
Lyrics : Three weeks on and one week off That is how my life is planned Eat, work, sleep when you're on the night shift Wheels of industry turning around Curtains drawn while the sun shines Working hard all through the night - ah well The night shift takes its time and takes its toll
stunning music and powerful ideas in a perfect fusion. Charles Haywrd is a superb musician who brings out the best in anyone he plays with, what guy, what a song this is.
I saw Camberwell Now live many times during 1984-85, often playing to only a handful of people. Hard to believe given the cult following they have today.
It's crazy how unknown This Heat and Camberwell Now were in their day. While I never got to see either group during their original tenures (I was born too late to catch either), I had the privilege of seeing This Is Not This Heat in Chicago during their very last tour before hanging it up for good, and the venue was thoroughly packed. They played almost everything from their short discography (It was supposedly the first time they had ever played "24 Track Loop" live) and even exchanged some political banter with us between a couple songs. It was such a great experience!
Everyone who saw them live became an almost instant fan and would spread their gospel…but it never really got picked up by the papers as we could say…ThisHeat was making the most raw and disjointed fragmented stuff while punk was just kicking off and then Camberwell Now was seen as too ‘soft’ while all the darker postpunk seemed to be dominant…rip Trefor Goronwy 🙏🏽✊🏽🙏🏽
Great music, i wished my friends would like it too. They seem to hate everything i like. Ah well, it takes its time and toll. All's well, all will be well. I am sure
Been trying for a while now to find a good bass chart for this song, but there’s absolutely nothing so far. If there’s any kind souls out there with a good approximation, please let me know lol
The closest connection I can come up with is that Charles Hayward was in Quiet Sun with Bill MacCormick, and Bill was in Matching Mole with Robert Wyatt.
Rip Trefor Goronwy, bassist extraordinaire…this song just made me cry…🙏🏽
The bass playing on this album is so insane to me. I can’t even comprehend how he does it.

one of the most under-appreciated bands of their time. the bass playing is incredible, but it's all pretty incredible ...
Yes! Truly a wonderful band!!
The BASS is simply THE BEST and the MOST INCREDIBLE in the RIO music history
I'm so glad you enjoyed!
This is considered RIO?

Holy damn I’ve been listening to this video for over a decade and didn’t realise you were his kid!
Dissociative and disconnected, yet pacey and emotional. What a song...
Really hasn't dated at all! Still amazes me to this day...
Idk how the hell I ended up here but I love it!!
I'm glad you like it!
Exactly
TH-cam's automated "up next" suggestions can be freakishly GOOD, especially for music that is often overlooked.
I still play this to my mates, today, and they're always captivated! = )
Your dads band is one of the best things that happend to music during the 80s, should be proud!
Seen them live a few time. Beautiful complicated structures with relatively simple instruments
Definitely one of the albums of all time

i saw them two times in germany in the eighties. it was like a epiphany but onle for about thirty people, i will never forget this

Why am I the first one to give comment to such a beautiful and still going strong track after so many years.
Unique music!
最高!!!
incredible rhythm & vibe in this song, wonderful.
aaaah the bass playing
never heard this some great noises and rythyms
Super cool.
Insanely ahead of its time
Yes, both bands had members in common and shared a kind of musical evolution!
Maybe the best song ever written

Just enjoy the music you enjoy, don't care what friends say. I didn't!

Good luck, its a kinda one-off tune!
Trevor probably knows
@@stephenrickard8349if only the guy existed online, I’d ask him myself lol
Best prog rock ever. The lyrics are genius.
I. F. B. Prog rock? This is hip hop influenced techno-swing 😉
Whaat?? This is Drum and Bass, didn’t you guys know?
@@bortnik_bortnik Does it have drums? Yes. Does it have bass? Yes.

凄いビート感
素晴らしいビート、それが大好きです!
this has something to do with THIS HEAT, I think? I like their whole aesthetic
11 years late but yes, both Charles and Trefor were part of This Heat and CN
Has it something to do with Robert Wyatt?
Not sure, I don't think so. For what its worth I live in Lincolnshire tho, Robert Wyatt's adopted home!
There’s certainly a spiritual connection with Robert and early Soft Machine.
Well, in Pearl Divers Wyatt's influence is very very clear

arrrrrrr
When a post-punk band invents breakcore:
Hey, cool. They wrote a song about me.
Really?
No, not really. But I work nights, and it stinks.
@Chig Writing this while slacking off at my day shift job 🤙
