Bumblebee acts as a soft reboot to the franchise. It started off as a prequel to the Bayformers but then it was carried succeeded by ROTB which changes the story (from the bay movies) and is the direct sequal to this.

The only mistake I felt in the movie was that how did Optimus Prime already had the Red truck from even before he got to earth. At first I thought maybe he had something for the color red, but he certainly looked like he was a truck in the opening struggle scene. Can anybody from the OG comics community tell me why.
They couldn't made another design due to budget and the Cybertron scene was made in last minute after the movie was changed from prequel to reboot. This is the same thing in G1 where all characters have earth designs despite they were never in Earth until at the end of episode 1. Besides, the designs has some differences like the smoke tanks, wheels and the fourarms.
Well there must have been some cybertronian truck like vehicle on cybertron. When he came to earth he scanned a truck. We saw optimus at the end of the movie with a bot mode much similar to the one in Rise Of The Beasts and that explains that his bot mode from the fall of cybertron scene is a little different from the one we saw at the end

Although from what I am hearing Transformers One is just great and has no filthy humans ruining the flow of the story and it's about Optimus and Megatron.
