Super interesting! I’m really glad you guys brought up the intersection between trans & autistic people and that some people might not pursue an autism diagnosis if they’re trans. I’ve seen so many transphobic people using autism as a reason to not trust a kid saying they’re trans. And I that goes back to (like you guys said) the perception of autism & that these people don’t see autistic people as capable of making choices/advocating for themselves
Thank you for this comment! Really wanted to keep this conversation as transparent, yet informative as possible while also being sensitive to things being taken out of context to suit a narrative to hate on people. Really appreciate your comment again! Means a lot, hope you stick around 🥰
As someone who is trans and possibly neurodivergent (likely on the ADHD side though, not autism) this was very interesting to listen to. First of all I appreciate both of you being so gentle about the topics you discussed. It's easy for someone who is not part of a community to be like "those people" and seperate themselves as if they were different species. But in the end we're all just human, each struggling with our own stuff. Outside of that I just want to stress how important it is to still support communities we're not a part of. I myself consider myself privileged in terms of being trans (came out young, supportive family, no medical problems, etc), which in turn makes me feel so much more for people who don't have all the things I do. So I'm sort of coming from the same place of wanting to help someone who's struggling. And I've found, in personal experience, that education without big expectations really is what gives people the most empathy for people they percieve as very different. So I really appreciate you taking the time to do exactly that.
Thank you so much for your kind comment! Wanted to make sure that my intentions were evident in having (and publishing) this conversation, so your comment means a lot! You’re spot on about having no expectations, never thought of it that way, so thank you!
