I actually slightly disagree with the conclusion that Apple should just make a more powerful Apple TV with a different controller. Apple hates fragmentation for a reason:1. Game devs would have to decide if they want to develop a game with a proper controller/better graphics in mind, or if they want to support the limited apple TV remote for example.2. The Apple TV app store would be split into "pro" and "regular" apps, adding complexity. 3. It would introduce unnecessary choice for consumers during the purchase process. Do they want to take gaming seriously or do they just want Candy Crush? Where exactly is the cutoff point between the two models? Apple doesn't like to burden the user with such choice, because usually choice kills conversion (users get confused and just don't buy either). 4. Apple fundamentally doesn't believe it can trust users to properly understand what the difference between two similar looking devices is. Rightfully so. If it looks like an Apple TV and it's called an AppleTV, but doesn't play all the AppleTV games, then people will get upset. This was kind-of the problem with Windows RT. Looked like Windows, but didn't run classic Windows apps. 5. I can't think of two Apple products in one product category that use fundamentally different input methods. classic iPods = scrollwheel, iPhones/iPads = multitouch, Macs = mice/trackpads + keyboards. Not sure Apple TVs should be the first category to break that trend.I think they would do best if they replicated their iPhone strategy. Make one kick-ass all-round device for the device category. Promote (and support) it until everyone understands what it fundamentally does. Once it is established, add new versions, but don't break backwards compatibility and don't support two different input methods at once. What do you think?
I think you are right too. I also thought of Apple should not emphasize on games, as it is not a gaming device. It is just a smart TV computer. Nice too see you, TechAltar.
I agree on Apple's philosophy that "Treat all users as dumb and make choices for them". A proper gaming console doesn't sound in line with Apple portraying themselves as a "way of life" company (i.e. Apple products not just products but a way of living), so I doubt they'll ever release a proper console or even are interested in such a product. Almost all their popular products are essentially commonplace items. iPhones are just a smartwatch, iMacs and Macbooks are regular laptops, and there is nothing groundbreaking about the iPod. No VR, no major products in any category which an average person would anyway not use. Sure, the Apple Watch is niche, but again, everyone uses a watch. Gaming consoles are just too specific for Apple to develop one.

5:47 there’s something missing in that train of thought. People still wouldn’t buy controllers or even consoles if there are no great games on it. Making games for Android is just as easy as for iOS. Actually, most popular games are sharing the same code across devices, just compiled & wrapped differently. The power of frameworks.

No, because they're profiting off on something that's not regulated yet. Just look at gambling laws. If the gambling commission knew what the game industry has been doing for the past decade, they'll abandon traditional gambling altogether and move to the game industry (or maybe some of them already did?). Know the saying, "House always wins"? Well, gacha & lootbox games took it all to a whole new level with less than 1% chance of getting what you want--and they all dismiss criticism with "oh, but you do get something in return (despite far from equal in value)." and "you can always grind (despite taking as much time as a literal paid work)." Stop enabling companies to take your money and/or time unfairly. Stand your ground as a customer.
Iuri Frazão, “I agree that the mobile industry is morally wrong (imo) using casino like strategies to get money. But it don’t justify ‘gamers’ saying that mobile games aren’t games.” Oh? Then what does it take to justify that? Calling them a scam instead, because they’re morally wrong? The cause for calling them “not games” today is wayy better that the previous cause they used in the early 2000s. Consumer-friendly cause is always better for us. “I’m not enabling companies to take my money, I’m enabling companies to sell to whatever it wants to anyone who wants.” Then what if the companies want to sell to you? Or your gambling-addicted relatives? Or even your younger relatives? Using the same scummy “casino-like strategies”? Or what if they all assume that all “gamers” are all the same as whales? Making the gameplay experience requiring to pay unfair MTX, lootbox/gacha, and/or playing as if it’s a fulltime job to get the whole experience? *Because that’s what happening right now.* They all think that just because some are willing to spend USD 99.99 (or more) on a single game, they treat every other gamer the same. Why? _Because there’s no laws to prevent them from doing so._ This is not about inhibiting creative expression anymore. It’s about the future of gaming. Unless you want the next generation to be filled with lootbox/gacha & unfair MTX Triple-As with a couple of actually fair indies, you really shouldn’t be supporting AAA companies whom are able to fool people by themselves.
Just an opinion: Apple has never advertised itself as gaming as one of the focus of their company. Even in WWDC, they demo games just to show how well their CPUs performs. If Apple brings a pro TV, then it means they are advertising as a gaming company. Apple would never take that risk. People will just compare every thing with actual gaming consoles/PCs. Instead what I think, they may do is continue what they are doing currently which is improve their CPU performances even more and perhaps pay top gaming companies to make games for their platform(Those all game demos you see in WWDC are actually these). This way, people like you and me keep on thinking why does Apple won't take this opportunity to make a gaming console. This discussion is safe for them, as it makes people think that Apple devices are very capable gaming machines and at the same time prevent people from comparing them with actual consoles/PCs as they are not meant for gaming.
Exactly what i was thinking. This video comes out of nowhere to solve no problem (Maybe because Fortnite came on iOS devices). Who buys an Apple device for gaming?
Krishna Bharadwaj Yep, there is actually little reason for them to make a "gaming console" or market one. Their audience is totally different from other "gaming" markets. The only problem though is that they can't sell peripherals, namely controllers, which will limit the types of games they can make and I see no way they can make controllers attractive to their average user, especially since you can bet your ass their controller will be stupidly unreasonable expensive.
LZ Their tech / Hardware is the best on mobile platforms for gaming. IPhone X has the most powerful processor out of all phones and it has a 120hz response rate display. In tablets they have the most powerful gpu wise processor A10X and an 120hz display for 120hz gaming (And yes it can handle it at least... Most of them)
you're still paying the price of a PC that could emulate that kind of performance for a phone. keep in mind also that those devices have bad cooling so when it heats up it will purposely limit performance. moreover, would you rather have a 120hz screen when non-game apps only offer up to 60hz and most game apps can't reach that performance, or would you like a screen that doesn't break when it hits the ground from 1 meter (3 feet) up
ThePizzabrothers Gaming They can emulate the performance but can they emulate the size of the phone?... An iPhone X is smaller and lighter than a gpu inside those computers but still carries an amazing camera infact 2 of them, a cpu, a gpu, ram, Display, battery, Case / Body all of that in a phone you can carry around anywhere. Idk how is this a fair comparison in the first place.... Yes they have bad cooling if you're not talking about gaming phones like Razer Phone and Black Shark as they have liquid cooling systems. Actually most games will reach that performance its just 120hz is pretty new and not many devs have yet updated it to support 120 fps and are capped at 60. But A10x is crazy powerful for a mobile device... There's a game called World of tanks blitz which has an fps counter and pretty high quality graphics for a mobile game and that runs at absolutely solid 120 fps maxed out without any drops but well for that you need an iPad Pro 10.5 (A10x) as Razer phone with sd835 only goes up to 70-80 fps.. Maybe SD855 will reach those numbers one day. Uhh... 120hz or screen that doesn't break what? are you even talking about... Comparing a Desktop to a Phone is like comparing a monster truck to a bike you think monster truck is more powerful? We will see which is better in roads...
Apple is not getting 30% of all fornite sales because most of its business is on PC and the consoles. Fornite right now is in beta on the App Store and you need a code to get in you can't even play it on there if you don't have a code. So that 500 million dollars is mostly going to Sony, Microsoft and epic games.
Jordan Bryant The $500,000,000 is the estimated amount of many. More people play on Console and pc so the numbers are even higher. You do not need a code to play Fortnite on mobile. Get your facts straight
Yes I was wrong You don't need a code anymore but that doesn't change the fact that Apple's not getting 30% of 500 million dollar. What I was saying is he's acting like all their sales are on the Apple products which is not true.
Most people buy their phones for calls/text/GPS web acess but games being the highest selling section for apps says its high up on the list of bonus reasons
The difference is mostly in culture as gamers will often sit down and seriously enjoy a games story(single player) or games with friends(Multiplayer). Mobile "gamers" are people who just play on their phone on their way to work and piss off all their facebook friends; they aren't expirenceing the art form that Videogames are these days, they are just using it as a way to pass time.
SJSU is,dj Pskeiek I call it that, because it is that. Gaming is gaming. It wouldn't be called "mobile gaming" if it's not gaming; instead, it would be called "mobiling" or some shit. But most mobile games are actually good
Thanks for the awesome videos! I found the background music to be off-putting though. I'm not sure if it was too loud, too repetitive, or too contrasting to your voice (Which is awesome for these videos btw). I just know it didn't feel right. Anyhow, just letting you know so you can give it some thought.
Sorry, Apple is not a gaming company. Apple is a fashion brand. Look at their ads, their relentless focus on making things thinner instead of making them less expensive or more powerful. Apple is the Nieman-Marcus of technology, and the reason they keep dumping money into things that have no hope of succeeding in the market like the Apple Watch is not because people want it, but because they need to maintain their aura of innovation, or the spell is broken, and everyone will realize they're paying extra markup for nothing other than the Apple Brand.
Lol they do have ads too for gaming. And if they wasn't a gaming company, they wouldn't partner with Nintendo and the rest, and they certainly wouldn't focus their app store for example on games.
+technoguy They run a store for their platform. That is all. Apple doesn't publish games, design games, or modify their platform to accommodate games. And they don't care what their users use the platform for. If tomorrow the next generation of 18-34 year-olds start using their phones to fry bologna, Apple will happily accommodate a bologna-frying app, and license someone to make a bologna-frying iPhone handle.
+Elemental Fluttography I chuckle at deluded consumers who conflate pride in their purchases with pride in themselves. Thanks for confirming my original assertion: "Apple caters to their customers' vanity." Heavens forbid that a computer sacrifice appearance or weight to meet some objective utility requirements. And before you get to proud of OSx, do realize that most of it was not written by Apple Computer, it was written by grad students and faculty of U.C. Berkeley. Apple was able to lift it wholesale and then begin porting it because of BSD's extremely permissive license.
This is a really well-made video, but as an Android developer, I feel like you made a bit of a mistake in saying that developing games for Android is a nightmare compared to Apple. Although there are a few more variables to take into consideration when making a game for Android, many of these are handled automatically if you are developing with a game engine like Unity, and they are still pretty easy to work around in Android Studio (Android's flagship development environment). It's really just a matter of making sure that you are basing your screen measurements around pixel density instead of simply number of pixels, which any game developer would probably learn to do right off the bat. (As I said, most game development environments handle this on their own by default). If anything, I would say that Apple is the much less developer-friendly company, at least with regard to getting up and running. Although the return on investment is probably better on iOS since paid games are fairly uncommon on the Play Store, working past all of Apple's security requirements, having to pay much more for releasing on the App Store, and the fact that you have to write iOS apps on an Apple computer all provide such a large barrier to entry that anyone working from outside of the Apple ecosystem would have to make a financial investment of a few thousand dollars before they could even consider doing so. In other words, the longterm return may be better, but all things taken into account, it's definitely not much easier to develop games for iOS than Android.
Robz Sarmy - I was thinking more from a development perspective. Console game development is easy mode with only one setup to make the game work on, while PC game development is normal mode with a billion different hardware and software configurations to make it work on.
Great video. Agree with everything apart from the Android being a pain to dev for and Apple not, this used to be true a looong time ago but now there are 7 iOS device screen ratios (11 on Android) and so many differences and bugs in iOS versions that iOS devices are just as much of a pain, and then things like notches to work with! So both are a pain, so a mute point nowadays, just a thing we do and luckily dev tools help a lot more than they used to. Do a video on VR and AR, Android is doing great things with VR (Oculus Go this week) and Apple has the AR chip and apparently working on a rumored AR/VR standalone device.
Someone said you might like two videos this week :) (Seriously though, don’t get used to it)

Why? _Because there’s no laws to prevent them from doing so._
This is not about inhibiting creative expression anymore. It’s about the future of gaming. Unless you want the next generation to be filled with lootbox/gacha & unfair MTX Triple-As with a couple of actually fair indies, you really shouldn’t be supporting AAA companies whom are able to fool people by themselves.
Hey man awesome video editing you really put some work into it and its really pleasing to the eyes thank you.
everyone: (good and innovative ideas to help the company)
apple: *removes basic features from the phone*
everyone: awesome!
I really look forward to Polymatter's videos. Please keep making them as often as you can.
0:55 Nice detail with the discord icon =D
Lord Cekrom yep
Lol yea
I didn’t even realize it was a sponsorship until I saw the banner saying link in the description. Smooooth.
Is the music in the background from club penguin?
You're transitions and pacing are 👌👌👌👌👌
Just an opinion: Apple has never advertised itself as gaming as one of the focus of their company.
Krishna Bharadwaj
Yep, there is actually little reason for them to make a "gaming console" or market one. Their audience is totally different from other "gaming" markets. The only problem though is that they can't sell peripherals, namely controllers, which will limit the types of games they can make and I see no way they can make controllers attractive to their average user, especially since you can bet your ass their controller will be stupidly unreasonable expensive.
your sponsorship transitions are so smooth
*This guy predicted Apple Arcade!*
Your channel is growing to be one of my favorites. COngrats!
They provide a platform for games. They don't produce games and their tech for games is nowhere near the best. They are not a game company. Fite me.
Most of them)
you're still paying the price of a PC that could emulate that kind of performance for a phone. keep in mind also that those devices have bad cooling so when it heats up it will purposely limit performance. moreover, would you rather have a 120hz screen when non-game apps only offer up to 60hz and most game apps can't reach that performance, or would you like a screen that doesn't break when it hits the ground from 1 meter (3 feet) up
Just don't compare a phone to a computer or console. Just don't.
Playing on phones is not gaming. It's just playing. Gaming is more serius.
Lucas Silva Tell that to Wot blitz Esports tournaments lol
That was a treat to watch and informative, well done!
PC MASTER RACE! Rocket league, league of legends, PoE
Change my mind?
your videos have so much production value that
something that indicates high production value
Can you do a video on Japan's population problem?
I love your videos, keep them up!
This has aged well
Nowadays
Mobile Gaming is booming

Thanks for putting your video title in your thumbnail I couldn’t read it the first time
I like the video but the background music is kinda annoying, I feel. Just a bit to think about: it could've been lowered in volume.
Agreed.
I'm new here, and damn I like these animations and effects u have in your videos. One new sub!
Jordan Bryant are you high
Jordan Bryant The $500,000,000 is the estimated amount of many. More people play on Console and pc so the numbers are even higher. You do not need a code to play Fortnite on mobile. Get your facts straight
Yes I was wrong You don't need a code anymore but that doesn't change the fact that Apple's not getting 30% of 500 million dollar. What I was saying is he's acting like all their sales are on the Apple products which is not true.
this editing is pretty cool, what software/stock animations did you use?
Apple is not going build a controller
"more clicks per second with our new controller"
Apple has made an Apple Arcade.
You know the updates slow down the device.
On IOS
Didn’t they stop doing that after a lawsuit?
Great channel, GREAT video. Keep up the good work. You got a Patreon?
rip windowa phones...they were a good idea...but somenthing went wrong
Gorilo They were too late.
OWL would be nice to have more choice than justa andorid and ios
Gorilo Yeah, but developers won't switch too easily and without developers there won't be success.
which software is used to make this smooth animated video? it is so cool
I do not consider mobile games as games
why?
Fight me on pubg mobile
Exactly, mobile games are there for when there is an absence of console/pc games. I think each company should stick with what they are good at...
I vote to move battlefront 2 into the mobile game category
Luke Banner Then you haven’t played good mobile games.
My parents won’t get me a console so most of my gaming was on my phone until I got a good enough computer very recently.
when console can be called serious gaming now
Aron Septianto since 1985
Aron Septianto Serious Gaming sounds like oxymoron to me 🤔
But Apple TV will probably be able run only iPhone/Pad games. So, much lower quality than even console
Keyboard and mouse doesn't make a gaming experience "more serious" I play Open world games and fps just fine on my Xbox one S
Max Cat actually the One S is capable of 1080p 60fps and the new One X does 4K 60fps
I can't understand how I did not come across your videos before. Your content is 👌
Vast majority of people don't buy their phones to play games. Vast majority of people don't buy Apple crap to play games.
A c h i yea try buy it for a social status or for business
Most people buy their phones for calls/text/GPS web acess but games being the highest selling section for apps says its high up on the list of bonus reasons
ur right most of them use it for texting and social media. a $1000 device for that? u couldve done it with a 200 android phone
You always open my eyes to look at these companies in different ways.
lol u said wii the latest and greatest nintendo console is the switch get with the times man lol
He in 2006
newest != most common/most profitable
Nice video, the content, the graphics, the sound FX they're all great..
#APPLE ARCADE 🙌🏾with the ps4 controller on the new 2019 tvOS and IOS 13
yeah we saw this is actually happening
Whoever edited this is godlike
Do you actually know how android development works?
Love the animations! What video editing tool you use?
Arma 3? Awesome
You are seriously good at changing my mind, like my thinking takes a u turn after watching your videos.
Boi I ain’t spending a single cent on games. My culture is not your not gaming device.
Neil :{ What culture
What?
Rock GamingTV gaming culture boi.
Apple no longer has to force their 30% cut on others :)
When you say game company I think of Valve and Frontier
Good video! Sorry if i Ask, what program did u used to make animations?
A video on Vladimir Putin?
manoj kumar why
why always kim jong un
Love the way you edit your videos👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Right apple is a 'gaming' company, just like how windows is a 'gaming platform'
>wii
>serious
Lord save my sole, Mobile games have been called gaming yet again!
Because, it is gaming too.
Thats like calling a nokia 3310 a computer
The difference is mostly in culture as gamers will often sit down and seriously enjoy a games story(single player) or games with friends(Multiplayer). Mobile "gamers" are people who just play on their phone on their way to work and piss off all their facebook friends; they aren't expirenceing the art form that Videogames are these days, they are just using it as a way to pass time.
SJSU is,dj Pskeiek
I call it that, because it is that. Gaming is gaming. It wouldn't be called "mobile gaming" if it's not gaming; instead, it would be called "mobiling" or some shit. But most mobile games are actually good
what's mobile gaming???? we were talking about playing mobile games vs gaming.
Thanks for the awesome videos! I found the background music to be off-putting though. I'm not sure if it was too loud, too repetitive, or too contrasting to your voice (Which is awesome for these videos btw). I just know it didn't feel right. Anyhow, just letting you know so you can give it some thought.
Yeaah, I'm going to stick with my PC and laptop lol Have fun playing the next angry bird for days.
So beautiful animations and experience is awesome. Please let me know how do you create your videos?
Aaron Long I chuckle at PC users with their big, ugly gaming laptops with their measly 3 hour battery life and terrible OS.
Elemental Fluttography
I’d rather be able to run stuff not made by apple, thank you very much.
So, Android is the PC gaming of the phone world, while iOS is the console of the phone world?
Roxor128 No. It can't be compared android apps/games doesn't run better than their Apple equivalent
Robz Sarmy Are you serious?
Yes I am...
Robz Sarmy they're both the same.
Robz Sarmy - I was thinking more from a development perspective. Console game development is easy mode with only one setup to make the game work on, while PC game development is normal mode with a billion different hardware and software configurations to make it work on.
Can i ask you which software you use to make your presentations?? I really like the style of the images you use.
5:03 Wii is for serious gamer? Lmfao. My grandma uses a wii(not joking)
4:10 Was that an *accidental* reference? You didn't mean to.
Apple is now allowing the compatibility of Xbox and ps4 controllers
4:05 THE MKBHD REFERENCE 😎
what is this fortnite game? cant find it on the app store...
And playstore
#jerro • 8 years ago no need for play store, I can side load it from epic lol
One of the smartest channels on YT
There are so many things wrong in this video... it's just sad
Like what?
Where is your own proof then huh?
technoguy why cry about it?
Jesse De Groot what's wrong with it?
NobbZ •
No one is crying. I just asked a simple question
This video is so good. I like this channel more than cold fusion now. You get me thinking differently.
I guess apple is starting to make changes that make more in a pain to work.
Not only that, but now more multi-platform development tools are being made as well.
Thorny the notch gives you more screen not less😁
Which obviously isn’t used for games
