I had 4 relatives that served in the 7th PA Reserves, all served in the same company but from different families. Only one out of the four survived the war and came home when the 7th PA was mustered out in 1864. He escaped being sent to Andersonville, where a majority of the regiment ended up.
That is an excellent question. They’re definitely should be ordinance returns in the national archives. I know of sources that have been published for the state of Michigan and Illinois, but do not personally know about the state of Pennsylvania. Hopefully someone else can chime in here with information for us both.
Are there any black Union soldiers that fought hard that deserve any mentioned in your book ones that accomplished amazing actions like protecting the flag not the ones that did all that singing one that did some fighting
As this is a book about Fredericksburg from December, 1862, and African-American soldiers came into the United States army after the release of the emancipation proclamation in January, 1863 - no there are none in this book. there would be many in the two years that followed! In fact, about 10% of the United States military.
I love these personal stories of individual soldiers. Great stuff.
Glad you are enjoying! They are a delight to prepare.

Is there a source for finding how individual regiments were armed?
