    Nice little fun fact, now we can fly in the shroud we can now land in the rocky pillar with the tunnel that formed the bridge leading into 1.0 gridania!

    If you stand up near the NPC by the aetheryte in just the right spot, you can see under the platform that the flower patch and the stump of the tree from 1.0 are still there.

    I always hear nothing but bad things about 1.0, but I still wish I'd had a chance to play it.
    Back when XIV was first released, I had a terrible PC. I tried to play it, but I could barely push out more than 5 FPS, and had constant hiccups and freezes. By the time I got a better PC, XIV 1.0 was dead and gone.
    ARR is currently one of my favorite games of all time, with over 6 months of solid log-in time. (Admittedly, at least 2-3 weeks of that is probably idle time, but still.) I love FF XIV, but I can't help but to feel like I missed out, not having seen it's very beginnings. I know it was bad, I have heard of all the terrible mechanics, lack of content, and so on. But still wish I could have experienced it for myself.

      There's a great deal of irony and hilarity to me - I don't think the FPS issues, hiccups, and freezes were your fault, my dear. 1.0 was so utterly unoptimized that most people couldn't play it well at all.

      I do wonder whether the story scenes at least from 1.0 could be re-created in the current game, we know the devs are keen to let people re-play 2.x storylines, but there may be a lot of technical barriers. Trust me, most of 1.x you would not want to experience, you are getting all the good bits with these videos minus the nightmare UI, controls and all other issues, it was not worth it at the time for most of us, those that kept playing had to have far better machines as well as a masochist streak. Even if your PC could handle the poor model optimization, you would still have to struggle with the servers, but I will say this, the last week, when it was free to come back, was some really memorable stuff, ironically the less time the game had left the better it got to play.

      Mad respect for the Meteor survivors who played 1.0 to conclusion. I'm a fairly new ARR player, and I think it's crazy their game is now our backstory.

      The community was smaller, tighter knit and very dedicated. The graphics were gorgeous. I actually liked the limitations that encouraged broader character development rather than vertical leveling being the main focus the first ~30 hours.
      That aside 1.x was a *trainwreck*. I'll always look back on it fondly, kinda like a failed relationship. It had its moments, I miss a few things but I'd never go back. :)

    Being a long-term PC gamer with a long history of Paladin characters starting in Diablo II, then continuining in World of Warcraft and Diablo III (Crusader), I initially created a male Hyur Gladiator during my FFXIV ARR trial. Having started that in Ul'dah, I felt a bit out of place there. Returning to the character creation screen to try out some more cool options, I eventually settled for a female Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon Archer, since that combination felt like a great match and I truly wanted to try out a more supportive-focused class/job. Since you could only create 1 character per realm in the trial, I made this character on another realm and set foot in Gridania.... And I was instantly sold. It remains my free aetheryte location to this date and I just LOVE idling there (aside from the damned gil bots). Having selected this particular server has also made me meet so many amazing folks, that I really am glad that I decided to break the Paladin tradition at the very start (don't worry, I still leveled it as my second job :3). This episode in particular I find quite intriguing and informative, thank you so much for sharing it!

    At least Gridania had a nice loading screen? But I did learn why some things are placed in a particular way, like how the aetherytes were kept far apart to ease congestion and loading... which is a constant problem now with Limsa these days. Also that trek for Conjurers, holy hell... Ty SoH! I can't wait for part 2! also that Lala's name at the end, Honga Vunga

      I know! One of my fave FFXIV tracks up to date! It always had a bit of an FFX feel to it for me, some of the melodies in it are similar to songs from FFX. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed FFX this song was just great. A random sidenote, I get the same FFX vibe nowadays from the song that plays in the Sea Of Clouds during the day! :D

    When I played 1.x I started as a pugilist, but I hated ul'dah as it was always so busy and dim.
    But I fell in love with Gridania, i would hang out in the adventures guild and leatherwork.
    So when I started ARR I chose to start as an archer first, simply to see Gridania again. It was much better then I remembered. Of course I had a really hard time with 1.x and never actively paid a subscription, so I missed out on alot.

    While the newer Gridania music (Wailers and Waterwheels) might just feel like a reimagining of Beyond the Clouds from The Sims 3 sometimes (no really, check it out, it's uncanny), I think I like it more than the original. It suits the overall musical style of ARR onwards better, and honestly the game is so Soken-heavy now that Uematsu's compositions can feel kind of jarring and out of place. At least the kept in the game and use it in a scene or two, I think? I never listened to the orchestrion roll but I've definitely heard the original in the game somewhere.

    How about they added most 1.0 content as MSQ in later expansion as FMV, solo instance story and group instance story.
    I know the original game doesn't exist anymore, let them recreate it for a new expansion, with the current engine.
    Learning about the past would be the new expansion and full story

      Amen to that! Ishgard is definitely my favorite city-state in the game. Not only the scale and construction but also the pure grandeur of the elite parts of the city and the contrast of its poorer parts where the less elite reside. I love the romantic, epic, and yet melancholic medieval feel to the city, of knights and dragons. It all fits together so perfectly. I still sometimes find myself just taking in the environment in appreciation when I am there, and I will never forget how impressed I was when I entered Ishgard for the very first time, especially with that music. The nighttime themes of Ishgard are definitely in my top 10 of FFXIV songs. (Though I have to admit, a lot of the songs in the top ten hail from 1.0.)

    BRING BACK VANILLA FFXIV!!! No seriously, they really should create an alternate universe or something for FFXIV using the same graphics design and user interface format as FFXIV 1.0 - OR - It would be awesome of the Ivalice Alliance used the graphic design and user interface format for a FFXII themed game. However... thinking back retrospectively, I think what they should do is just create an MMORPG called "Final Fantasy Online" and just have that game become an ever growing, always updating and never ending game - OR - they could just create a series of MMORPG games that would fall under the "Final Fantasy Online" umbrella and allow people to chose which of the various FF MMO games they would like subscribe and play for and perhaps give you a discounted rate if you were to subscribe to multiple games. That would have been cool...

    • @kaihedgie1747
      @kaihedgie1747 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No
      There was a reason why that nonsense was ditched

    • @kaihedgie1747
      @kaihedgie1747 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No one but masochists (certainly not diehard fans) would pay to put up with 1.0's grievances and "adapt"
      The game's design wasn't beautiful, it was buggy, bloated and sluggish. No ifs ands or buts about it. It was what it was, a mess. Areas and assets recycled ad nauseum to artificially increase the size of the world, an unintuitive battle system that's too slow, a bugged and inconvenient crafting system that destroys more than it creates and that's not even getting into
      Also, your elemental tangent was brought back in Eureka. All the elemental triangles are back in full force

    • @YukitoKunNeptune
      @YukitoKunNeptune 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's the nonsense that there are people who fail to understand and appreciate the beauty that is FFXIV 1.0 is why the reason why the game was ditched. True there were other reasons that amount to the game's problems, however, those who had realized that despite the game's faults and was able to adapt, adjust and attune to the restrictions, limitations and obstacles of the game's world were they able to overcome the problems presented before them and make the game work. And soon overtime one Yoshi-P had taken over as producer, the game had gradually gotten better and by the time of versions 1.20-1.23, the game was dramatically improved from what it once was to the point where it could be passed as an acceptable. And I'm sure some of those, if not all, who had played during those patches would even agree with me.
      Now, I will reason that from a business standpoint, releasing and launching a gaming product that was inevitably unplayable or rather... disfavored by the majority of gamers of this generation when comparing FFXIV to the current popular games of that time is a major upset both for the gaming company and the gaming community as a whole. From a consumer point of view, it was like buying rotten unusable produce at a grocery store; spending money on something worthless. On the other hand from a technical standpoint, the game coding for the game would probably function better for single player games or games where the ideal pace for them tend to be very slow. However, at that point in time, people wanted fast pace games and didn't have a lot of time to spend on grinding through games only to come to a halt placed by game's system itself: The Fatigue System. Of course now, what we have to settle with is a fatigue system that is placed by the administration of the game itself: A Weekly Tomestone/Token System. Combine with the fact that FFXIV 1.0 had other various issues is what caused the game to be a failure and later on ditched.
      Despite these problems though, the game's design was still beautiful even if the execution of the game was a failure. AND THIS... is why I had said to bring back vanilla FFXIV and would always support it, not just because of nostalgia, but because to me, disregarding the difficulty, limitations and restrictions, FFXIV was a revolutionary and innovative revival change to the Final Fantasy games in the past while still staying true to the feel of Final Fantasy. One of the main reasons for as to why I feel this way is that there is no elemental system in FFXIV:ARR. When FFXIV 1.0 was first launch, it had a working elemental system that is consistent in all Final Fantasy games. While not having one works well for FFXIV:ARR and the current pace of modern games, not having one de-illusionizes the feeling of Final Fantasy or rather all types of fantasy games all together. The second reason is for what seemed liked a re-invisioned idea for a BLM was the Conjurer class/job which reminded me of the Elementalist job from the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance/Advance II games where the power source of magic was based on nature itself rather than sorcery. And so FFXIV 1.0 seemed to comprised all the necessary feelings of what a Final Fantasy game should be: A new world with it's own history/lore, a world that comprised of it's own set of rules and regulations for both combat and magic, a user interface that differentiated it different from past Final Fantasy games, and lastly... it was a game that caused you to learn, think and understand how it works in order for you, the player/gamer, to full appreciate it. THAT is why FFXIV 1.0 or rather... FFXIV 1.0 when Yoshi-P had taken over was great.
      Honestly... FFXIV:ARR will never feel like another Final Fantasy game to me since the way I see it... FFXIV:ARR, just like Pokemon GO, is just a fake imitation of what once was real...

    • @acedianPianist
      @acedianPianist 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@YukitoKunNeptune Since nobody will say it: you're fucking insane. The game's textures were subpar for the time, the horrible optimization and nightmarish code-base would have crippled the game's development, the places that looked fantastic were ... well, unplayably laggy for most, and in design completely impractical. The combat was beyond atrocious and not actually the 'fresh' and "revolutionary and innovative revival" you claim it was.
      The element system was thrown out as were the old styles of Conjury and Thaumaturgy (which were accounted for in lore), which is a loss, but the loss of elements also forced the developers to focus on movement and fight mechanics as opposed to statistical balancing, which makes FFXIV of today the actual fresh entry in both MMO gaming and the rest of the series that you claim 1.0 was.
      The statement that "at the time people wanted fast paced games because they didn't have time to grind" is a laughably unsupported assumption that belies the truth that 1.0 FFXIV was just boring and grindy by design. Also, the comparison to mobile games' "fatigue points system" and the Tomestone grind is trite and irrelevant - there is a stupid amount of stuff that you can do without relying on grinding tomestones, you aren't held down and forced to stop playing just because you hit the cap for Tomestones, lmao.
      The "design" of the game did not excuse the shortcomings of 1.X - of which there were many. The story was awful, the core gameplay wasn't acceptable even with patches, the improvements weren't nearly dramatic enough to warrant subscription. For every pretty thing, there was an obnoxious slog to get there to see it, or otherwise it was marred by the game chugging, or otherwise just wrapped in ugly copy-paste surroundings.
      Like, the majority opinion - and it is an educated opinion - is that there was nothing to appreciate underneath the arbitrary design decisions slathered on 1.X. Your claims amount to Stockholm Syndrome, and even if the demand was high for 1.0, it's never coming back. The code is outright gone. Done. Finito.
