    Hi! I just found a baby bird. I have dozens and dozens of different types of birds that eat the seed I throw out onto my courtyard, and there are so many nests around, that I have no clue what this one is lol! A second, larger but similar baby was found yesterday. I'm sure it's in the trying to fly stage, so I just fed it and set it behind my lattice and later the father came to feed it. ...it was a cardinal! 😍 This is a whole new awesome world! !

    Great job on feeding it! it is definitely a starling. I feed mine a hand feeding formula made of avian vitamins, squished up dry cat food and applesauce. it is doing so well! I read on various sites that earthworms can carry a parasite that kills...so no earthworms for my little birdie!
    Again great jod for 'adopting' him or her!👍

    I'm so glad I found this video. I too raised a baby starling. I was at our local Lowes where the birds fly in and out and build nests. While I was there a clerk was coming through the store doors into the garden area and I heard this screeching, looked down and she was pushing a baby bird out of the way with her foot. She stated that they always are falling out of the nests! I reached down and picked him up, looked around to see where I could set him out of harms way. I didn't know what to do, so I took him inside the store, got some dry meal worm , went to the cashier and told her I was taking him home. I could go on and on but, make a long story short, that was 3wks and 4 days ago.I took him outside last night, tried to set him on a sumac limb, he veered to the left and headed down in the back yard towards the trees! So I'm thinking 'Junior' is ok and living a good life. Maybe I"ll see him when I'm out working in the yard?!

      How wonderful, Donna! They learn quickly. I didn't feed the girl, once she was big enough to fend for herself and then saw how she went to other birds for food. of course, they looked at her as if she was crazy, they were different species. I felt so bad but she needed to learn. the last video shows her high on a branch. she grew very strong. your baby will be fine.😊

      Thanks Weise Dame. I fed him wet meal worm for about a week and a half. Then put the dry in his cage.( I let him out to build up his wings ) He ate and drank on his own, was able to Stay in flight so I knew he was close. I was sitting in the garage with him last night and he kept pacing back and forth in front of the garage door screen. Picked him up walked out back, voile!!

      Birds are hardier than we think - If we let them sleep and feed them when they ask, avoid handling them, they have good instincts and generally survive.

      *****
      i fed him/her some minced raw meat with some dirt on it. i did not want to leave it hungry during night. i am going to petshop tomorrow. thanks for replying so much!

      ***** Update. My little Chip is doing well. The zoo shop did not have earthworms, but they had some feed which i mix with water and i feed him meat with earth. Chip must be much older than the baby in your video because even though he does not have full feathers he flaps around a lot and likes walking with me for earthworm hunt. Yesterday we had picnic near the river and he kept climbing up my husband and jumping down.

      @lotooky4461  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Goodness, it seemed that I did nothing but feed this baby. Honestly, I believed it was every two hours. In daytime hours only. They do sleep at night but it will keep you busy all day.

    • @lotooky4461
      @lotooky4461  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer your specific question, I would say that if we go by every two hours and we have 12 hours of daytime, it would be at least six times in a day. Hope that helps.

    I just found two baby starlings they where pushed out of the nest by their mother, I returned them twice to the nest thinking they had just fell out but then I realized their mother kept pushing them out.
    They are so cute ! I have been feeding them canned cat food and also lafeber's instant nutri start baby bird formula, they look exactly like the bird in your video ! Great video by the way and thank God you saved him or her ! You are wonderful to have helped her may God Bless u for all your good works !!
    Question for u though .....They squak all day though but sleep at night, did your bird do that or no? I have been feeding them every two hours in the day time. Please let me know Thanks !!

      @Weise Dame; Hello ! And thanks so much ! I was wondering though if its normal for them to chirp alot after you feed them?? Because these two do that all day and I am feeding them every two hrs, So I,m wondering if they are chirping because they are still hungry? or because they just do that? Did yours chirp alot all day after being fed?? Oh and I named them Huey and Duey LOL !!

    • @lotooky4461
      @lotooky4461  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, Huey and Duey. Sweet. No, Cj, the girl went to sleep as soon as she was full. You can see in the videos. I truly do not know enough about birds - maybe yours are different. I fed her earthworms most of the time. I got mealworms for her also and, went she got bigger, I tried a grub. Then, when she learned to spend the night outside, I took her "hunting" for beetles - she loved those. No, when she was little, she slept in between feedings but I kept her in a box covered with a dark piece of cloth - maybe she thought it was night?

      Oh ok that prob what it is then, see I dont cover them up with a towel over their heads like your bird was, mine I just use Tshirts in a basket put in a circle to resemble a makeshift nest, but theres nothing over their heads, I will try to find a box maybe to put them in that way I can place a towel over the top of the box then they might go nite nites during the day after feeding, this is a good idea thanks so much for your help !!

    • @lotooky4461
      @lotooky4461  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Cj, I had to cover her to protect her because I have a dog and didn't want her to escape and wander about. This meant that when that bird began to make noise, she truly was hungry!

    What about water? Mines still in the egg breathing, he was the last one in the nest abandoned the others died, I'm trying save a 🐦 life 😄

    I have found a little starling very small and I have to make a chirp noise to make him eat does that mean he is not hungry please help

    • @lotooky4461
      @lotooky4461  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      he doesn't eat for hours unless you make the noise? I'm not an expert. The one I found asked for food after she got used to me. She was shy at first. The beak open reflex is automatic every time someone approaches the nest. I kept her in a dark place. in a box with bedding, Like the beanie cap.

    Hi, I have starling I'm raising and I was wondering what you feed adults? I got some Orlux insect patee but it's mostly filler.
    Is there a commercial food I can buy locally?

    • @lotooky4461
      @lotooky4461  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Molly, these birds are predators and live on an insect diet. They like meal worms - I purchased a big package through Amazon of live meal worms. Be very careful unwrapping it, if you do, because the worms are fast crawlers and try to escape. Some people feed them soft cat food when they're young but I am not familiar with anyone keeping them as adults. They usually go back to the wild and learn to hunt for themselves. I have one last video with my girl, where it shows how she stood close to me, while hunting for beetles - that's how I taught her to hunt for food and fend for herself.

      Hi the whole thing is amazing you have done a grand job. She will be in her juvenile stage for the first season then she will turn speckled black, shes a little character. Ive reared a few wild birds over the years and you come to love them. At the moment im rearing a blackbird (song bird variety) shes around 9 days old and changing daily. A neighbours cat brought her in miraculously unharmed. I will watch the rest of your videos thankyou for your message. Rob.

      Hello, no, I was able to help her integrate to a flock. She did come by a couple of times, to hunt for beetles with me but then she migrated. There is a bird that always calls out when she flies over my yard and I want to think that it is her. :)
