Brittni was very vocal in trans subreddits, it’s so sad that she couldn’t be herself in peace. Her wife did her makeup and wigs. She was always smiling and a ray of sunshine. It’s so sad that people feel entitled to out people like this. As her male alter ego she was described as the heart of their town, and did a great job as mayor during a hurricane that leveled a part of the town.
"Embracing your true self" is melodramatic way of putting something that should really be taken though a more down to earth lens. By being too sentimental about it, you invite people to call transpeople narcissists. If you need something to eat but you can't eat right this moment because you have some kind of social obligation to fulfill you're not "embracing your true self" by deciding to eat anyway and maybe trying to conceal it so you don't get caught out. Transexuality is the same. It's not that some people embrace it and other deny it -- if you're transgender you _need_ to act it out and if you don't your very psyche to tear itself in half so that the right hand can feign ignorance while the left hand fulfills that need. Transgenderism is too often framed in terms of comfort and preference when, in the long term, it is a _need_ and if it isn't fulfilled, it leads to suffering and death just like starvation. This poor woman was psychologically starved to death.
Try that in a small town! Those people are just nasty! People in small towns always say how accepting they are, until it is someone who is different to them :(

"Outing" is much more about society than it is about themselves. People open themselves up to a lot of hate, harassment and social pressure by coming out. Depression, su*cide etc. are entirely possible when people feel they are not validated or even despised just for who they are. In conservative states even more so. EXTREME example. (Hyperbole) You're openly proclaiming you're jewish in a community of Neo-Naz*s. EVEN WORSE if SOMEONE ELSE tells on you.
Bubba Copeland posted pictures of real local high school kids on a fetish community. They were brother and sister. He used pictures of the boy and girl for fictional transition before and after pictures, because the fetish community was based on erotica around transitioning. Copeland also wrote an erotic story about killing a real life local woman and stealing her identity, and used her real name and name of her business. Having fetishes which involved actual people in his community without them knowing might speak to mental health issues, or may have factored into the death itself due to the nature of them and his career.

There are some things that just don’t need to be public knowledge, that would be so terribly devastating to the affected individual that there’s no coming back from once the public knows, and we all have that one thing about us that people don’t need to know.
Dude was not a good guy and he was about to brought up on charges related to him using images and names of local women when writing erotic stories fantasizing about killing them and assuming their identity. I think that might have had something to do with his decision to end his own life. This should be part of the story. It’s not just about him killing himself because he was outed.
He's also not a good guy cuz he's a conservative republican politician. If my random ass neighbor who's a conservative republican bigoted electrician is on the DL, I'd think twice before outting him. But my conservative republican politicians are getting outed any chance I get. And if they aren't around to tell the tale, even better.
The paper might get sued. Bubba DID write erotica wherein he kills one of his constituents, identifiable by real name and real occupation, and assumes her identity. The paper might argue that this type of exposé is necessary because he posed a threat to her. We'll have to see. It's sad that he killed himself, he left behind a family, a congregation, and a lot of constituents. He was loved, but I'm not sure how loved he would be by his deep-red district after the revelations. That's the unfortunate reality of being LGBT in conservative Republican America. One things for sure though - all across America, there are plenty of buttoned-up Christian conservatives living freaky double lives. Remember Ted Haggard?
You don’t get to choose the results of your actions, you only get to choose your actions. Maybe the journalists should have respected her wishes to keep her trans identity private, but it is newsworthy imo. The problem here is that we live in a society where she’d prefer death over living openly as she wanted to in a safe manner.
I think the issue is not that they're being outed, I think it's that they're not safe and don't feel safe when they can openly be their true self. It's also because of the horrible upbringing where judgement for others and self-judgement if you are different is internalized
If anything he was outed for hypocrisy. He claimed to be a devout example of Christian morality while not following those norms in his own life. I disagree with many of those norms and don't think this guy is a bad person or deserved outing, but he was a hypocrite and that's why this happened.

They/them are singular pronouns. They’re older than the singular pronoun “you” and have been used in English since Chaucer’s era. Also, there is no way inventing neopronouns is going to advance the cause. It’s only going to make people hate us even more than they already do.
And this is why religion is absolutely not harmless and needs to go into the trash bin of history. Adults believing in fairy tales is cute until it's not.
Religion has absolutely had positive impacts before, though. FDR was motivated to launch the New Deal, in part, by his dedication to Christianity and by Jesus' teachings about the downtrodden. Islam has been fundamental in promoting religious freedom, with Muslim countries before the rise of Wahabbism and other far-right extremist interpretations being relatively tolerant of dissenting faiths. Much of the environmentalist movement in Mongolia is energized by the legacy of Tengriism.
