Instead of Taylor Swift's concert stadium the Philippine government should put up football stadiums introduce this sport to young kids, support and guide them and for sure we will have a lot of Nesta.
It is time for football to be the number one sport in the Philippines. It is not very well known to Filipinos but we have Paulino Alcantara from Iloilo City, he played for FC Barcelona from 1912 to 1927 and in 399 games he made 395 goals he has won 5 Spanish Championships and 10 Catalan Championships.

Wow 15 years with FC Barcelona is incredible, much more to be selected to play with this team is a feat. My parents are from Iloilo and knowing that someone from my native province got the chance to play with this team makes me more proud.
Yes, I think it’s about time the Philippine sport commission or who ever is in charge with Philippine sports should invest more on sports where we have the potential to win. Less investment on basketball I personally say, for the simple reason that we don’t have the height to compete with the other towering nationals. Soccer is one sport where you don’t have to be incredibly tall… also with gymnastics. I was so happy when the women’s team qualified in the 2023 World Cup, meaning to say we have a chance in this sport to excel.
This boy has a good future in soccer. I hope people with good hearts are able to fund his training to keep his dreams going. The politicians should support young athletes and come up with a really good program if we want to compete with the rest of the world rather than pocketing the funds for their own personal use.😊

We have so many half european players. It's just that they don't get utilized properly. If we're a good team, big names like David Alaba would've played for the PH national team. If they started recruiting half pinoy players abroad, just like what our basketball team doing lately, then it would benefit a lot for this country. My daughter played in that tournament with a different club😊 Yes, football is a rich man's sport, particularly in Manila. We are actually not from Manila. We had to sacrifice a lot when she decided that she wanted to be a football player. We had to move her to homeschool to cut cost and have enough resources to put her in the best training programs. So far she's been doing well, and improving. If i have to compare our yearly expenses for football, it's more than what you spend for tuition in a year in the most expensive University in the Philippines. I know it will be all worth it

That's strange to hear, because in most other countries football is a poor or working man's sport. Many of the top players like Maradona, Di Maria, Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldo R9, Rooney, Sanchez, Robinho, Tevez, Ibrahimovic, Suarez, Riquelme, Rivaldo, etc all came from poor or working class backgrounds.

    • @kitty_s23456
      @kitty_s23456 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@sebfox2194 yes, those players that you mentioned all came from humble backgrounds. The thing is, there is a football culture in their countries. There are many clubs in the countryside where a kid can learn & improve his football skills.
In PH, the main sport played & watched is basketball, 2nd is volleyball. Basketball was introduced to PH by the Americans when PH was colonized by them. Almost every town has a basketball court. Football (soccer) fields are few & far between. If a kid wants to learn & train in football, the kid's parents has to enroll him in extra lessons (usually during weekends) and there's a cost.
The kid featured in this docu, though relatively poor, was only able to be in the football academy because he's a scholar. Most of his companions are from rich or middle class families.

My son plays in the PFL, and played in the Thai League before for several years. There's no money in playing in the PFL. There's very little support for grassroots football and if you can't afford expensive academy training, very few opportunities for kids to play. Not enough pitches, not enough qualified coaches. The PFF really needs to concentrate resources into grassroots football.

That is true, with the lack of facilities to practice the craft of football here in the Philippines. Sadly now it's really just for the rich. I love the passion of Nesta, I know someday he will make us proud of our national team.

My grandfather who became a uk citizen used to send us football shoes and soccerball for us grand children but we do not have facilities and friend who where interested in football. everyone back in 80's and 90's pinoy kid's where into basketball. i used to watch football on a very short segment in gilletes sports channel and thats it. now im at my 40's and still have regrets of learning it as i know football was a big thing except philippines. I wish pinoy kids should be more expose into football and other sports.

Correct, the govt doesn't support football/ soccer when it's a sport that Filipinos have the possibility to excel in. Even short people can play football in an international level, unlike basketball where you need tall people. In high school, I had a classmate who was originally from Manila. He was short but he was our batch's star player during competitions because he was very fast & agile.
I hope that this kid Nesta, despite his size & financial situation, can achieve his dreams of being an international athlete.

This young individual has a promising future. He possesses ambition, determination, and intelligence. I commend Nesta's parents for responsibly supporting his life aspirations. I sincerely hope and pray that our government, particularly the local government units, will also investment in sports infrastructure and parks where children can pursue their dreams.

Nice documentary. CNA should also show the basketball culture in the Philippines. Football is presented here because ASEAN, a major consumer of these shows, can relate more to a football journey than a basketball one. However, ASEAN basketball is the Philippines. CNA should present how the Philippines is world-class in basketball and what it takes for ASEAN to reach our level.
For Nesta, I wish you the best on your sporting journey... Other parents would always say why prioritize sport?
For me, as long as my kid has good grades, he can always dream big, go for the PBA if needed! Having a business and working at an office is always a second option. 😊

Actually Filipinos can excel in Football more than Basketball because you dont have to be very tall to play professional football but you need good footwork, stamina and agility. However, its really a sports where mostly middle class and upper class kids play because we dont have a lot of imprastructure for football in the Philippines.

I agree with you. Football is popular in Iloilo province because the football pitches are open to the public. They are found in plazas. Good examples are La Paz (Iloilo City), Santa Barbara, and Barotac Nuevo. In some towns, they are found in public schools. One example is Guimbal. Here in my place, they are in private schools and colleges. So football ends up as a sport for the rich.

The biggest difference between average kids who plays basketball in Philippines to kids who plays football in other countries, is Filipino kids cannot dream of becoming Lebron while kids in countries like Brazil can dream of becoming neymar, messi, or ronaldo. I hope Filipino sees football as a sport for everyone which doesn't require as much physical genetic gifts compared to other sports.

I luckily grew up near a football field where we also played baseball here in the Philippines. And growing up in the 90s, watching Brazil and R9, i fell in love with the game. We were lucky coz there would be players that was willing to coach us. Taught us everything, like skills, passing, about the rules etc. There was a huge wall and we would practice our shooting and shot power there. I still remember saving for my first spike shoes and shin guard. 😂 then we began entering competitions and we dominated schools in our district coz we are fortunate enough to have a field to practice on. 😅 our coach taught us one touch football, we were not that perfect but i remember our coach would take us to manila for friendly games with kids from big schools like ateneo etc. Not everyone in the team was permitted to come tho coz parents are strict. Anyway, i'm just glad that the love for futbol is still in some filipinos. I hope it gets big someday. Bigger than when the Azkals introduced the game to some new fans ❤
