@@brianzaborowski2724 look up Callie Day she is g a beautiful rendition of this song as well... thank you so much Patty for this song it touched me in every way it's a beautiful song and you sing it so eloquently...
When we lost our sin, Nick, 11 years ago to addiction, my daughter Vanessa and her friend Talia sang this absolutely beautiful song. You could've heard a pin drop when they finished. Change must come .. " sooner or later". Please Lord.
This song means a lot to me. I played it for my mom one day while we were in my car and it touched her and made her cry. A few months later I had it played at her funeral as one last tribute to her. Every time I hear it, I think of my wonderful mom and how much I love and miss her.
Thank you Dr. King for your vision, determination and courage. You keep us walking "up to the mountain" in the face of prejudice, discrimination and hatred.
This song touches a part of me that I can't describe. Her voice is truly just meant for every lyric and every musical movement. It is also the song I sang to my father on his death bed. He was unable to speak yet had tears falling down his cheeks. A song that was truly inspired...no way around it. Bless you Patty.
One of the most gut wrenching and soulful songs about someone who heeded the call from the Almighty, knew the outcome and did it anyway. Beautiful tribute
Patty Griffin is peaking with this song! Some people do not know music period. Patty is incredible singing, composing. One of the greats of our time. This song tears at your heart, it is done with the emotion only Patty can do, because she wrote this. WOW!
This and Top of the World get me every time. I have to be careful when and where I listen to them because I never know if or how badly the tears will flow. No one does it like her, nobody!
I know it was written by Patti. I was trying to assist Ted Evan in his question on where or who he thought he'd heard it. Like a lot of ppl I knew the Dixie Chicks version. Didn't know of PG until years later.
When a song touches that indescribable place in everyone that is beauty. Patty sings this with every fiber of her being. And she reaches every fiber within us.

Patty, I would be honored to be buried next to you. Your sound and soul resonate with mine. You see a place not many people can see...some come to that vision because of influence from others and some come to that vision because they have seen the worst and best of mankind, with dissolution and reality hammering our faith flat and almost to nothing. I'm the latter but that thin sliver of faith does sometimes give a feeling of hope. Love you, brad
I get this song - deep in my soul - I get it - God asks me to do things I don't feel worthy to do or capable of doing - but He whispers to me, and I follow - but when I look around me, and I see so many that are lost and I see my son beginning to sink into a life of drugs, knowing I've lost family to drugs - I wonder what difference I can make - but then He whispers that I am not alone - I must have faith - I must trust in my God.
I love her voice and the fact that she is not trying to be some, sexy diva. She is being herself and that makes her a sexy, diva of a real caliber. Keep up the awesome singing Patty!

I went up to the mountain
Because you asked me to
Up over the clouds
To where the sky was blue
I could see all around me
Everywhere
I could see all around me
Everywhere
Sometimes I feel like
I never been nothing but tired
And I'll be working
'Til the day I expire
Sometimes I lay down
No more can I do
But then I go on again
Because you asked me to
Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
Then I hear your sweet voice
Come and then go
Come and then go
Telling me softly
You love me so
The peaceful valley
Just over the mountain
The peaceful valley
Few come to know
I may never get there
Ever in this lifetime
But sooner or later
It's there I will go
Sooner or later
It's there I will go
