- Picture a fly fisher and what do you see...A rod and reel? Cap and glasses? Waders? Maybe even a fish!
Did you picture them in a life jacket? Probably not. Despite the obvious safety benefits, it's no secret that the majority of anglers still prefer to fish without one.
Designed for a wide range of water-based activities, the ALTO is an inflatable flotation device worn around the waist. Manually operated, the inflatable tube is released from the waist pack and then supports the user under the arms and around the chest.
Lightweight, compact and discrete, the ALTO is a simple-to use-emergency inflation aid that can be deployed should you encounter difficulty in the water.

Great idea! One thing that has boggled my mind is these guys wearing waders while drift boat fishing without a life jacket! An accident looking for a place to happen 😳
I get the concern, and drift boats definitely should have life boats on board for wear in Class 3 water and above. This being said, waders filled with water do not sink the wearer, the water equalizes (one is not heavier than the other).
@@RedFeatherAngler true, but people die every year because of waders. The issue comes when an angler has fallen in, the waders have filled, or partially filled with water, and they try and get back in the boat/up a steep bank.
The extra weight of the water now in the waders prevents them from pulling themselves out.
They will often become very cold and fatigued, and lose strength to hold on.

Would this work if you had a backpack and on and it was worn on the back as well under the backpack?
It can be worn front or back. I have one, you don’t even notice it around your waist. Never had to use it, don’t know how much lift it gives, I should probably test it because I fish in heavy currents.
