    My ex used to play this piece slowly for me because I was in love with his cello playing and when I told him I loved this song, he knew it right away. I still love it even now.

    this is amazing , i know you are intentionally playing it slow for educational purposes but slower tempo has its own magic and meditation. i hate when art and music have critics , like why should i listen to your perspective ? are you the creator of sound and colors? music is felt in its essence i think and this verson of suite 1 prelude exudes its own beauty

    finallly one performance with a more lean attitude and calm tempo which i very strongly belife to be the best sounding and actually the indented by Bach himself one!!!!!

      I can not understand why most musicans these days thing this has to be played with the f....ing same attitude as mozarts marriage of the figarro.... This Version ist the right ONE!!!! GREAT JOB

      Thank you, I was taught to be humble when it comes to interpreting works of great composers of the past. It is very rewarding to let their music to speak without trying to show off your own personality. It is impossible (and unnecessary) to avoid adding personal touch. I believe it works the best when musician's ego is kept in the background.

Then of course I learned that there were also 5 more suites. You play this a a tempo that allows one to see every nuance of what is going on. Thank you so much...I hope this video is still around when I am ready to begin this piece.

    Since 2017 I play the cello and I am now at the 5th position and learning the tenor key. But the more I learn, the more difficult I have to play this piece. I think I will never be able to play it. My fingers are very short. They are the same length as my son from 6 years old, so I'm not joking. It is a kind of frustration to realize that I have to accept my faith that I never can play it. Still good job and I love your video's. I was a Patreon but because of financial reasons I had to quit. But as soon as my budget allows it, I will subscribe again! You are the best cello instructor and you play so beautifully.

    • @Cellopedia
      @Cellopedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are very welcome! There are so many different ways to play Bach. Most of experienced cellists choose to use their own "unique" bowings. I used this one note per bow bowings to make it as clear/easy as possible for cello students. When I perform Bach suites in life concerts, I often change bowings - nothing stays the same in our life :)

    Which bowing version do use? I am working on this piece using the Bahrenreiter version which has the first three notes slurred. Is there an alternate way to play without the slurs? Thank you very much for this video.

    • @Cellopedia
      @Cellopedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bahrenreiter is my favorite edition. I suggest it to all of my students. However, when we play Bach for a long time, we usually start customizing bowing to fit our new ideas. One of the bowing versions I tried in the past was one note per bow. I liked it a lot for its simplicity which allows to keep a performer in a background. This also seemed to be the most effective for slow tempo demonstration. All the best in your cello studies!

    i just noticed differences in the way you are playing this and the notation of the 27th measure on the score that i have from imslp. mine has "agfgedcb" for the first 8 notes while a newer version i have is "agfggecb" which sounds like what you are playing. which is correct or why is there differences?

    • @Cellopedia
      @Cellopedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are dozens of different editions of Bach cello suites. The original manuscript is lost. Several copies made from that manuscript have number of differences. You may follow the edition you have or choose another one. Bärenreiter and Henle editions considered to be one of the most reputable, but nobody can say for sure what was in the manuscript.
