On November 3, 1975, Good Morning America debuted on ABC. On that first show, David Hartman explains the purpose of the broadcast, and introduced his co-host Nancy Dussalt. The first sports score were Pittsburgh 30 and Cincinnati 24. The first hour has the People in the News segment, a government bails out New York City, Rona Barrett gives an entertainment report, comic Jonathan Winters talks about Jaws, a story of Bourbon the banking St. Bernard, and Geraldo Riviera reports on alcoholism. In the talkback segment, Nancy Dussalt talks about traffic cops. In the GMA On the Money segment, David Hartman and Nancy Dussalt talk about diet products. In the final segment, Hartman discusses a controversial custody case.🙂
I remember on the Buffalo NY ABC affiliate (WKBW-TV)-there was a children's show that had been on the air for 14 years (Rocketship 7-hosted by Dave Thomas)-it ran each morning from 7-9 AM-they didn't carry GMA until the network literally forced them to---they tried to start the show at 6 AM but it didn't last and Rocketship 7 went off the air thanks to GMA and Hartman
Before there was "Good Morning America" on ABC, there was "The Today Show" on NBC! And so far, they are popular enough to be relevant enough in the mornings today!
the first host of GMA David Hartman had an enormous ego--both of his first two female cohosts (Nancy Dussault and Sandy Hill) couldn't stand working with him--ABC put up with Hartman because the ratings were solid-when they hired Joan Lunden she was told to stay out of his "limelight" and Lunden essentially did so
That original GMA tune brings back so many memories!
40 years and still going strong. Congrats on a big milestone GMA.

I wish ABC would put all GMA episodes up on TH-cam, especially 1980 and 1990s ones.
You made it on my 10th B-Day.

Yeah, I had a friend who worked at ABC who said he was a ball-buster.
Happy 45th Birthday 🎂 Good Morning America.
It's predecessor AM America did not cut it.
I actually thought that was a little boy in the middle. Like one of them brought their son.
