Actually, unless you're going to start shillings a big part of your pocket for vinegar, it doesn't do anything to prevent mould I mean a big part And if you are, using distilled vinegar is more cost effective and doesn't reduce any upsides (except maybe if you like the smell of acv)

The vinegar is for more than mold! It provides nutrients to the plant in place of soil. Otherwise they would only be able to grow so much before the nutrients stored in the seed run dry and the plant dies. Id recommending mixing a little vinegar in when watering though too, every now and then, to make sure your guinea pigs are getting good nutrients from the grass and not just leftovers the grass stores.

He’s only growing it till day 10, so no there is no fertilizer necessary from day 1-10? If you wanted to continue growth you’d eventually need to, but not for this usage. He literally said he waters once a day, and somebody else said this is barley. Not that any of this should matter to you, “I want to grow a tray of grass like that for no reason”

Apple cider vinegar is great against mold. You can even spray some if you find some pesky mold while cleaning up your bathroom to help remove it without going full nuclear chemicals

I guess the same amount as in the video should be fine. But I'm sure there should be something online. I see some people recommending that you soak the seeds in bleach first, that should definitely be diluted 1:10 with water in my opinion and then even rinsed with clean water.
Dilute hydrogen peroxide is a good sterilization/germination treatment, depending on the type of seed. I prefer it to bleach. Do note that hydrogen peroxide damages organic material indiscriminately; it can be harmless or helpful on a seed coating but you don't want to use it on a growing plant unless carefully applied at a proper dilution to kill off rot/mold. There's a lot of misguided advice that treats it like a miracle cure.

@@richardmillhousenixon that depends on seed quality those seem extremely healthy which means no spores, or mycelium, so very little disinfection is required (just for airborne spores, and if the site is clear there should be very little of those as well)
They will be so happy! I used to grow pasture gra ss for my buns. They would devour it! So happy they "thumped" at me when I came in with it. I never did any chemicals at that area of grass. Cats would join them eating the grass. They never had any vomiting post grass eating.

For anyone who is confused, the seeds contain enough nutrients to get the grass to nearly that level as long as they get enough water. If he left it like that eventually it would die or a couple that pushed their roots through the holes might live. Mostly they just need water and sunlight. Depriving plants of soil basically is like giving them plant rickets. In a case like this it's fine otherwise you need aquaponics
Idk, but feeding too much spring grass, etc...to guinea pigs can cause digestive issues (just like horses) this is a wheat grass, so I'm guessing breaks down differently, + he has a lot of them grazing on it.
I started out with one tray for my chickens and quickly went to raising three trays. I also use the Braggs vinegar to make a fermented chicken food. The goats also love the grass, but you had to cut it into small cubes for them to be able to eat it.
My last cat would’ve LOVED this. I’d take him out on supervised backyard outings just so he could sit & eat grass like a little cow lol My current cats don’t much care for greens yet, but maybe someday!
white Vinger would work better, depends on the duration that you leave whatever your growing in water, apple works good in this case as its only a short period, but for longer periods of time white Vinger is preferred

My comments probably gonna go under but you can make a self watering system with some threads which lead into a bigger water container. You can stick a few through the holes and make a knot so it doesnt slip out. With a big thread the plants will pull the water up through the thread and water themself.
Can you list your supplies? I want to do this for my mini lops they love fresh grass but it's winter in Minnesota right now so no grass around. It would be a nice treat for them. Thank you!! ❤
Don’t know if this helps but I planted Winter Rye in my front yard one winter and the wild rabbits showed up every night like it was a free salad buffet. Also I got it off Amazon it was I think a 50 pound bag.

IIRC grass contains silica, which is why it is bad for the teeth of animals who haven't evolved to eat it. Do you know if this grass would lack that silica? Or is there silicon in the seeds?

Birds are super sensitive to a lot of things including pesticide and fungicide so I would want to be sure that it hasnt been treated - i guess I'd need to specifically look for organic or the like

The vinegar is for more than mold! It provides nutrients to the plant in place of soil.
Otherwise they would only be able to grow so much before the nutrients stored in the seed run dry and the plant dies.
Id recommending mixing a little vinegar in when watering though too, every now and then, to make sure your guinea pigs are getting good nutrients from the grass and not just leftovers the grass stores.

I guess the same amount as in the video should be fine. But I'm sure there should be something online. I see some people recommending that you soak the seeds in bleach first, that should definitely be diluted 1:10 with water in my opinion and then even rinsed with clean water.
Dilute hydrogen peroxide is a good sterilization/germination treatment, depending on the type of seed. I prefer it to bleach. Do note that hydrogen peroxide damages organic material indiscriminately; it can be harmless or helpful on a seed coating but you don't want to use it on a growing plant unless carefully applied at a proper dilution to kill off rot/mold. There's a lot of misguided advice that treats it like a miracle cure.
@@marcellekeet5I think for the duration of time we're seeing, ACV is fine against mold. If you want to keep it for any longer, then regular white vinegar and/or the bleach soak thingy

those seem extremely healthy which means no spores, or mycelium, so very little disinfection is required (just for airborne spores, and if the site is clear there should be very little of those as well)

They will be so happy! I used to grow pasture gra ss for my buns. They would devour it! So happy they "thumped" at me when I came in with it. I never did any chemicals at that area of grass. Cats would join them eating the grass. They never had any vomiting post grass eating.

For anyone who is confused, the seeds contain enough nutrients to get the grass to nearly that level as long as they get enough water. If he left it like that eventually it would die or a couple that pushed their roots through the holes might live. Mostly they just need water and sunlight. Depriving plants of soil basically is like giving them plant rickets. In a case like this it's fine otherwise you need aquaponics

Idk, but feeding too much spring grass, etc...to guinea pigs can cause digestive issues (just like horses) this is a wheat grass, so I'm guessing breaks down differently, + he has a lot of them grazing on it.

I started out with one tray for my chickens and quickly went to raising three trays. I also use the Braggs vinegar to make a fermented chicken food. The goats also love the grass, but you had to cut it into small cubes for them to be able to eat it.

white Vinger would work better, depends on the duration that you leave whatever your growing in water, apple works good in this case as its only a short period, but for longer periods of time white Vinger is preferred

My comments probably gonna go under but you can make a self watering system with some threads which lead into a bigger water container. You can stick a few through the holes and make a knot so it doesnt slip out. With a big thread the plants will pull the water up through the thread and water themself.

Don’t know if this helps but I planted Winter Rye in my front yard one winter and the wild rabbits showed up every night like it was a free salad buffet. Also I got it off Amazon it was I think a 50 pound bag.

Carbon is obtained from the atmosphere during photosynthesis, while hydrogen and oxygen is obtained from water. For short lived purposes like this, no nutrients from the soil are required (however, that also means the plants grown in this manner have little nutritional value beyond the energy provided by carbohydrates).
IIRC grass contains silica, which is why it is bad for the teeth of animals who haven't evolved to eat it. Do you know if this grass would lack that silica? Or is there silicon in the seeds?

@@DES.REVER.DESIGNSgrass seeds are often treated with bird repellent, that's why they're blue.... most of them are like that. What this guy is growing isn't really lawn grass so the treatment isn't that important.

Birds are super sensitive to a lot of things including pesticide and fungicide so I would want to be sure that it hasnt been treated - i guess I'd need to specifically look for organic or the like
