CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Nancy (Blake Lively) tries to retrieve the surfer's GoPro camera in 30 seconds before the shark has time to return.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Still reeling from the loss of her mother, medical student Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) travels to a secluded beach for some much-needed solace. Despite the danger of surfing alone, Nancy decides to soak up the sun and hit the waves. Suddenly, a great white shark attacks, forcing her to swim to a giant rock for safety. Left injured and stranded 200 yards from shore, the frightened young woman must fight for her life as the deadly predator circles her in its feeding ground.

I have issues with snakes. Despite being petrified of sharks, the snakes stricken me. So neither.
See, I feel like desert is a stupid choice, because death by dehydration is horrific, but at the same time the slightest thought of being trapped at sea makes me want to curl up and die so I guess I'll pick desert.

You can actually get water in the desert if you have a bag, a stone and a cup.... However that relentless heat in the day.... Youd probably burn and dehydrate in the desert... Reckon youve more chance of survival at sea being found.... But if it was till death id probs go for sea cos in a dinghy youd get rocked to sleep and hopefully die in your sleep.... Desesrt would be a painful blistering death....
One of a few times I didn't mind an absence of practical creature effects. The effects team really captured all the nuances and details that went into shark movement and behavior (even when they took liberties).

Yuuri Katsuki 20-24 feet. If the girl is an average height of 5'8" in America. That makes her half the length of the distance between the sharks dorsal & tail fins. Same length as Bruce from jaws. How ever Bruce's head is twice the size of this shark. If Bruce were proportionately correct. Bruce from jaws would be a megalodon. Bruce's head is far to wide for a 25 foot shark.

The original commenter is referring to how perfect the CG great white model is in The Shallows in comparison to other times filmmakers tried to convey a realistic looking shark through CGI.

The shark was really well animated, the only wrong thing was they gave the shark a roar when he opened his mouth

Parts of it were quite far fetched, but I enjoyed the film and watched it all. She acted well and held my attention throughout which isnt easy when you're pretty much the only person in the film.

This is the best looking artificial shark in history. It's kinda sad to think about the fact that there are only 3 other good looking sharks in movies/television: Bruce from Jaws (far from realistic, but better than most others), the animatronic Makos from Deep Blue Sea (can't say the same for the CGI versions) and the Megalodon from Sea Monsters: A Walking with Dinosaurs Trilogy.

i watched Deep Blue Sea when I was a kid, 8 years old, I thought it be an action movie, bit horror-ish, nothing special. i have never been so wrong. The death of Samuel L. Jackson scared the shit out of me.

Remember the whale carcass she happened upon in the beginning? That's why. She inadvertently intruded on the shark's feeding grounds. The shark saw her as a possible threat to territory.

The movie is trying to portray the Great White as being territorially aggressive, in real life if there is a Whale Carcass in the Ocean, the largest White Sharks will feed first out of a group and will become defensive towards each other and towards human surfers or divers as well if they are in the area, they will establish their dominance and defend their food against anything they perceive as a threat.
Spring Hearted Tiger 62 you are absolutely right they don’t have a taste for us, they actually really don’t like the taste of us considering we are very different from their usual diet of Seals and Fish. Sharks actually can’t properly digest most parts of our bodies as we are usually pretty lean and have hundreds of thick bones, they usually end up regurgitating us back up.

Blake Lively can act very well, it's in her genes while she was exposed to it via close proximity to her father at a young age. She would make an ideal Boudica in a big budget epic remake of the life & times of that rebellious & inspirational Celtic Princess from 2000 years ago (the female Braveheart!). Blake has that Celtic look to her. Perfect!

I thought it was good. The last 15 minutes are totally kickass and really awesome. Its good as a movie on its good but great in terms of shark movies. Its the second best shark movie (next to Jaws of course). But seeing how Jaws will probably never be beaten, that is a high placement
