- In our homage to the legendary Michael Caine film, the Italian job, in which Mini Coopers are chased by Italian Alfa ROmeo Police Cars, we look back at a classic head to head. Goodwood Revival 2015 sees a great battle between a Mini and Alfa during the St Mary’s Trophy - Mini battles to over take the Alfa, fails, keeps trying, then finally over takes… Just when you think it’s all winning, the Alfa takes over leaving the Mini to stay behind once again

Wandering around a light industrial area in Japan, I came across a garage that had the same model, race-speced in green. Gorgeous car.

I love the coverage put on the net for the Goodwood meetings. Camera work and commentary captures the racing perfectly. The cars are beautiful and the racing is fantastic.
How I wish this type of racing is back on tele. Simple cars with awesome drivers driving neck to neck in pursuit of victory....

That Mini looks like it's either super fun or super scary to drive it that fast. Not sure which one yet.

I've never driven a more fun car than my 1980 mini special. 18 yrs old and I felt like Sterling Moss. No braking on tight corners just mash the go pedal and hang on. Miss the good old days

Minis are amazing on tight circuits, but always lose out on the straight bits; as some wag said "If God had intended Minis to go fast, he would have given them bigger wheels!"
Maybe why in 1966 at Bathurst which is a power circuit Mini Coopers took the top 9 places beating much larger cars.

Dancing it was, and dancing they were, and in the end the Alfa was leading and the Mini was following.
Mini don't have origin motor, many put Metro head motor... I have 60th racing books results, bever Mini was able to fight against GTA, they runs in end with other 1300 cars

Seeing this makes me wonder, I presume that's a Giulia Sprint Junior, the 1300cc version, is the 1959-1966 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS (same Twin Cam 1300cc Inline-4) then eligible for this event, and if it's a 1600cc Giulia Sprint, is the Giulia SS then eligible?

I had a Cooper S back in 1975 and drove it "somewhat" like that on public roads. Yes I was a FW and we all survived... yes I believe in angels. Nothing has given me the same rush since.

Correct me if i'm wrong>the mini must have rear bump-stops to induce some oversteer.
Nope. Because of their extremely short wheelbase, when you back off the throttle or dab the brakes, weight transfer unloads the rear and lets it slide (from being too light, rather than overpowering the tyres as a RWD car would have to do.) It's something you won't find on most modern FWD cars, as their wheelbases are generally too long and so the rear tyres retain too much of the car's weight. This was also a characteristic of the Alfasud, which was also FWD with a very short wheelbase.
Also the Mini is itself a very light car in the back

G t a gran turismo alleggerito questa ela spiegazione della sigla in italiano molte parti della macchina erano in alluminio motore motore classico alfa con la particolarità di avere le quattro camice unite fuse assieme anziché libere circa cento sessanta cavalli di potenza trazione posteriore differenziale autobloccante cazzo io ne ho buttato via uno che peccato grande macchina e anche bella
