Coming in from 2024 here. My parents bought me a $60 projector for Christmas last year and a $40 screen that we have to tie up to trees when we’re camping with a $10 50ft paracord I got from walmart that I cut into 4 pieces. String it up on the 4 corners and stretch the screen. Very much a better than nothing, $100 down the drain if it sucks type of scenario. Well it turns out that this thing is amazing. I could not believe how good the picture was. This is coming from someone who has 3 high end 60”+ TVs in my house. Absolutely agree that unless it’s dark you can’t see anything, but once the sun goes down the picture quality on even the crappiest outdoor projectors will really surprise you.
For the sound we plug in a bluetooth speaker through the audio output and it does the job perfectly. Like you said, you’re outside and don’t need surround sound or any craziness.

Always love your videos. I have mostly horror movies. Being a Halloween fan, using a projector like this on Halloween night for special effects on a garage door with decorations would be perfect. Would be cool for Christmas too.

I have a very similar screen (elite screens yard master 2) with the dual canvas (meaning you can use it for rear projection). You will need more space, but it has two major advantages for me. 1. The projector is further from you and so the fans are less noisy, especially with a bluetooth speaker close to the screen. All the electronics are behind the screen and out of the way and out of sight. 2. Children are often running around in front of the screen and they will not only not create shadows on the screen (the other children watching will get less annoyed) the cant run into cables, the projector itself, etc.
The disadvantage with a rear projection screen is a slightly less bright picture, but after it gets dark it will not matter.
I am using a ~400 $ acer short throw (not ultra short throw) projector.

The only problem with uaing the smaller 720p mini projectors is they are shorter throw. If your sat at the correct viewing distance a 720p quality image (4.5m) the projector needs to be somewhere in between you and the projector screen possibly blocking your view of the screen unless you have it on a tripod off to one side and use horizontal keystone correction. And yea i dont blame you for not wanting too use a $1-$3k projector outside what if it rained and it got wet.

what about a cheap 3D blu-ray 4K projector? About the only way to play 3D blu-ray now is with a projector unless you get a used 1080p TV with 3D. I never had a 3D TV and have a few 3D blu-ray's that I never used so I guess a 3D projector is the only option now.

This projector gets the job done pretty well. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.
