The singer is singing in a Senegalese language called Wolof about a person called Tapha Niang that has died. That's why there's two verses in Arabic from the Holy Quran (3:185 and 55:26). Nothing disrespectful towards Islam, it is common in our cultures in Western Africa to pay homage to the dead in songs.
if ANYONE is able to link an english translation i would seriously appreciate it with all my heart. this song is so damn beautiful i need to know whats being said the whole way through
I might be able to do that if I manage to find the lyrics, I'm pretty bad at picking them up from the music, but in general, it's an homage to a man named Tapha Niang who passed away, and the lyrics basically consist of phrases of grief, remembering him, and reflection over one's life after the passing of a loved one. The language is Wolof, the main language of Senegal.
The instrumental's gorgeous but the vocals really are an essential part of the song. An instrument in their own right, and absolutely breathtaking. Full of meaning even to someone like myself who doesn't follow the Quran or speak either language
@@johnywuijts917 The lyrics aren't "evil and dark". The beginning lyrics of the song were the opening verses of the Qu'ran, Islam's holy text. Having religious verses in a level about swinging on monkey tails was kind of out of place and some Islamic groups brought up that concern (while others thought it was no big deal: make no mistake).
