    Your plants looks amazing. Really love what I see. I'm on my third year and now is that my plants are working. I had a hard time because outside of flowers I didn't know how to garden but I'm getting better as time goes on. My mom comes every year to help me since I'm disable I can't plant every where but I still have lots of plants. Great video

    Beautiful gardening and it's easy to see how much better the straw bales from starter seed cups are doing in comparison to the in-ground seed planted. It's truly amazing.... the difference. Thank you for sharing all your videos and updates.

    Your bales are amazing. I've grown onions, carrots, watermelons, cantaloupe, peppers, tomatoes, beets, squash, as well as herbs in my two year old bales with great success. And adding lots of compost tea has been an added benefit.

    You are awesome! You are so real and down to earth. I can tell how much you love what you do. You do not leave me and others asking questions. I love growing my own. My Grandfathers both had substantial gardens and i so much enjoyed helping them with planting harvesting canning cooking and eating. My personal life has been a struggle growing. deer rabbits bugs or disease got my stuff every time. I live on the water just retired and am looking for a way to be successful. do not have much land but have a large pier. I think your video gave me some hope. My major enemy is wind. Hurricanes and North Easter winds. God bless you and I am looking forward to learning more from you.

    the bricks you are useing to shore up those bales can be used to plant in as well, i don't use invasives in those pockets but things like beets, carrots and spices work well without getting too tall to work over or around...i had good luck with just pure composted grass clippings.

    This is so amazing! How easy to plant our own food can it get!? I am for sure going to try this myself. Only question I would have would be will I have to treat my bales for powdery mold as I would my ground garden? Have had an issue with this going on 2 seasons.

    I started straw bales this summer. I definitely didn't do it right... all they are growing are black smelly mushrooms and mold, with a few selective plants that are 'surviving'. Somehow they are also growing grass, even though I bought straw! Hope next year will be a better run!

    • @RayMiller22
      @RayMiller22 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If youre getting mushrooms and mold youve done it right. I did three bales this year and mushrooms are still growing daily but my tomatos are doing wonderful.

    • @greatnationnow
      @greatnationnow 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray Miller
      what color are your mushrooms? Mine are the darkest looking evil mushrooms I've seen. Lots grow on the bales and it seems some plants may have even been killed off by them, or the fungus in the bales. Hard telling.. I need more experience with this. I wish I knew that I could have used hay... would have saved a ton of money. I'm getting grass even with straw, so straw didn't help.

    • @RayMiller22
      @RayMiller22 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ink caps is what have been common. Black tops that drip like tar. they die off quickly No harm to anything. Tomatoes peppers, basil etc were not effected by them . I have some grass coming up. Very east to pull. My biggest issue is slugs. I would go ahead and put some plants in a test them. Just check the temp first.

    Hi; could you do a video on growing turmeric and ginger. Thanks. Did you ever grow in a composting pile? Did you ever use worm tea from your worm bin? Is the fish juice better then worm tea? Also did you ever do hydroponics? How do you keep the green house warm in the winter?: Thanks; great video.

  • @jonb4763
    @jonb4763 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    As I've been watching your videos it occurred to me that the principles behind straw bale gardening is the same as the wood chip style of gardening. If someone wanted to start using wood chips to garden in they could lay down the wood chips and then put the straw bales on top. This way you could get growing right away and after bales have broken down the wood chips would be ready. Just a thought.

  • @MobyDave1583
    @MobyDave1583 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi I just found your channel and like what I see. I live in a big city in Canada where I have a few raised beds and a lot of tomatoes growing in buckets. And a lot of rabbits. I was wandering if rabbit manure would make a good fertilizer to get straw bales working. I think the straw is a great idea the price of a bale here is about the same price as a bucket but you can grow more in them.

    • @SurvivalHT
      @SurvivalHT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rabbit manure for ye conditioning process would work but would take a lot longer then you think straight nitrate. I would recommend using the nitrate to get it conditioned quickly then after that switching to strictly rabbit manure. You should get really healthy happy plants if you do that.

    • @MobyDave1583
      @MobyDave1583 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didd't think straight nitrate bought in bags would be organic. Thanks for replaying so quick. I watched a lot of your videos. Especially that 7 hole rabbit cage. It was being quite educational.

    Your garden needs a mulch covering. Like wood chips. Check out the Back to Eden gardening videos on TH-cam. Theres lots of people doing this now a days. We're doing this and getting real good results with tomatoes, etc.

      +mtnmanrab Mulch is great but I wouldn't use wood chips in a veggie garden, it is too acidic. It is fine for flower gardens though. I tried wood chips in my veggie garden one year and not even the tomatoes liked it. The only thing that didn't mind it was the raspberries.
