2:11 - 2:13 is my favorite part because it gives off the underlying sadness and unsettling joy of that period. No matter how brainwashed the people were, or bleak/devastating that period was (depending on the person), the video and song gives off a nostalgic vibe. Nostalgia doesn’t have to always be a good thing, rather a thing that people feel to reflect.
This scene is around the time the CCP liberated China from the Kuomintang (who fled to Taiwan). Definitely not brainwashed, but imagine the horror of having an ongoing civil war and the Japanese invading on top of it. It's a long period of suffering.
