It depends how the razor is designed. Just because a razor has an open comb, that doesn't magically make him more efficient or aggressive than a closed comb razor. There are plenty of mild open comb razors and plenty of very efficient and aggressive closed comb razors as well as everything else in between.

You're absolutely right; razor design plays a significant role. While it's subjective, generally, open comb razors tend to allow more blade exposure, which can result in a more aggressive shave. Closed comb razors, on the other hand, typically provide a smoother and milder shave due to less blade exposure. However, as you rightly pointed out, there are exceptions to these generalizations, and individual preferences also play a crucial role in determining the shaving experience.

Yes it depends but with the same blade exposure and blade gap oc will always be more efficient.

@@БојанПавловић-е3й that's still debatable and it really depends on how the comb itself is made, because a comb by itself can't make magically a razor more aggressive.

@@Foxtrot-jr5qu But we talkin about same razor, same geometry, same gap, rite? With all the things being equal i still think oc will be more efficient

@@БојанПавловић-е3йI really don't see how having a comb instead of a straight bar alone is going to increase the efficiency and for me that's just one of the many shaving myths that a lot of people believe in. But hey, I'm not trying to change your mind, so whatever works for you.

I've been using R41 open comb as a daily razor and it's both most efficient and causes the least irritation. Can't go back to closed comb.

What’s best for shaving head? Minimal razor bump?

    • @tatara.razors

I am not a head shaver, so it's harder for me to answer this question. However, a mild safety razor with a long handle and an optional pivoting head can be helpful for head shaving.

I can do it easily with a straight razor, but I prefer using Harry’s razor with 5 blades and cremo creme. Been shaving my head since 2008 without issues.

Tatara gave me a case of "Razor Acquisition Disorder", I own the Masumune, the Nodachi, and the Murasama - though one of those was a gift to my son so he can shave properly when he's ready.
In addtion, I got all of the optional caps and combes... Yeah they gave me RAD in a bad way.
Only two products that I wouldn't endorse whole heartedly: the blades - they're good, but I tend to wait longer than I should to change them, and have had some rust I can't get off the cap of my Marasama - Feather's anti corrosion coating seems to make this a none issue for their standard DE Blades. The other product is the shave soap, I use Chiseled Face, and had a hard time lathering with Tatara's soap.
Prior to then, I just owned a Feather ASDE and Wooden Handled Feather Artist Club Shavette... So be careful, purchase one of their blades and the next thing you know the entire product catelogue will show up on your door step and your bank account will be empty...
