It is so sad that people would make such negative comments about anyone. Why can't we all be nice, civil and be proud that we filipinos have such talented people? Seriously? Just BE PROUD and help our countrymen.
this is definitely not a disaster. the audience gave her a standing ovation and you even watched her. this means that people and kinndasorta critics like you are drawn to her powerful performance.
You are the first real opera buff who has had anything good to say about Jackie Evancho. Thank you so much for your compliments to her. :) Jackie has said she wants to stay in classical Crossover, but you know how a kid's mind can change. She had a taste of real opera when she sang with Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo in St. Petersburg Russia last year(Russian press called her 'The Divine Child'). One day she may look back on that experience and decide to go into opera. She'll be a great opera singer
You are welcome. I think actually there are quite a few opera buffs appreciate her talent. I'd imagine even some of those who express concern over her future vocal health still recognize her talent, her musicality and her beautiful voice. As I am neither a singer nor a voice teacher, I don't know enough to discuss vocal health. I did see the concert in St Petersburg (someone posted it here). I do think she can change her mind about opera, I hope she does, she has a rare talent.
Let's make it clear Lani is not an opera singer just pure talent she is able to crossover to pop like Sara Brightman though her mother is coloratura soprano and father is a classical tenor. It runs through their blood.
Jackie performed in the One Drop show Saturday night. You can watch her sing Bridge Over Troubled Waters and the closing Cirque Anthem by going to the One Drop website and donating at least $5 to their cause. They will send you a password so you and a friend can watch from tomorrow to April 1. One viewing only however. If you are a member of her website we will be in her chatroom tomorrow night at 8PM EST for collective viewing. Oh and I forgot Katherine Jenkins. She also sang Nessun Dorma.
She's really great. Being the daughter of 2 operatic singers. FYI her mother is a coloratura soprano and his father is a operatic tenor. No wonder that their whole family sings well. And to know that she also married a person who can also sing. Who is also a member of a choir. I'm wondering how ther daughters sing. :)
Lani Misalucha was born into a musical family.[12] Her father Benjamin de Guzman Bayot had been an operatic tenor, her mother Esperanza Salvador Dimalanta was a coloratura soprano, sister May is a band vocalist, sister Karlyn is an actress (Munting Paraiso) who also plays violin and flute, while brothers Novi and Osi play guitar and piano. She was tutored in classical vocals by her parents.
Well, I said opera singers who aren't tenor aren't going to sing it, but classical crossover singers and movie stars certainly do. Deanna whom I adore did it as part of a movie magic, and she sang it in English and with different words making it a different song in a sense. I prefer Sarah Brightman when she does crossover/musical theater than arias. Jackie is super-talented, I really am in awe of this girl's talent, but in this I'd like to hear a man's passion. It's just me, really.
Your opinion is ignorant because you've never heard live opera and you don't know how beautiful the live unamplified sound is, the sound that not just has a lot more colors than the amplified sound, but also the sound that comes to you directly from the singers' mouths and not the speakers. In live opera when you have multiple characters on stage, you know exactly who is singing. I mightn't have been around for 600 years, but I've been around enough to have heard Pavarotti live in opera.
did you read what i wrote? i said "on certain performances" nevertheless they still use microphones whether it be outdoors or indoors even if they stand 10 f****ing feet away ok? that's why i said its alright but not necessary. she may not be an opera singer but she sang it and she's good at it so suck on that.
Oh, and as to 3 tenors, sure when they performed in outdoors stadiums they had to use mics, the orchestra itself is amplified outdoors. But there are plenty of videos of them in classical music venues and in operas when they sing without it. Like here for example: /watch?v=G9AGHKbXT0A Oh and here's today's opera singer - do you see mics: /watch?v=Q3kzqzXHp2A
she doesn't need too. and if she did. may be she would be a soloist. haha. also she originally didn't planned to be a singer. hehe. she studied in PCU :) i
@sxybachottie why wouldn't she?? its not impossible when she considers it an option. perhaps people should try to answer questions not ask questions back. i had that query for some reason i thought that she might have auditioned for that group. classical pareho
True (though I don't care to listen for her Nessun Dorma). She is gorgeous, being a woman I am a bit immune. Emotional connection is very important to me.
If you are interested, three tenors in opera: clips from Pavarotti performances: /watch?v=0IAIXXIBEWA A movie version of an opera with Domingo (really good introduction to opera, if you've not been to one, has some cuts but a great movie and with English subtitles): /watch?v=biiGQdm-klA, clips from his live performances: /watch?v=J9ptRndvo80 Carreras (in full opera, link to 1st clip, no subtitles unfortunately, you'll need to read the plot on the web): /watch?v=RRjHFSKtIs8
guys, guys, the use of the mic is alright. where can you see, in any television talent show, someone singing an opera without the use of a mic? even great arias use microphones on certain performances. big deal...
The issue isn't the type of music, it's how she sings it. Listen to how a real operatic tenor sings this e.g. Corelli or even some today's singer like Ben Heppner. Unless you mean popera....
Yes I know the story of ND. That is irrelevant when the aria is sung in a non-operatic setting such as a concert or an non-operatic album. I, as someone who is not an opera fan, love to hear Sarah and Jackie sing ND. It's a great song with a great melody.
It's funny how people like you want to argue about subjects they know nothing about with people who know a lot about that same subject. When was the last time you've been to opera? What is your favorite opera? Of course mics are used for recording, but in live opera performances Callas has never used microphones, the audience always heard her unamplified voice. Opera is 600 years old, do you think they used mics then?
for your information genius i've just see a video of catherine jenkins using microphone indoors and she's not standing three feet away. and lots more opera singers including the 3 tenors do the same. i just wonder, how did maria callas recorded her song???? by not using microphone i guess cos she's an opera singer. huh bulls**t!!!
@dgsdvdlsrph Obviously your not getting something. If you didn't know she has gotten work done on her face. She's an amazing vocalist no doubt. I remember singing this song back my senior year in university.. didn't really make facials such as her. Showchoir even helped with my facials, so did acting. Her vibrato had nothing to do with her facials.
It seems that most comments here are about Lani's use of vibrato. Why, cant' she do it her own way? In fact, hers sounds better that everyone else's version.
Tell that to the opera snobs on the Slipped Disc blog who still to this day insist that Jackie says she is an opera singer. She has the great fortune to possess one of the most beautiful Classical voices on the planet but she has NEVER said she was an opera singer. Other people have said that, though not many now do, but Jackie has never said that. Jenkins says she wants to be an opera singer but she won't retrain her voice to make that happen.
I stand corrected; I had never heard of her so I didn't know she wasn't an opera singer. Better for the genre she isn't. As for Nessun Dorma being a male aria only...Deanna Durbin, Sarah Brightman and Jackie Evancho beg to differ!! :D Granted, none of them are opera singers but at the same time they weren't scared to tackle Pavarotti's theme song. :)
If you know little about opera why do you argue about it? I don't argue about subjects I don't know. How do you know you like or dislike opera since you've never been to opera? Have never even heard a single full opera? You don't even know what it is. OK, here, this is a full opera, it's not the same as live performance, but at least it'll give you a clue what opera is: m/watch?v=uVPoWBa01Ac
wasnt invented then that's why they made the music halls the way they are to amplify the sound. but if mics were available then, wouldn't they use it? of course they will like they use it now. like i said, IN MY OPINION, IT'S OK TO USE MIC. and that's that. you even agreed that in certain performances they do use mic. the only reason why they dont use it is because it wasnt available to use ok? so dont tell me about your bullsh**t coz you werent around for 600 yrs to know all things about opera.
Are the words ever irrelevant? Doesn't every song tell a story, at least songs that have words? Even forgetting opera, when we listen to a pop singer singing a pop sing do we want them to communicate with us, to tell us a story with their songs? When we listen to something like "And I am telling you", "The Impossible Dream" or "I dream a dream" do we not want to hear the singer express? Would we like a man singing "And I am telling you" ? It seems to me that there is double standard here.
although i have huge respect to her vocal power. it's very apparent that when she sings aria or opera songs like this it's not the best for her face, she's proven that can sing these opera songs, however i would have loved to see lani in the song, do it her way that her face won't suffer being distorted while hitting those high notes, case in point MISS ARETHA FRANKLIN, she sang it her way, she didnt mind if the song is opera she made it her own, she made it soulful just the way her genre is.

Thank you for information. I'll check it. I am afraid I don't care about Katherine Jenkins. She is ok I guess when she sings something like Nella Fantasia, but I can't stand her when she try arias. Her vibrato really annoys me among other things.
Considering that she isn't an opera singer, it's a bit strange that she can remind you why you don't like opera. She is a pop singer who attempts to simulate operatic sound and sings an aria that no female opera singer would touch.
I did read what you wrote, it showed you know absolutely nothing about opera. Opera singers don't use microphone when they perform in opera theaters.Outdoors is another matter because just the street noise would interfere. She doesn't have voice for opera, and she just hits the notes with no legato, bad phrasing and no expression.
Look, please learn something about opera. She isn't an opera singer, the contestants who sing arias on tv talent shows are not opera singers, so they are bad examples. As to the mic, sure when singing outdoors/where acoustics is bad, an opera singer may use it, but then they often stand about 3-5 feet away or they'll blow it. Learn what opera is.
Silly remarks about her face! Ever read the lyrics to the song? Fiercely passionate- we just hear it from old men who sing it in their sleep. Not good with hormone crazed passions, old men. So she's an artist who brings the right madness to it and the best you have is drag queen? The lighting is awful to boot, but the day you can sing like that you can criticize.
WOW this was the scarest performance of Nessun Dorma I've ever seen. She looks very Drag Queenish and needs to reThink about doing Opera!!! .. I didn't get half way on the video and I stopped it! Terrible performance.
So not good to the ears... This is the type of music that I wish did not exist. She os great though. So much vowing at the end. Looks like she is having a great time being applauded. Lols
Sorry, I didn't like it. It showcased the technical aspects of her voice, which happens to be perfect. But the way she presented herself in this performance... uhm no.
i saw her in vegas singing this song. the crowd had tears & of course she received standing ovation.
Nearly knocked me out of my chair with the power of her voice in this very nice performance!
Voice, expression, everything, Lani has it. She's the best singer in the Philippines.
If I could just click multiple "likes." Bravo, diva Lani!
what a good soprano I really like her voice texture and color
for me she's the best singer in the world. (in my opinion only)
Oh I love you Lani! I’m your number one fan. Nothing compares to you. ❤
It is so sad that people would make such negative comments about anyone.
Why can't we all be nice, civil and be proud that we filipinos have such talented people? Seriously?
Just BE PROUD and help our countrymen.
Probably the best performance of this piece. Ever.
Feel great for Lani to have sung this song. She's the first Filipino woman to have sung this classic song publicly before international audience.
this is definitely not a disaster. the audience gave her a standing ovation and you even watched her. this means that people and kinndasorta critics like you are drawn to her powerful performance.

WOW!!! I thought only Sarah Brightman did this male aria justice, but damn!
She should perform in Vegas again
Swagger loved it Lani
pop, classical... and nagra-rap din si Lani. watch her "Sirena" concert version
And her latest video of Barbara's Streisand's version of Jingle Bells. The tempo Lani sang was way faster than Barbara in my opinion.
Trying to reach those high notes made her look like a Drag Queen! But I love even more! Hehehe... :-)
bravo miss lani misalucha

Siti can't even hit any note that Lani hits here. Siti sucks, she's mediocre. Have her sing side by side with Lani, let's see what happens lol!
So not good to the ears... This is the type of music that I wish did not exist. She os great though. So much vowing at the end. Looks like she is having a great time being applauded. Lols
then you sing Nessun Dorma, i want to hear the correct way
I cut the sound after three seconds. She reminds me of why I don't like opera. Sounds like a cat yowling on a fence.
Sorry, I didn't like it. It showcased the technical aspects of her voice, which happens to be perfect. But the way she presented herself in this performance... uhm no.
Then I'm sorry if you have problems with your taste
