I contacted Free the Tone and they say it runs at 17 volts internally which is why the dynamics aren't affected when the pedal is on like most eq pedals. They don't mention it on their product info, I don't know why. I told them they should.
It doesn't seem to change the tone as much as more 'traditional' EQs (with sliders/knobs per frequency)? It's weird ... You said it's 12dB of boost/cut, per frequency? Ie the boost/cut numbers are 1:1 re dBs ... How does that compare with those more 'traditional' EQs ... maybe it's not as much as those, and that's what I'm hearing?? :P
One thing is he was running it it a gain pedal which by definition will reduce the impact of the eq. Put the eq in the loop and or at the end of the effects chain and it will be much more dramatic. 12dB is pretty standard for most eq pedals. The eq knobs on a boss metal zone are probably +/- 30-50dB to get the level of sweep they have into all that gain

There is some EQ doing some good 2 your tone N there is some EQ ruining your tone ^^
