@@sandbox_adventures I'm about to do the same but with a different jk bumper. Thanks for sharing this info and I think it's awesome you include Preston in the work. Please tell him he has a fan and I'm looking forward to more videos with him
My big fingers did it AGAIN. ...my right elbow lost 80% mobility so it sometimes required me to stand with my back to the machine to reach the bolts adequately, mechanizing since 8 bears old and still at it at 75. Mechanics keep the world moving! Enjoyed the videos as I'm another Jeep nut.
This video is pure gold man. Nice winch too... I almost put it in my Tacoma, but the control box was too big for where I wanted to mount it so I went with a Warn instead.
Thanks! We're having loads of fun working on the jeep and making the videos. Yeah, the Badlands definitely a big boy and overkill for our Jeep but the price was right. Preston actually wanted to relocate the control box in order to slide the bumper a little farther back. Can't go wrong w/ a Warn.
@@sandbox_adventures been looking for an XJ myself, had one and let it go many years ago, regretted it ever since. I wasn't aware the XJ had a JK conversion for the bumper. Appreciate it, enjoy time with Preston. Time goes by so fast. Good times stay safe
Try a propane torch using a bottle of MAPP gas (burns hotter) to make the head of the bolt red hot, then spray it with water from a squirt bottle till it is warm to the touch. Something about the high heat and the quick cooling powders the rust. Be sure to hit it with your penetrating oil while it is warm. My boss at the motorcycle shop in the early 70s did this to a broken bolt on his Corvair van exhaust manifold and afterless than a full turn it was not even finger tight. Keep up the work with your son, my wife drives a power chair also, but you are getting much more help from him than I from my wife. After twice being broken and three surgery's
A torch is definitely on our to buy list. Preston is quite the helper for sure. He's about outgrown his current wheelchair and we're looking to upgrade to a new wheelchair that can lift up the seat so he'll hopefully be able to see into the engine bay instead of looking at our camera. He's pretty excited about that.
My wife ….. you been working on your jeep for 5 hours! Me… I can’t get this one bolt off that’s stopping me from starting the job. Wife… wait you haven’t started yet ?? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂got to love old vehicles
@@sandbox_adventures Oh ok that jeep is great it is capable of anything so if you take it out on the trails they are layers of everything but as always if you are stuck use the winch. Well that's all, greetings I liked your video! !.
Wow I didn't know there were JK to XJ bumper adaptors. Just came across your channel and subbed. Looks like great adventures and memories are in you and Preston's future!
It's the Badland Apex 12000lbs winch with synthetic rope from Harbor Freight. Normally runs about $630, but sometimes you can get it a lot cheaper when HF has their holiday promotional sales. Preston and I have a video installing it if you want to see what you'd be getting into: th-cam.com/video/rZU_dghb4Uk/w-d-xo.html
Good call on the color Preston.
Yep, he was quite adamant about it too. Glad I listened lol
You are such a great dad. I love that you and Preston do this together. Now let’s see if it works in the next video. 😀

Awesome video, I found your post on a forum.
Thanks! Preston and I both really like the bumper. It's a keeper.

Good job guys! I love the jeep!
Thanks!
I like how it turned out and I want to see it in action :).
Thanks! We're itching to test it out on the trails too. As a proof of concept though and not b/c we got stuck

Thanks! We we're pretty excited when we found the XJ adaptors too b/c we were having trouble finding an XJ bumper we liked.
looks great!
Thanks!
Where did you get the adapter from
We purchased both the bumper and the adapter bracket from Barnes 4WD.
What winch is that and how much?,
