My Thanksgiving was a month ago (in Canada) but just a couple of thoughts. When my adult kids were still at home I discovered smoked turkeys and for several years I got half a smoked turkey. (They don't need to be thawed and cooked, just heated, and taste amazing!) Nowadays, as an empty-nester, I tend to buy either a smoked turkey leg or wings and heat them in the crockpot with potatoes and baby carrots. It makes a delicious soup at the same time that you can serve separately and I love to make hot turkey sandwiches. Use your fave bread, lightly toasted, with mayo and cranberry sauce (I'm #teamjelliedcranberrysauce) and chunks of the hot, smoked turkey! Mmmm!! And, speaking of jellied cranberry sauce, one of my fave desserts/sweet side dishes is a sort of apple crumble with a rolled oat base, layers of sliced apples and jellied cranberry sauce, topped with a brown sugar and rolled oat streusel, that can be served hot or cold. Bake it in a square pan and cut into 12-16 pieces. Either of these is easy enough for a first-timer (though I agree with Nikki that it's usually best not to try new recipes when you have company coming). But, if this is your first time hosting, it's hard not to have at least a couple of new dishes.
My cousin/big sis always has the most special centerpieces. Creative and crafty, she knows how to create a Wow effect without breaking the bank. I am always so impressed and was thinking about my favorite years as you were talking. 😊 So Thankful for her and her labor of love for our family!
I figure that if you’ve been doing this for years (and always with a creative eye), your good impression from this book is quite telling! I’ll have to look into it
Nikki I just love your videos! I’ve been following your channel for over a year now and I always feel so inspired by your videos and so encouraged. Thank you for continuing to shine your light and share your heart online! 💛
Thanks for sharing your book! I will definitely try to check it out. Wishing you and your family a beautiful and yummy Thanksgiving! Eileen, Silicon Valley Mom
The book sounds like an awesome resource! I look forward to hosting again!, and love a good game! So, that's a must when I'm hosting. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Nikki - great tips. Thanks. I am trying to find a video you made about setting a fall table that I loved! (Was it last year?) Your color scheme had a gold mustard type napkin color and these really neat clear glass cider cups…. I tried to imitate your table - because it was so beautiful. But this year I can’t find it. Was it you tube? Or maybe Amazon? Much love and joy to you this season of gratitude.
I’ve been hosting thanksgiving dinner for 30+ years. Thank you for giving me some fresh ideas/perspective and to do something new. Happy Thanksgiving!
I LOVE the family walk idea! What a great idea. Otherwise, it might be a post nap. 😂
