      A mf 135 should start instantly they don't need heater plugs only reason it needs easy start is it must be worn out an engine rebuild would aort that no such thing as a price of metal getting addicted to anything ie easy start that's all bollocks I'm afraid it needs it because it's knackered and won't get better until rebuilt hence needs easy start

    I just bought a B-275 here in British Columbia, Canada. The pre-start heat resistor needs changing and I believe there is a better fix for the actual glow-plugs from Bosch. The connection is not in series, so if one fails, the other 3 will still work. I ordered them this week, so will do a video and post when I do the install. Thanks!!

    Nice job Tom every day is a school day!
    Avoid the deadly easy start on any diesel as it has a horrible habit of shattering/cracking the piston rings over time which lowers the compression and makes starting without the easy start extremely difficult on an engine that's been started too much with it!
    Best top tip to aid starting if it's cold or unwilling to go a rag soaked in something flammable lit and held over the intake manifold (remove filter/oil bath filter first ) as you crank it takes the warm air into the cylinder and helps combustion start
    Saying that I have started several troublesome diesels in the cold with the application of wd40 top which is probably not recommended either!
    Well done for the repair keep exploring new mechanical horizons you can be the UK version of ChuckE2009!! ☺

    Is this a precursor to the use of a glow plug relay? Can anyone answer its quite fascinating that its not actually putting the heat into the motor. Why is this not fitted into the air intake? Replies very much appreciated and very best regards.

    Well done Mr mechanic Tom. Now.....easy start, and why I hate it. Many many years ago I saw an engine that had tried to be started with it......BOOM is the word. Engine had literally blown up. Broke the crank, bend conrod, forced piston crown onto the conrod (I kid you not). But worst of all it had actually torn the block apart on the main bearing at the back end. The only engine I've seen with worse destruction is a dragster engine that has literally blown the heads off.

    Keep her off the ether, it's combusts and produces much higher compression and those little inters have got a thin water jacket which will crack with the following extra pressure

    Not all o these pepperpot are the same amperage resistance so it's possible that u may have been using the wrong one, and watching ur video that is heating up in less than half the time o the B 275s we use for vintage ploughin 🤔 ours take about 20 to 25 seconds to heat up 👍💪💪

    • @TomPembertonFarmLife
      @TomPembertonFarmLife 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert Paterson Ours have always heated up pretty quickly

  • @rronmar
    @rronmar 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    They get “addicted” because you wind up filling the entire intake path with ether, which can easily take the stone cold engine past governed speed before there is any oil splashed around… i always thought those “resistors” out in the dash were a silly idea. Should have put it in the intake to spend that energy in heating the engine to help the start. An amp gauge would be far more useful to tell you what the glow-plugs are doing, and what the alternator is doing after it is running…
