Back in the day you could routinely hear songs this good on the radio.
    It was called the 1970s.

Remember the first time I heard this in 1970; I was 15 and the world was mine. The best music is from the 60's and early 70's and this is one fine example.

It was wonderful in many ways, and a nightmare for many of us living in small town with an abuse father.
Life was a living dichotomy that affected me all my life. Fantastic music and outdoor adventures for sure though

1970 to 1972 was good as was 1978 to 1979 (with the beginning of punk and New Wave), but the middle of the decade was mostly terrible.

Bro': The proto-rapping. The living, lively, lush multiculturalism. This White Brit boy and the Black-and-Tan San Jose low-ride band putting Eminem to a Santana spliff before Detroit Dude ever took his first baby stroll in a trailer park. Feel it, feel this for wot (what) y'it (it) truly iz (is):
THIS...this is farkin', phucken, fabulously DECADES AHEAD OF ITS TIME. It ain't just a masterpiece, which it surely is. It's PROPHECY.

I was 6 that summer so I don't remember it. Of course at that age I only heard the music my parents put on. The only rock song I remember from that summer was, The Pipkins ~ 'Gimme Dat Ding'.
We spent that summer by the sea in Maine. During the drive back, this song, 'Gimme Dat Ding' by The Pipkins came on the radio. My mom was appalled at the lyrics, thinking they encouraged impoliteness.
She imagined some long haired hippie screaming this song loudly into the microphone, encouraging children everywhere toward impoliteness. She talked about it for years, but that was the only time I ever heard the song until I found it on youtube.
Of course, at age 6, Saturday morning cartoons made a bigger impression on me than anything.

When I was 5 years old (in 1978) I inherited the 45 rpm records of my parents and aunts and uncles when I got my first record player. This song was amongst one of the records I would end up playing over and over again...because I loved it. At 5 years old. I had no idea what Eric Burdon was singing about, but it was a fun song to listen to. And it still is, now that I'm 44 years old.

What a wonderful dreamy happy mesmerizing song this is ! Since the day it first aired it always made me feel better amidst the misery of those days that always seemed to creep in. Amidst the turmoil of economic changes, war, death, drugs, paranoia, politically motivated police violence, Race murders, assassinations, class war, political strife, it was a few minutes of guaranteed stress relief. Just plain good music. All there is to it. Poetry, mystery, eroticism, dreaming, nature, adventure ? It's got all that. We should all be grateful that talented people record their thoughts and emotions so the rest of us don't go nuts. After 50 years it still gets the job done.

They did it with a few extra lyrics where he says something like : wait a minute, I know I was dreaming, I was in the grass".

"An oval-faired, long-haired, leaping gnome".... Classic. Great tune, a definite standout in the psychedelic zeitgeist of the time. Can't hear it without thinking Boogie Nights.

My memory of this song is from second grade. I went boating with a friend of mine and his dad. This song was playing on the radio and he thought it was saying "tic tac girl". Idk why but that was a really fun day and this song reminds me of that day. Haha

This is one hellava song that I've always loved during my life hearing it on the radio from a. Classic rock radio station. Sadly that I would hear it on the radio anymore. I miss hearing real classic rock from the 60s & up to the 80s.

12/30/2020 @Zeus & Athena - The song is Santana-ish, as it has a Latin vibe, yet is rock 'n roll, which for the most part, is exactly what Carlos Santana did. That combination, I.M.O., gave him a much wider audience base.

Fresh Prince of Belair brought me here. It's an addictive song that stays in yr head. That, added with the vision of Uncle Phil dancing like he was on Soul Train.
